Sagat Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

I’m still having a difficult time getting that Fake Kick in the Normal Trial going.

I watched a few tutorials on youtube and that still didn’t help.

I’m still new to using Sagat…since I never used him in SF2…he is a powerful character.

This is not so much a Sagat question as much as a general question that relates to Sagat.

What is the deal with using traditional AA’s in IV and having them stuffed or trade a lot more often than in previous games in the series. For instance, Ryu and Sagat DP’s get stuffed or trade very often in this game almost as if they have no incincibility whatsoever. What is going on?

How useful is the fake kick really?

Oh and how do you do an EX Focus Attack?

Is there any way to avoid Sagat dropping in the corner in a Sagat mirror during an ultra? Other than just not doing it of course…like is there a way to know if it’s gonna drop by looking?

do you mean rage quitting lol?

Or do you mean where they don’t get hit by the full ultra?

I’ve noticed sometimes it’s the f.HK that makes the ultra not get full hits, that’s why a lot of people say don’t do the f.HK is the opponent is in the corner.

Whats the best way to go about a dictator who loves stomp? I’ve been trying to focus them and get in a little bit and that seems to work alright but I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions…

you gotta be above him or hit him before the stomp goes active for regular.

ex, you can throw off the tracking by backdashing and fwd HK and punish appropriately when it recovers. you can trade by being above him, but the trade is NOOOOOOOOOOoooooTT worth it, you take something like 18% life on counter hit from it.

j.FP beats stomps, but not DR’s, and that’s where I get screwed up because trying to guess leads to beat down city :frowning:

No, the last portion of Sagat’s ultra completely misses in a mirror sometimes in the corner. It’s happened in a Japanese mirror match, forgot the link though. But yeah, happened more than once in a set I was playing today. That shit sucks :|.

I did it with the normal uppercut FADC ultra in the corner.

try backdash ultra instead of forward dash ultra, and if it’s still missing, I’ll try to think of something else lol.

Also, is it random that it’ll miss? Or does it consistently miss?

It also misses on vega anywhere sometimes, I’m thinking seriously 1/150-200. It just goes through the full animation except on the last punch he does it and theres no vega in the air with him.

How do you use tiger knee? Not like, the command, but how do you actually use it. I’d like to see what people say  #realtalk

The thing about the toward+hk Ultra is if you don’t do the toward+Hk the combo gets nerfed by 90 points, pretty significant if you ask me. Just practice until it is 100% in your noggin.

I’m becoming a bit addicted to Sagat’s poking game. Do you guys think it would be cool to make a topic where I test things out against often used normals? Like I want to know for example what stand MK (far) can hit over for sweeps in particular and what things low fierce is good to stuff with. Maybe we can get a normals comprehensive guide or something going on how and what to use for a given situation. (like people used to do with Guile in SFII games)

I think if we get this stuff down, we can take him to a whole different level of zoning. Sagat is one of only a couple characters that can compete on the strength of his normals to a big extent I think cause he has great range on everything and does really solid damage. Even without the Tiger Destruction combos he would still be an A or S rank character. Add that to his combos, safe TK, uppercut etc and we have an even bigger monster.

One move in particular I am absolutely in love with is Low Fierce. The priority is so strong and when it hits as a counter hit, it’s almost like a tiger uppercut on the ground.

Pistol: I actually use (forward and roundhouse) TK quite a bit as an anti air because it covers a great horizontal range and it stuffs the early part of jump ins. It has good priority unless the opponent’s move hits over it. Great to throw out against Balrog, and others that require getting close with armor EX moves, and characters without a really strong move like an Uppercut. You can also use it in a limited capacity to hop over fireballs like the old days (don’t think it’s a generally good idea but will do it over Guile’s sonic boom) I use EX Knee if I am fishing for a throw because it’s safe from any range or hit, a lot of people won’t tech.

One character specific thing who it really fucks up is Cammy. TK will stuff Hooligan, Her jump in arc lands right in it, stuffs her jumping normals, stuffs her turn punch… god DAMN!

I like the idea about normals. I was gonna put one in my thread actually, once I get some time to really test them

yeah, good idea about the normals. i too am loving his pokes. he’s very fast up close (faster then most people think). plus, after a few poke strings, people tend not to push him as much. then it’s easy to catch them sleeping mid-distance with a tk. sagat is the man!

I noticed that whenever I am facing an opponent who is using Guile and plays the ‘turtling’ method.

The only way I can defeat him is to get up close and personal and to avoid Guile’s Flash Kick.

I also noticed that Sagat is highly effective at close range.

For me at least, I can really do damage up close.

I just need to get my combos down so I can end my matches quicker!

Sagat is so good up close it should be illegal. I’ll write out some stuff I do later.

^^^

LOL at being so illegal.

Yes, please share some of your success stories.

I have several…I was facing another opponent online…and he used Akuma.

For some strange reason, Akuma was going to use the Demon Rush on me…but then I proceeded to just randomly use an EX Tiger Knee Crush which wiped Akuma !out!!! LOL!

I was sooo suprised that I even won!

Yes I agree and noticed the same thing.

Fireball wars just doesn’t cut VS Guile but a well times LK cross up on Guile works wonders and sets you up to deal big damage in close range. Even if Guile tries to Flash Kick, if you timed the cross up right (when Guile’s in the corner on wakeup) you can get in nice and close.

This would be immensely useful.

i’ve oddly never felt like this is a problem to me but i can’t recall what I do.
try throwing them the throw has a slightly faster startup than lariat so you might have time. Also, you may be able to jump straight up. if you jump straight up you can jump out of any SPD attempt, and if it’s fast enough (i don’t have sf4 here to test) for you to not get hit by lariat on the way up, do neutral j.rh on the way back down and at that really close positioning it should beat lariat because sagat’s foot hits zangief’s head.
