What the hell? How did that get there?
Thanks! I have been* screwing with Rufus but his dash is hard to get used to, I find it jarring coming from Dan.
True about SSF4. Don’t want to spend too much time on a character that might see some significant changes come next year.
Hello, uploaded a vid of me playing on youtube just now.
please give me criticisms.
one thing i can think of instantly is that i didn’t really apply any pressure and pretty much let him dictate the pace of the match.

First-off, a couple of matchup-specific tips for Abel. In the first round, after blocking a full Change of Direction, you let a prime punishment time go by and inexplicably jumped instead. Abel is very vulnerable after a blocked Change of Direction, and you can get at least a c.HP > heavy Danku on him every time. In fact, you don’t even have to wait that long. If Abel uses the first hit of Change of Direction on you, you block it, and he doesn’t EX Cancel, you can get a reversal Koryuken or Super Combo on him every time. The move is very unsafe outside of combos. The second thing, though it worked for you in this match, is to be careful of doing Dankus > throws against Abel. If he does a Tornado Throw after blocking your Danku, it’ll ignore your throw attempt and hammer you for heavy damage. This particular Abel wasn’t doing that, but most will. I’m actually fond of vertical jumps after a blocked heavy Danku against Abel, as if he tries a Tornado Throw you can punish him on the way down, and if he just tries a normal throw you can resume the pressure with a Danku blockstring.
As you said yourself, you need to try to dictate the pace more. Abel lacks defensive options, so you should be pressuring him with either crossups or the Knee after each knockdown. Mix those in with the occasional throw against his wakeup (to discourage rolling escapes, as throws beat the roll). You don’t need to fear his Ultra at all in those situations. Abel’s Ultra will whiff against any Danku except possibly the EX. He even goes under heavy Dankus when he does it. This is a matchup where you get to control the pace after a knockdown.
You made good use of the MK Danku > Koryuken ‘crossup’ after a knockdown, I’ve just never personally been a fan of that. Compared to Dan’s other options, it just seems so unsafe to me. I can’t complain too much about it since it worked every time for me.
Maybe an extra taunt or two here and there would be good.
Good work repping the Saikyo Arts!

Don’t Koryuken on Abel’s wakeup, that was the worst thing you could do. It’s mega unsafe and opens you up for a punish combo. The only time I do it is when I’m going for a chip win and need to out prioritize someone, even then it’s very character specific. You can Dan Knee him to get the wakeup you want, as he can only punish with Ultra, block or escape with EX Roll, I think, but then you can mixup with throws.
Another great way to surprise Abel after Danku pressure is to cross him up, he can’t do much offensively against it, and a x-up.MK can combo into st.MP > Any Gadouken (EX is easier) > Level 2 FAC into FP > HK Danku or whatever you like.
Also, you should end every close MP with Dankus, LK if you wanna be safe, HK if you want to be risky, and MK if you want to throw off their timing. If your MP is blocked, a follow-up Koryuken is going to be blocked as well, and you’ll just get punished. You’re best off using LK Danku, since it’s safe on block.
Also, after you blocked his Change of Direction in the first round, you jumped. You should have brought out a cr.FP > HK Danku. If I’m reading the frame data right, you got 35 frames to punish that final blow on block.

:nunchuck:
EDIT: Mao’s right about the cross-up MK Danku to Koryuken, though. People just seem to need to make a throw attempt after you try that. -_-;
I don’t play enough against Abel to have much to tell you, maybe more pressure would have made for a quicker victory or maybe allowed him to command grab you a few times, he seemed dead set on walking up to you or rolling at you, usually getting thrown himself or walking right into a Koryu so I think that was what was on his mind.
35 frames, wow :o That Abel was pretty nooby, the good ones or semi-decent ones at least will stop after the 1st or 2nd if they realise there isn’t a hit.
I was playing a friend and started with c.LK xx EX Dankuu after the MK Dankuu pseudo-cross-up then noticed he just wasn’t getting it so I moved onto LP Kouryukens to save meter and then onto HP Kouryukens, he never learned
Oh yeah, needed more Knee, all I have to add really
SWEET!
My replay is ranked 68. Whatever that means…
Oh probably 68th “newest” replay at that time
Damn. All glory is fleeting…
EXCEPT THE GLORY OF SAIKYO!!!
Krackatoa and Xiahou Mao, thank you for your words of wisdom.
i shall try to take them to heart and improve.
if i get any more replays (i have a few but they’re not much better than that one) would there be any interest in me uploading and linking to them?
sort of documenting my progress kind of thing?
Definitely, i have started doing that and the Dan crew are always a great help. Check my signature if you want to see my youtube saikyo diary. :wgrin:
Pretty decent G1 Dan replay from PSN

Nice punish of the whiffed SRK in round 2
c.MK xx Gadouken xx FADC > s.MP xx HK Dankuu FTW
I’d have done a Kouryuken instead of the s.MP combo as I usually botch those up after FADCs
i cant even DO standing medium punch into HK danku… i think its a myth and itsnt really real. u guys make it up just to make us feel wimpy
I’ve done St. MP–>QCB+HK numerous times…sometimes in instances when I could’ve done St./Cr. HP–>QCB+HK
SAIKYO EDIT: Were these 2 ever posted-

Major thanks to Maj for showing them to me =3
Can you do a standing normal into any Dankuu or Gadouken? Really not that hard just practice it
That first video is pretty standard, some stuff not that practical but we’re already aware of
Second video showing how much you can abuse crouching hitboxes giving you extra advantage, I think the timing must be extremely tight on most of that x_x;;
Heh, I showed most of that stuff in the second short Dan vid I did. But I’m sure, like me, he found all that stuff by himself just experimenting in Training.
Both the timing and spacing are tight, as well as being completely character-dependent. It’s no coincidence that key combos for both our movies were both done on Rufus, Chun-Li, and Honda (and he also showed that Abel also the same wonky crouching hitbox issue).
So you did some, if not all, of those Dan skill movies? Kudos
Yeah I remember stuff with EX Gadouken combo into Ultra, which I tried but could never do
Doesn’t seem like it’s something you could do in a match with much ease
I tried last night… ended up losing the damn match.
