I’m gonna wait until I get a copy to see if they changed properties on AS EXTU to increase the frame window for imputing the ultra.
Honestly Sagat’s ex moves were hella ass in vanilla. EX shot only travels faster and gives better frame advantage on block. Doesn’t have faster execution or anything. EX knee is also kinda bleh. No added properties aside from a damage and easier to frame trap for more advantage.
So will he see use from AS? Yeah, of course. It just sucks he needs to burn meter to make his AA move not suck ass. Meter management is gonna be tough with Sagat. Even tougher then Ryu now probably.
I think you will see two kinds of Sagat’s. Ones that burn ex meter all day for AS stock and ones that ignore it for the most part to make FADC’s safe. I mean that safety is HUGE and a massive part of Sagat’s metagame. It’s a big part of what makes him so threatening when he gets in.
That’s why a part of me thinks AS will fall to the way side eventually.

It does more than twice as much as his regular tiger shot (no other character in the game but Sagat, who the fuck thought that was a good idea?) and sets up stupid easy juggles from full screen and the topper is if you happen to nail a regular fireball, you can fire a NORMAL tiger shot from across the screen for a juggle.
That’s just insane. The fact that you complain about no added speed just speaks to the ridiculousness of his regular tiger shots.

I can see the point, but I don’t like this kind of mentality. Not a fan of the “Ultimately Ryu and Sagat had to get docked down for the better of the game” one either.
It’s both pretty much on the point that “If such and such character sucks, everyone else should too”. I mean, that’s the logical conclusion to both of those trains of thought.
All that was needed for the better of the game was that the disadvantaged members of the cast be better equipped to handle the better characters. That could have been done in a number of ways, and it sucks that Capcom took the “take the better characters down” approach instead of staying more committed to the “bring the worse characters up” approach.
Gouki got nerfed too, but it’s just a damage decrease and a loop restriction for the most part. Big deal. I doubt air tatsu and demon flip will be any less effective.
Sagat and Ryu were only strong because they had bullshit they could abuse. I’d rather see less of that than more.
Compared to the boost that other ex moves give it’s not THAT spectacular. They are good, but you would expect more from an ex stock considering other fbs have faster execution and faster recovery. That said normal shots are already good so that’s probably why the boost isn’t massive.
That said my overall point of his ex moves not being that amazing overall still stands.
I heard this was still in SSF4? Or did I miss an update or something? I was pretty annoyed with the whole general loop itself, was ridiculous IMO.
Yeah, man totally. They were only strong cuz of bullshit. Good zoning, good normals, good AA options, good mix-ups and good rushdown had nothing to do with it.
I think the point is you can win with Sagat without doing any of those things. You are a good Sagat player, but there are many others who just abuse his wonder moves without rhyme or reason, and get much better results then they should.
How do you win without zoning, mixing up, footsies, or proper use of his normals against an above average player? I would really love to know this secret that people keep talking about.
I dunno what to say. I’m dead serious. I dunno what to say about casual Sagats laying waste to casual anything else. Nor do I care. If they don’t wanna lose to casual Sagat that just rely on his power then they should you know…get better at the game.

Sagat does have some bullshit, like shooting down someone midscreen with kara-knee for pretty dumb damage, and F+RH juggling off of every damn thing under the sun. But when it comes down to actually winning, you’re right, you can’t just half-ass your way through winning all the time, just like any other character.
come on now. EX tiger shot gives more than double damage of normal TS (only char in the game with that), sets up full screen juggles (only char in the game with that), and could combo into ultra in the corner. That’s stupid good.
Sure, EX tiger knee wasn’t the greatest, but EX tiger upper set up ultra (as hard as it is to link)
I’m not sure where you get the idea that everyone else has good EX. There are tons of useless EX moves out there (EX oicho, EX hands, EX rekka, etc.)
Cut off that last bit about combo into Ultra in the corner. It’s a joke and you know it.
My bad, I shoulda said lackluster ex moves compared to other good chars.
The point is that the option to Ultra afterwards is still there and can give you a win in a pinch. Like you said most of Sagat’s EX-attacks are lackluster, hence why he can build meter so easily. He doesn’t rely on EX-attacks for his normal game.
AS will not fall to the wayside. If anything, it will become more useful and incorperated into people’s gameplay more often. Its combo potential is looking way too good for it to be discarded. I have a feeling that people haven’t even scratched the surface of what AS is capable of.
Fastest 2 hit projectile in the game that does decent damage and sets up full screen juggles, safe 1/2 screen knee thats great for chipping out an opponent and getting up in their grill safely for little risk (and can go 3/4 screen with karas) and an uppercut that does the most dmg in the game, goes through projectiles clean and can juggle ultra when aa’d high. Yeah his ex moves are totally lackluster compared to other ‘good’ chars. I know you’re in panic mode or whatever with the sagat nerfs but think a little bit before you post dramalord.
