My mother is british, and your statement seems racist. " I won’t be going to balrog/Hakan, I hate him for being Black/Arab ".
Sounds similar no ?
Exept the fact that Sagat had/has too many tool he didn’t need ( why Sagat has a f*cking overhead Oo ? ), I think it’s a simple marketing matter. New game / refresh / new top tiers.
So they’re nerfing the hell out actual top tiers, Sagat and Ryu.
Its called saracasm you serious poster. Why so serious? Fucking laugh once in a while instead of trying to be bad ass. I dont get offended when people say “I wont play Rufus because he is a fat, blond, white, blue eyed, American!” This is SRK. Either ignore things you dont like reading or please leave to Smashboards.
LOL I’m actually surprised how many Sagat players I’ve met IRL will be switching cuz he aint uber no more. Sad… cuz I actually gave them the benefit of the doubt that they playe the character because they liked his design or whatever. Call me naive.
Oh wells… I’ll be picking up other characters to be sure (Makoto and T.Hawk look good), but Sagat remains No.1.
That’s just it though. It’s not like Sagat’s plummeting to bottom tier or anything. I could understand if that were the case. But some of these people are jumping ship just because he’s not completely dominant anymore, which is something that irks me.
however its quite inane how so many people with the lack of character loyalty, have fought tooth and nails convincing people how sagat “aint all that” as if their attachment to the character was any more than a convenience
As someone who picked a mid tier that I like and then decided to try and master the character, its not my style, but I don’t let it bother me.
If someone wants to go and basically start over with a new character because Sagat dropped a bit, more power to them, because the learning curve resets with the new game AND the new character. They will have a bunch of catching up to do (most likely).
This. I find all of the hate regarding character swapping to be quite hilarious. This coming from the community that brought us the “play to win” attitude where one should do everything in their power to win. This reveals how rampant scrub-like mentalities still exist within a community that has taken a strong stance against scrubbery. I find it really interesting from a psychological perspective.
I’m fine with that personally, if there’s a character that’s better why not use him/her?
I personally don’t fully have character loyalty either well at least not for this game anyway. I’m loyal to the playstyle though, For example I play mostly shotos so I main ryu most of the time, if for some reason ken turns out better than ryu, i’ll main ken, because they have similar toolsets but if ones better than the other i’ll opt for the better one. Same for all the playstyles, if one person can rushdown better than another I’d use that character.
I find it easier that way because even if I do change characters, I’m not completely learning a new character from scratch, since I’d be somewhat already familiar with how the character plays.
Does Sagat need an overhead ? Does Sagat need a cross up l.k ? Does Sagat need dumb priority on tiger knee ? Does Sagat need his insane reach ( all the kara l.k ) ? Does Sagat need safe l.k tiger knee ?
No.
He’s a wall, and the best defensive character in the game. And since he is, his gameplan only require this :
Good fireball zoning.
Good AA.
Good Keep away normal move.
Good Health.
Good Ultra set up.
Good reversal and good Damage.
And he has ( had huhu ), the best fireball zoning in the game, one of the best ( if not THE best ) Anti Air, very good keep away move ( c.mp, c.Hp, F.Hk ), 1100 stamina, second best Ultra set up in the game, one of the best reversal moves, and he does INSANE damage.
That’s far enough for a defensive character.
So why with the crazy other stuff his gameplan DOESN’T NEED ?
Next time you talk, learn your basic. Overhead and all the other Sagat superficial move, has to do everything with his overpowerness.
So in my strict opinion, instead of removing some of his tool, designer made Sagat pay for his versatility. He still can be a wall, and a pressure monster, but took away insane damage and other dumb thing who can make it overpowered.
If Sagat players had confidence in their mind game, footsies, and execution, there would be far less complaining. This is not the case. Seems to me the majority of Sagat players depend on the easiest most powerful combos in the game and a little luck.
