Sagat Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Just play online or offline against real opponents and do nothing focus mainly on TUing their jump ins. Eventually you’ll play against an opponent who can zone far better than and can scare you into blocking their jump ins which you’ll have to overcome on your own.

Playing against a programed CPU that randomly jumps in at you is can only help you get so far cuz you’re always expecting the CPU to jump sooner or later since you programed it to. A good opponent can easily mind fuck you by never jumping and even forcing you throw out desperate TU’s

I am talking about strict reaction time. I see something I have to hit it really fast. Gameplay strategy will not be taken into account. Guess I will just play Guitar Hero Metallica to increase it or something.

Two more videos are up on my youtube channel, the first four are all in the same night. I will upload more later.

While using Sagat vs. Shoto,
I need a safe follow up for a blocked hurrican kick.
I typically use the throw after the hurrican kick finishes, but its a gamble. because sometime I get Dragon Punched.
Whats the word from the Pros?

I don’t think there is one… its 0 on block I believe?

what you wanna do is duck and HP before they land

ok duh.
quess I was try for to much flash.

keep it simple.
follow with a TK

When is the HK coming, from full-screen, or closer? If it’s from a distance I can react to, I’m cr.Fierce-ing 'em out every time. Somehow, the ones intent on using HKs just never learn.

I’ve noticed too, that sooner or later, every last scrubby Ryu will jump in on you. I’m almost used to it, and just wait patiently for theirs to run out, and from there, I follow up, depending on the circumstances (clean vs. trade). Not quite to the point where I’m FADCing out of every hit, but with a little mental training, I think I can make something happen even on a clean counter.

Now, for MY two questions:

  1. I seem to be able to hit EXTU -> Ultra alot more online than offline. Why is this? My success rate is somewhere around 75% online vs. maybe… 10% offline.

  2. This one’s more of a personal taste, but I’m trying to get the winquote that talks about learning from their loss. Which one is that?

anyone here familiar with an xbox sagat with a handle: wizardly t or wizardly ryan t?

im not sure what was in his name only remember wizardly

backdash (it has brief invincibility frames), now you can punish both a shoryu and a throw attempt

Don’t even bother, c.HP does nearly as much damage and is much easier/safer/reliable/faster/better. And you recover from it faster to initiate mix up.

Would you even need a backdash? couldn’t you just mash :df: :db: :df:, (:db:) :hp: to get it out without getting out of crouching. I’ve never tested because I always c.hp. You could end in down back in case you cross up. Even if you dont cross up the DP will register

Is backdashing the safest when an unsafe tk is blocked? What about a blocked safe tk?

that works to stuff them on there way in .
But what should I do if I block the entire HK. will the cHP beat the throw/DP attempt?
I’ll do some danger room training tonite

thanks guys

Backdashing wont do jack after doing an unsafe tiger knee. Your gonna get punished so best bet is to mash TU in hope that they didnt react fast enough.

You get alot of options after a safe knee but make sure it hits at the very latest or else you could get reversaled.
-c.lp > s.lk xx TK
-c.lp xx TS
-TU FADC
-crossup

i mean if the thing is blocked because you didnt react in time to crouch which was what his question was

Oh that’s right.

There’s no safe punish if you block it. Make sure to duck it, I don’t know why you wouldn’t be ducking it…

I asked this earlier, but what is Sagat’s best Air-to-Air?

Most common scenario is during a fireball war, I go for a jump-in but opponent also jumps. What should I stick out that has the best chance of not being stuffed?

mid punch? the infamous elbow? This thing seems to win most of the time i throw it out. I mean the thing trades with DP’s sometimes :lovin:

I know that Sagat doesn’t have a lot of long combo strings, but I was wondering if there are any reset option available, particularly from BnB combos into mixups or other BnB combos?

Mid punch is generally too slow for Air-to-Air, forward or early roundhouse would likely be your best bet.

c.lk, fake kick, throw  They’ll be blocking low which makes it harder to tech.

Hey MYK. Can I take you up on this offer? We’ve played Sagat mirror matches a few times before at V94 and Super Arcade. You’re easily better than me so I’d really like the chance to improve.

Any take on sagat’s footsies? Never realized how important it was until watching the evo finals. Seriously though, his normals seem to be lacking.
