good read. Oh how I loathe you TAO! (Bison player that placed 4th at the Korean Nationals tourny) The amount of pressure he puts with headstomps/DR/scissor kicks is MAD annoying

best bison on east coast vs a solid sagat from china town fair. I think each match is in a different video, but in the end the sagat player wins. Match goes 3-0 bison player cuz sagat switched to zangief for 2 rounds for the counter pick. Sagat player comes back to win 4 straight with his sagat. Just fish around for each round. They are in the related videos section on youtube. Worth watching.
What makes this a great vid is how aggressive the bison is, andre is always rushing you down but still maintains his charge, hard stuff.
EDIT:
Andre is one of my training partners I got him for bison. Chris Hu for Ryu, and Arturo for sim / seth and rahsaan for basically the whole cast and auto-demon for akuma. If you have any questions or want me to do write ups on the match ups let me know. Dhalsim write up in the works.
From watching the first match it seems that Erick only won from guessing right a few times.
I have seen both of these men play and conversed with them.
I can’t see why Andre would lose to Erick, other then Sagat’s massive damage output and Erick getting a few psychic TU’s.
Smoothviper’s Sagat is definitely smooth.
I’m sorry for the horrible pun
(Watching Sagat’s ultra damage makes me cry though… shit is retarded)
Anyone got any tips on doing that cornertrap tiger knee stuff? Specifically, I’m having trouble with comboing a standing short (neutral) into tiger knee. I’d love to be able to buffer the start of the motion into the kick but of course this would just result in a stepping kick.
Is it just a matter of being very fast or is there some kind of shortcut you can use? If I’m not able to do it, should I just use a crouching poke instead? (I’m pretty consistent with the df->d->df tiger upercut shortcut so same should apply to tiger knee).
i main abel but i’m trying to learn sagat for some of my bad matchups and the fact that no one in my crew plays him and we need some sagt exp. i think i have his combos down but i need to know some things
his best normals and what situations to use them in?
best anti air?
best air to air
things of that nature would be great, thanks
i like sagat!
Hey all; I’m just here to let you know of a new training system myself and Illwill79 have divised.
In this training program, we have regular tournaments, a mIrc chat room, a dedicated sub-forum for feedback on matches and several players who record matches.
The training program is strictly for dedicated players. You dont have to be the best (though we do have several strong players) you just have to be dedicated.
If you would be interested in joining this new program, please see the OP of this thread :
hey guys, i just recently picked up sagat as my main…and im running into a lot of problems in close range combat. it seems like every move or poke i do gets stuffed by someone elses jab or even mk for shotos. does anyone else run into this problem? my jabs and shorts aren’t fast enough and just get stuffed by EVERYTHING. i end up having to just block whenever im close to someone non stop until i get get away.
am i not pressing the buttons in correct sequence or fast enough or whats going on? thanks.
What is the fastest recovering tiger shot? I am trying to bait jump ins with ts
use low RH tigershots to bait jump ins.
use high fierce tigershots when in fireball wars.
Best normals: st.MK: stuffs a load of shit
cr.LK: great way to set up uppercut if you can link it.
st.HK: does a good deal of damage for a normal
Best AA: HP Tiger Uppercut (LP version to stuff or trade with crossups)
st.HK (good if you time it right, but some moves beat this so use sparingly)
Best air to air: Sagat shouldn’t really be jumping, but if the situation calls for it:
j.MP: active frames for days… stuffs a lot of shit in the air.
j.HP: does good damage and kills Bison’s DR and headstomp easy.
^thanks a lot, is there anything else i should keep in mind while playing him that applies to every character?
General things you need to keep in mind:
-
Learn to TU as an AA. I see a lot of Sagat players using st.HK cuz its easy and shit, but TU is always a superior option.
-
Learn to link his normals into TU. People tend to have problems with cLK cLK cLP TU links… so I would recommend cLK cLK TU, as far as you can hit-confirm it when you see the second cLK hit.
-
Learn when to TS and when not to TS. I think this is self-explanatory.
-
TU-FADC-ULTRA (learn situations and character specific setups for dashes after the FADC. By this I mean that certain characters are harder to hit with the F.HK after the FADc, like Seth, Gouken and Boxer, so you’re better off just doing the ultra after the dash)
-
Learn to link TK off st.LK. Against certain characters, you can lock them in a TK trap. See Mago videos and you’ll get what I mean.
Thats all I got for now.
for Scissor kick, LK SK is like 0+ on block, 5- for med and 8- for HK. Since TU is 5 frames so most likely you can punish MK SK.
I’m not sure about you but jumping back HK works pretty well against DR and Headstomp. For me at least.
Thanks for the info on MK scissors
As for jump back HK, I suppose it works as well. I don’t use it because I once lost a game where I used it and Bison got my outstretched limb… no jk.
how come sometimes when i TU the opponent is launched spinning? then i can’t f+HK properly…
that’s what happens when you land the TU as a counter-hit
counterhit TU causes them to go spinning. tiger knee them instead if this occurs.
FADC backwards is safer and more consistent if you want to land ultra though. you can ultra even if it is a counterhit TU.
On counter hit TU, you can back dash and still get the F+HK > Ultra.
