Sagat Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Gate Preference?

Just curious if most Sagat players use a square or octagonal gate? I haven’t really seen this discussed before.

I started out w/ square then went to octo to nail down my tiger shots. Recently went back to square though after playing in the arcade w/ square, now having problems w/ blocking, and getting my ultra out. Hopefully ill just get used to it again.

Me too. Started out on a modified Hori stick, then recently switched to a custom build. Been switching back and forth between octagonal and square, but feel more comfortable using the octagonal. It’s easier for me to pull of the tigershots and ultra on the octagonal.

What’s up with Tiger Knee Cross ups? Are they a reliable strategy? If so, how do you set them up?

I saw Cross up TK -> Ultra Combo in one video.

I’ve done them on Ryu and El Fuerte, not sure, haven’t really practiced them, though, hoepfully someone has

Hello guys i’m totally new sagat player and i have a huge problems against players who stay on constant crouching block,i can’t throw and i can’t hit them if i try spamming tiger shots they just block and wait for good moment to jump counter me
What am i supposed to counter them with ? i try with ex focus attack but they kick my ass all of the time, also i play unuasually terribly versus Rufus i don’t have any wins versus this char he always manage to counter me wonderfully he has a nice vitality and pretty strong damage(i have to mention that most of rufus players play on crouch block though maybe that’s my problem)combining this with all their freaking counters i just make WAAAGH all the time. Also i think i play too ofensivelly with Sagat but i’m just much better attacking then defending and waiting for counter
thanks for help in advance

You should be able to throw a crouching opponent. Try practice mode with CPU in constant crouching block to see what does and doesn’t work for you.

For Rufus, use tigershots and keep your distant. Eventually the chip damage from the low tigershots will force the player in, which you can counter with standing HK or tiger uppercuts.

sagat

Sagat has one of the best overheads in the game. it’s hard to see it coming. Just do forward + fierce punch on a crouching opponent, follow it up with a crouching round house sweep. I wouldn’t do that on a pro, but it sounds like you’re playing newer players. the overhead makes them want to stand up because they’re all like “shit I can’t crouch forever” then you sweep them

you can also grab a crouching opponent, or cross them up.

Also: try this since you like being aggressive:

  1. crouching light punch
  2. standing light kick
  3. light kick tiger knee
  4. repeat

works wonders in the corner. Won’t work against top guys, but will against average players.

Rufus is FREEEEEEEE I play both characters, standing round house shits on rufus. Also, don’t jump in on him, I already wrote a topic on rufus in the match up thread. read that - it’s not worth writing all over again.

In general, if you lose to a character a lot- try to learn that character yourself. you don’t have to get good with that character - just try to see it from their perspective.

Hi,
I am having a lot of trouble with Sagat’s links for instance the cr.lk, cr.lk, cr.lk

I can get 2 of them easy about 80-90% of the time but the third one is killing me. I can never get the timing down. I have tried double tapping and its not working for me. I would like to get the rhythm of presses down.

On my blog, I am going to post some videos of my play and I just need some input once I got them up there.

This is me beating a dead horse, so sorry. Practice man, it takes some longer then others but you will get it, just don’t get discouraged.

Here is my suggestion http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=195068&page=4#97

Thanks, I have been practicing a lot. It is frustrating because I think once I break through this wall with links I should be a lot better.

I just got into G2 and been getting my ass kicked. Same thing happened when I first got it.

I will probably post videos in my blog to tighten up my game soon. Its pretty raw and I anticipate things to much.

I wouldn’t put so much focus on hitting links. I got rank 3 on xbl and I couldn’t do them then. But, at the same time I was getting my ass handed to me in tournaments. I still am.

Noobish question, but I was wondering when I FADC out of a TU why sometimes I end following through with the rest of the FA??

Iam I supposed to hit dash once or twice, what am i doing/not doing to make this happen??

You aren’t dashing out of it, or you’re doing it too late. Most likely you’re only only hitting forward once when you’re supposed to do it twice.

What kind of stick or controller are you using?

Dont you have to hit links to create block strings?

Hey guys, total newbie here. I’m trying to do the EX Tiger Upper --> Ultra, but for some reason I can only get it 10% of the time, whiff it 20% of the time, and the other 70%, it’s like the input for the ultra doesn’t even make it through. Can anyone clue me in on the timing required for this combo?

@ drian, just using a regular ps3 pad,

gonna get a fightpad or SE stick next week, still not sure which though.

so u reckon its the timing, prob is but i hit dash near enough instantly after the FA, this shit is making sagats HT 3 way harder then it shud be:bluu:

Practice just Dashing out of Focus attacks… learn to walk before you learn to run

what are the best setups for a SAFE tiger knee? other than spacing it are there block strings that involve a non-punishable tiger knee?
