Sagat Improvement Thread

Which one was that? I’m curious to see. Don’t tell me it’s a japanese tournament, 'cause that’s a Ryu/Akuma/Sagat nation over there. lol.

Prolly japanese yeah. lol

An important distinction to make is how easy a character is to actually PLAY as opposed to how easy they are to win with once you’ve reached their full potential. For example, I’d argue that Vega is easier to actually play than Sagat, just harder to win with. If you catch my meaning.

Im interested in seeing what kind of setups the tiger scar move will provide.

Actually I DO DENY that.

Sagat is very very strong in SF4, but he is not OP or broken. Yes, fighting him is tough for everyone (including Sagat, that mirror is nasty), but that doesn’t mean he is OP or broken.

Less QQ please.

TU > FADC > F+HK > Ultra was overpowered and deserved a damage nerf, you can’t deny that.

Overall I didn’t find him too troublesome, but some of his damage was a little iffy. Totally against 100 dmg TU though, thats just stupid.

yeah, I read that TU does 100 damage in SSF4, thats very retarded. and the angryscar make it 170 damage, which is even more retarded.

yes and no, i liked my pretty little green rep bar, i however disliked being neg repped everyone disagreed with what i had to say and every time the word “smash” came up in my posts

im hoping when super is released, sagat mains (the ones who tier-whore profusely) find out dudley aint the god king of everything(hopefully) and desperately scramble around looking for the best character in the game

the way i see it, sagat is “overpowered” from having a risk/reward system highly skewed in his favour in a lot of situations, its not that he isn’t hard to master/learn at a high level it’s that he has some stuff that just provides excellent padding that shields him from mistakes - something a lot of the characters in this game don’t have

All u have to do is spend one ex bar and it goes back to 200.

I agree the damage was too high, but having one string/combo where the damage is too high, doesn’t make the CHARACTER as a whole overpowered.

I’d rather fight Sagat than Rufus any day of the week, but that is cause I main Chun and that match is bullshit.

I completely agree with this. Like seriously, you could buy SF4, play Blanka for one hour and you’ve basically explored his full potential. He has absolutely no learning curve and no execution barrier, but you’re gonna lose really bad to anyone who’s half decent.

Anyway, the best way to describe vanilla Sagat is disproportionately effective. I’ll laugh my balls off if super has an O.Sagat code. TIGER!

Mago’s Sagat is overpowered is GOD tier. Don’t matter how good Sagat is, it’s still up to the player. If he was “easy mode”’ everyone would use him. I don’t know why people complain. Just deEal with it, there will neve be an evenly balanced game, where’s the fun in that. It’s a fighting game, be up for the challenge. Complaning about sagat in sf4 is like complaining about how mvc2 only has a handful of tourney worthy characters.

I use sagat btw. Lol. For a while now, and there’s still alot that I have to learn. And he is not easy mode.

Hence why I never stated Sagat as a whole was overpowered, just some of his damage.

I was frightened for a second when I saw a vid of Sagat pulling off Trade TU > F+RH > U1. Then I kept watching and found out that it was very situational and doesn’t occur often. I was relieved to put it lightly.

I just love how TU got nerfed down to 100 other wise it would’ve been Super Turtle Fighter 4

Plus, other DPs lost their major priorities so there will be many trade hits. I love it how SSFIV game play will be very aggressive

And don’t forget Sagat is the only character (probably) who can connect to Ultra Combo after trading DP in SSFIV

Its rumored that you can still Ultra after trades in the corner.

I guess nerfing DP priority will just make timing them properly a little stricter, tbh I don’t think that’s really a worthwhile change, they’re so punishable they shouldn’t require strict timing to out-prioritise other moves imo.

I’d saying timing a DP correctly against something like Sagat’s j.mp is something like a 3 frame window, making this harder will just encourage more reckless jumping at lower levels I think. I’ve always thought anti-airing should be more effective in IV to encourage people to y’know, have some sort of ground game.

Welcome to the low tier world of AAing with ground normals. Of courses theres always EX DP if you have an absolute GTFOMN moment. But I think being able to safe jump DP characters now is a positive addition to the game.

Wait…wait…wait…When the fuck could you not safe jump Sagat?

You can see that they’re nerfing anti-airs(Sagat’s TU, Ryu’s srk, Cammy’s CS) across the board which is a welcome change IMO. This will definitely open up the game more … having strong anti-air options is such a big factor in SF4… players might actually try to jump-in and attack more now because the punish is not as effective as before… characters without a strong AA options are being jump-in all day so this actually even the fields a bit between the characters.

Yeah you can definitely safe jump Sagat. Only Ryu, Ken and Akuma are safe from safe jumps (well not anymore).
