I rarely ever ex shot after f.hk, it only does 40dmg for a bar. I only use it if they close to corner to land U1 or if its going to end the match.
For bison, the mk TK will punish a teleport in an option select.
Here’s what I have in another thread that might shed some light on option selects.

Spoiler
I’m going to list useful option selects here, if you want to add to them, feel free. I’m going to work on compiling them into categories and explaining ones that are character specific. This is a preliminary list and format. PLEASE share your knowledge if you think that there are important ones missing.
- :db::lk::lk::lp:
Simple option select for the bnb, if someone with a reversal that takes more than 5 frames tries to mash out a reversal on wakeup, you will block it if it is invincible, and interrupt if it isn’t
2.:db::lk::hk::lk::lp:
Same as number 1, you will block a reversal on wakeup, but you will sweep if they backdash
3.:db::lk::l::hp::db::lk::lp:
Same as number 2, but you insert a standing HP instead of HK, this is to anticipate a back dash on a character who’s back dash is farther than a sweep will reach
- :uf::hk::dp::2k::d::hk:
This is a basic and easy to do jump in option select. If you are trying to get in on someone and see an opening for a jump in, but think they might back dash away, or teleport, you can do this. Basically, you input the J HK as you normally would for a jump in, then imediately put in an EX TK input before you touch the ground, then do a sweep as you normally would. If the J HK whiffs, you will do an ex TK. So if the backdashed, you will either hit them, or be in their face ready to start a block string, or whatever.
NOTE: This is bad to do against akuma’s teleport, because you will whiff the TK most of the time. It only works on Dhalsim if he teleports back, but works great on Bison. it works on all back dashes, but you probably shouldn’t be jumping in that much anyways. You can also replace the Sweep with any block string or OS you want.
Question:
WHY is using kara-TU to get under a fireball SO. DAMN. SATISFYING?
Yeah, I went into training and noticed the 40dmg, not worth it at all.
A big part of it is knowing the WTF factor that just went through your opponents head(lol). My favourite is the Air Kara uppercut, so much damage and so demoralizing for them.
I use ex TS after round house kick a lot against certain characters(Gief especially) because it cost one bar to send them across the screen which is well worth it. Also when it’s going to end the match.
I DONT KNOW , BUT IT’S JUST SO …
GOOOOODDDDDDDDDDDD SPURT
:looney:
my fav is kara ex TU trough fireball > u1 to end the match . You can actually hear the brains explode on the other end of the mic.
Need a few tips against Guy.
First is Guy’s slide safe at a certain distance? Event hubs has it at minus 10 and minus 5 on block but just wanted to know if someone could clarify if you could punish it at any distance.
Are his elbow drops safe on block? I recall throwing many guys out of it on block but that could simply mean them not pressing a tech.
Is there a reliable OS against his amazing back dash?
Greatly appreciated boys!
His slide and elbow seem to be the cornerstone of most Guys out there. Since his cr hk has so many active frames (10), I am pretty sure it is safe on block from the right distance. However, his run slide does not have the same active frames (6), so at very safest, you can grab or cr lp to punish. I don’t know the answer to the elbow, it seems pretty safe to me since it’s active until he hits the ground. As for a reliable option select for his back dash, I believe you could OS a f lk into your block strings on his wake up. Same as an OS sweep, but press towards lk in between the cr lks.
Thank you very much for the info! I’ll just be off to a cave for a few days untill I get this shit down.

Very much apreciated!
Do you guys use standing FP as an anti air? Mucking around in training I seemed to react slightly faster than with St HK
I need some work on my zoning game. Does anyone have any links to some good write-ups or vids that help with Zoning with Sagat? I just see Bonchan’s Sagat and wonder how he zone’s so well(lol, obviously he’s amazing).
What do you guys do, and can you offer tips?
I shoot from all distances, they’re mostly smart shots, kara’s, speed changes, height change etc. My biggest problem is my horrid reaction on TU while walking backwards, has anyone else had this problem when starting off with gat? It makes my jump in defence ‘free’ and my zoning game much weaker, obviously I have to practice my reactions.
What are some of the fakes you do that are effective for your Gat.
Thanks in advance, lost in a recent Tournament to a Ryu who got so many free jump in’s due to my ass reactions, could have taken off at least 600 damage in a few rounds(lol). I think with better and safer zoning I’ll feel more comfortable with my timing on TU.
Or, you know, tiger uppercut.
You just gotta be unpredictable with it bro. Im not the best at it either but i can usually make some one pay for jump ins and I try to make them jump as much as possible. I find if i have a hard time reacting to something like a punish or anything else. I concentrate on not missing it then eventually its second nature. I also have had the problem with backing up to much. But when iI catch myself doing it i start to try and push them into the corner and slowly walk foward.
I have the zoning game down thanks to ST but up close I don’t know what to do what are his block strings?
Do his hit confirm combo - cr.lk cr.lk cr.lp (cancel into TU). Tiger Knee strings, cr.lk cr.lk cr.lk cr.mk xx mk tk, cr.lk cr.lk cr.mp xx mk tk, etcetera. Ending strings with low tiger shot is usually safe except against a few characters. Experiment.
It’s like a overnight sensation haha. All I did was watch a few of Sanford’s vids and see how useful st.lp is. Before when I used it I just did it randomly to bait people, and wasn’t thinking ‘okay I have to be ready to TU’ and that’s why when they jumped I would do jack. Now when ever I press a fake button It means I’m ready to TU. I know that sounds hella obvious to most of you but it’s a concept I couldn’t get in my head until I did it(keep in mind just started gat early October).
I also sat in Training and learned the spacing on TS and TU on jump ins.
I seriously schooled myself!
Welcome to Vanilla?
@orochi For now just try to do the normal block string, and base your offense off your first cr.lk. Go for a grab, or go for another cr.lk. If your grab is getting teched, and they block your cr.lk, this is where you have to start incorporating frame traps. What you do after first cr.lk is walk forward very slightly, and cr.mp. If they OS tech this will hit them for a nice counter-hit, and after you hit-confirm into cr.LP xx HP TU. It gets really fun to play around with and experiment. After you get really used to it you can do stuff like counter-hit cr.MP>cr.MP xx HP TU.
Ease up. When your moving back you can get a FP out faster than a TU, that’s all I was implying.
Having played Sagat fairly seriously for the past few days I can honestly say I feel more comfortable zoning with Ryu than with Sagat. I mean how the feck can you approach Guile, he just holds down back and say’s “I’ll take your points” and don’t even get me started on Akuma. Hell even dudley’s giving me trouble… :shake:
I feel this whole Sagat project is going to taker a lot more patience than I thought. I don’t feel like I’m in control of the match when I play sagat, more like I’m waiting for an opponent error.
And I’m saying you basically never will have a good reason to not TU because jumps are rather slow. AA trade TU -> f.hk -> ultra is a lot different than AA trade s.hp. Also s.hp is a fairly slow move.
