Hahaha… Whatever you say guy. If the lag were really bothering you, you would’ve quit at the beginning but instead you decided to use the lag as an excuse to drop at the end when you didn’t feel you had a chance to win.
Anyway, on to Sagat. I don’t think that he’s necessarily overpowered as much as he is just a very solid all-around character. I MIGHT be inclined to say that Sagat deals a bit too much and damage and takes a bit too little, but I’d rather see Capcom focus on giving the characters that truly struggle against him better tools to combat his great zoning game rather than see him toned down
Sagat has a safe tiger knee if it hits on the second hit. Nasty range on his pokes game and amazing priority on his jump-in mp(it trades with shoryukens). That is not including the damage his normals do. Especially standing roundhouse which can be used as a nasty ani-air.Also nasty damage on his ultra. That being said you man up pick rog shove your glove down his mouth and make him choke on it.Or any other character. He lost to Dhalsim at the Japan nationals and a Ryu/Seth user won in Korea. The game is fairly balanced I don’t see a Sagat having an unfair adavantage over Wong’s Rufus, Sanchez Bison, Mike Ross Honda, a Gootecks or Ronstoppable Rog. Ex and focus moves in the game have really helped non-projectile characters in this game tremendously.
Sean has an unblockable in DC 3S, I think, but not in any of the version that people play competitive, Arcade or PS2.
Yeah, it wasn’t really clear that my post was supposed to be a joke. My bad. I tried ending on the fourth point that sagat isn’t super broken to try to emphasize it. That didn’t work out so well.
Finally, the first step to the healing process is admitting there is a problem. The only part about these Sagat debates that really pissed me off was that nobody wanted to admit the brokeness. Just own up to the brokeness. Reckin highlighted the brokeness. He didn’t defend it…HE EMBRACED IT. Now that more posts like this are showing up among other Sagat players, I feel the community can make real progress into deconstructing this game and it’s flaws.:lovin:
why not just give him standard stamina and not fuck with his balance otherwise? I mean, sagat is good enough not to need health higher than the 1000 shoto amount, and I think this is pretty apparent. He’s an all around great character, they shouldn’t fuck with his damage because his balance is on point, but he really doesn’t need higher than 1000 health, I don’t understand why capcom thinks he needs this advantage with all of his positive traits!
I don’t think he is broken, but I do think he is overpowered. The fact that he is the top character AND has no bad matchups should be all anyone really needs to determine that.
I also think that given two equally-skilled opponents, Sagat’s advantage does diminish somewhat the better those players are. The problem I have with Sagat is that he is very easy to use for someone who is that good. The game shouldn’t just take into account “good players” when balancing the characters. While I appreciate the difficulty in balancing character for all levels of play, I don’t see how they could have left Sagat the way he is. At least make his moves less damaging or give him normal vitality.
You either get the agressive ones who start the match with tiger knee, keep jumping in and go for every reversal attack possible, or the ones who think they’re playing ST.
I think Sagat was overdue for some respect. For a long tome he had to be 2nd fiddle to the Shoto group. Now, he is 2nd to none. He is extremely powerful, but even he can be beaten. some oeople think that Sagat is boring. These might be the one who have never tried some of those off-the-chain combos and tactics in his arsenal. Sagat noe has a more effective way of mixing up strategies at a moment’s notice. His mid range is so krazy now that you can trick one into thinking that you will just play turtle all match. That’s when you can surprise them with a powerful rush. He has more links that people realize and is deceptively quick.
Sagat is not unbeatable. However, in the right hands, it can sure deem that way. Both he and Akuma are my mains. learning the ins and outs of both of these guys is something special. If you learn to play Sagat wisely, you will be a formidable opponent for even the world’s best players.
Ugh, so I found a site that says in later games it describes Sagat nearly beaten Ryu unconscious and trying to help him up when Ryu blasts him with a Metsu Shoryuken. I am disappointed…
Naw I kid I kid, Ryu is still the man. I can’t believe it though, based on his character. Maybe he developed moreso after the first tourney into the man he is now. Anyone got a good link for a site with lots of this background history?
