Sagat Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Explain the inputs on the os cr fierce punch if you dont mind

The inputs are exactly what you expect, it’s the timing that matters.

yea hard to explain basically it depends on the timing but say you do clk meaty then the second should be clk o.s immediately if your too slow she will escape im not 100% sure if this works on rose but it does on most another thing you can do is cmp which comes out faster with less range. hope it helps i’ll go training mode later tonight and try it. I have a tourney tonight when i get home ill try.hope that helps for now.

and as for the roundhouse/tshot yea if they jump its supposed to come out but i think it may be corner only. ill find out.

You could OS low step kick, and I believe that it puts you at range for Cr lp combo afterward.

you can also os jump forward to im pretty sure u cud fuck her up

can u give me a specific situation like are u jumping after knockdown etc

thanks for the reply guys, an example would be i have her knocked down, I go in for cr short pressure, she backdashes to safety…

ok give me sometime i’ll try figure it out man

I’ve always done the cr fierce on reaction to a backdash cause I couldnt figure out the timing.
Those old Alioune videos were great, I just never figured out the timing to a few of them.

a couple questions:

  1. i’ve heard that slower TS are much better for zoning but when i throw them, my opponent eventually walks himself past my comfort zone (outside poke range, too close to throw a fireball ). i have an easier time using HP/HK TS at long range since it comes out so fast so they can’t just walk in my bubble lol. is there something i’m missing with the LP/LK TS or are they kinda useless or maybe matchup dependent?

  2. what is the purpose of medium tiger shots?

  3. in what situations should i be using high ts vs low ts?

  4. i should use well spaced tiger knees to push the other guy out back fullscreen and for the occasional long distance anti air. they can also be used in block strings (again if spaced correctly). am i correct to assume all this or are there other purposes to tiger knees?

5)kara knees? what exactly are they useful for?

thanks for your time guys. any help is appreciated :razzy: countless people played vanilla sagat just for his damage so i figured i’d actually ask advice from folks that have stuck with him despite his nerfs.

Hope this helps you out bud

@tiger slap

thanks for the advice man. much appreciated
any tips on the chun match up? should i keep her out or rush her? maybe just keep her in poke range? she’s personally my hardest match up with sagat.

Chun is a tough match up, I don’t care what anyone says it’s in her favour in this game. Some pro sagat will run in here and say it’s 5-5 but trust me it’s 6-4 chun.

-If she throws you forward and dashes forward and jumps on your wake up DON’T PRESS A BUTTON BECAUSE THIS IS A SAFE JUMP.

-Be careful when she has U1 it’s a sagat KILLER, forces you to do way smarter shots, stick to high shots since the recover faster and be prepared to engage in a footsie battle.

-Be careful with her super, it comes out in 2 frames, and can punish everything you have.

-Tiger shots work really well and you can zone her easy, until she gets U1.

-Bait her to jump, so floaty and high she should eat a TU everytime

-Her focus is busted, don’t try to counter poke when she hits you on block, just block smart and tech smart

-She has much better footsie buttons than you, much better…but try to counter poke with cr.hp cr.mp etc

It tend to play mid-screen, it’s where I personally bait the best. If the chun is aggressive I back up and play defence, if she is a turtle i push her into the corner, fight for your space as gay as that sounds haha. Most importantly, just play the sagat you like.

If it makes you feel better this match up is 5.5/4.5 in AE for Sagat

awesome man! notes taken
so pretty much i should be dealing damage in the chun matchup via TUs and TS’s? i was always wondering why her jump was so floaty…but what do i do about a chun–actually pretty much any character–that sits back and focuses or neutral jump my TS’s? rush them? i figure the only time i should rush someone is if they have a sizable life lead…

Also if you play the mid-screen game vs Chun, make sure your DP’s or Ultra 1 reactions are on point. Most chuns will go for a hazan-shu mixup or cancel it after a normal. And like Tiger Slap said, if she jumps, DP her. She’s super floaty.

Also Chun without meter is pretty free on wakeup, imo. Rush her down at the start to get an early life lead then lame it out if need be.

Just my scrubby 0.02.

I still struggle with Dhalsim/Bison like a mofo, though. :wasted::wasted:

why ultra 1?

You can straight up ultra a baited ex sbk on block. Most good chuns will do a mix of backdash & just blocking on wake up. Kara tk the backdash happy ones. Imo I rush chuns down more after they get ultra one and zone more in the begining. You can ultra 1 or dp the hazan-shu on reaction.

So I’ve picked up Sagat recently as a more ranged counterpart to my usual balls to the wall Makoto maining. I’m really feeling this combo going into AE. My execution with Sagat definitely needs work (having trouble getting DPs off those crouching hitstrings) but I’m working on it. What do you guys think? Maining these two a good move?

I was trying things against some ibuki players last night. I was able to Ultra 2 her mix up bull shit just after I stood up, It would hit on the reverse side and catch her full.

I’m not sure if that’s because she was getting her cross up mis-timed/wrong or not? What say ye?

hey guys me again so im getting my ass kicked alot…my biggest problem is pressure if someone gets in on me i have a total mental break down because im too sacred to do anything even when i have meter and then i start to mash out throw and that only get me in a worse situation…i have tried back dashing but sagats bd is pretty slow and i usually end up in the corner cuz i do this alot…I heard focus attack works well to and im trying it out but i just wanted to know what the best ways to handle jump ins and pressure aside from tiger uper cuts …thanks

Hello chaps

Got one question, why do many top Sagat’s Kara TU when they are within normal TU distance? I was watching Vids of CRK BTS, Sanford, Sunset and AFG and they all were point blank of their opponent and still Kara TU.

Thanks chaps
