I picked up Sagat a few weeks ago, but I’ve had one thing that’s bothered me for a while now…
What exactly is the point of the spinning state after a counterhit uppercut? It throws off my timing for landing a f+RH or even just ultra afterward because of how much higher it launches the opponent. In my experience with Sagat so far, all it does is give me problems with landing combos properly because of arbitrarily changing the timing on followups. Is there any trick I should be doing to make it easier, or just practice counterhit uppercut combos in addition to the regular version so I can recognize it easier?
Just gotta get used to it. No fwd hk . Just ultra
Hey guys I have a question about U2:
Playing Marvel recently has got me into bad habits. I feel like one of the main strategies in Marvel is to finish the fight with no Hyper bars or X-Factor, basically throw the kitchen sink every fight. Even if Hypers miss, they typically cause tons of safe chip damage. This had me into a bad habit of wanting to use my Ultra in every round… almost always leading to a block and punish situation for my opponents.
So I’m wondering what are the safe usage applications of U2 for chip damage. I’ve used it a few times online from mid-full screen on opponent’s wake-up with mixed success. If I time it right they have to block and take chip, or if I time it wrong, they simply jump over and punish. Is this always just going to be a guessing game? I also know that you can link from EX Shot from full screen into U2, but that seems awfully… “lucky” to ever have that situation happen.
Nigga are you serious?
They are two diff fucking games. Combo into your Ultra or use it as a punish or don’t use it.
Period.
Lol couldn’t have said it better.
meh you’re right… over thinking something that is likely to cause me to lose matches more than win’em. stupid
Just got AE. Went in practice mode to see if Guile is shit. He is. Moped a bit, then had a good chortle. Picked up Sagat. Proceeded online. My ass was handed to me.
So many Twins and Akuma’s.
So uh, he is slow and fireballs are tricky. And I fucking hate these CH uppercuts not letting me combo into ultra. Anyway what is this guy’s pressure strings? When where do you use his uppercuts(like when to use a certain strength and stuff?). What matchups is U2 favorable for and the reasons why?
If you answer this you will get a 1000 srk points or whatever they are called.
Seriously, any help will be appreciated.
Pressure strings?
I like to use
cr. lk x n
cr. lk, cr. mp, cr. lp, cr. mk > mk. tiger knee
You can play it safe with cr. lks then move forward a bit and do more cr. lks or add in cr. mp to frame trap them.
As for DPs… usually use HP version, but if they almost directly above you, use the LP version. When the DP is in counter hit state, just go into ultra because f. HK will not connect. Some characters, like Balrog are hard to time the f. HK after DP FADC (non-counterhit), so just go into ultra.
I use U2 for shotos… to punish fireballs on reaction. Also for Blanka to punish blankaballs.
Does EX Tiger Uppercut still connect into Ultra? If so, which characters would this combo not work on?
When Sagat knocks his opponent down, should he try to mix him up or just step back in most cases/matchups?
Yeah, you can go for safe meaty pressure and then when they adapt to that you can go for overhead.
I wouldn’t want to apply oki pressure to grabbers though.
I aint managing to do the safejump setup on yun (throw , h.tk j.hk os tu). His ex and lk srk beat the jump in while the mp gets stuffed and the hk whiffs and he lands fucking far away.
Anyone else having trouble in the lab?
What are some of Sagat’s best BnBs that aren’t one frame links? I’m new to the linking and block string game, and while I can do 1 frame links with Juri (my main), I wouldn’t say my 1 frame links are completely battle ready.
Any help would be appreciated.
Edit: Also, I’m having trouble doing a TU from a crouching position after a combo (i.e. one ending in cr. MP into TU). I can mash it out, but obviously that’s not the best way to go about it.
Hold df then do dp
So df to f,d,df+p? Or by dp you mean df then d+p
I also used to have problem doing cr.lk , cr.lk , cr.lp ,TU(hp). I use down back, when doing the 2 cr.lk, then if they hit I change to down foward when doing cr.lp >then down> then down foward to do the TU more easy. So is db cr.lk, db.cr.lk , df cr.lp , down ,df+hp (to do the TU). But if you can do the full TU motion (f,d,df+p) after df it ok too.
You can go training mode and put random block, so u can train the hit confirm. if they block the first 2 cr.lk, I usually go cr.lp, low TS. If the 2 cr.lk hit use cr.lp, TU (hp).
Hope it help you.
i need to know sagats frame traps with what trap punishes what etc,can some one link it plz?
Any thoughts on dealing with Yun?
It hurts knowing they gave him so many fast/safe attacks with rediculous normals, what makes me really salty is the command grab. lets be real, with the shoulder shove, your not gonna be able to keep him out. I know 'gat needs to block it out and be smart with button presses and pick your openings, but when I get hit with the untechable command grab it just hurts.
thoughts on dealing with him?
one more (not to blow up the thread), and its about the hit confirm block string.
is it possible/realistic to identify if the first two hits are blocked are hit, and if block finish with tiger shot, and if hit follow thru to tiger uppercut? Do you 'gat vets do this, or do you pick one and follow thru? And if so, how do you do the joystick motion?
I’ve got the link timing down, but kinda learned it using the shortcut, so I go df lk, df lk, d lp xx df hp.
If the light kicks are blocked, I’ll either try tick throw, or just keep lk until it pushes them out.
Of course the lk lk lp xx ts gets more pushback and chip, but is more execution heavy to decide mid block stream whether to do TS or TU.
anywho, thoughts would be helpful, thanks!!!
