Sagat Improvement Thread

Honestly, I played around with the idea that his Power Up would buff his Ultra, but I was just daydreaming.

However, if that shit makes it into the game… I will main Sagat.

What is the frame data on his crouch strong?

Seems like it could have potential, but its going to be harder to use than a standing short that has insane range.

Dunno about the frame data (I’m sure EmblemLord could help out here), but I know from play experience that cr.MP just doesn’t have the immediacy of st.LK.

Yeah, and as a strong attack it probably shouldn’t. However, you should get more active frames, and more damage. And if its like many crouch strongs, it should be cancelable into lots of things.

So yeah, it won’t replace st.lk by any means, because now it involves more risk and has to be timed better…but you have short.tk if you need an immediate, safe poke that destroys all and knocks down.

st. lk. I don’t see how non-cancel loses its effectiveness as a poke. You’re just not getting the damage you use to in SFIV. His cr. strong could be an alternative, but it’s slower than st. lk.

There’s a few Sagat players I know that are pissed about st. LK losing it’s cancelability. I don’t play Sagat but watching them and especially matches from Japan, it is (was) a very good tool. For example I didn’t even realize this but apparently almost any blocked slide from Blanka (even from usually safe ranges) can be punished by st. LK xx tiger shot.

^^ Indeed. It’s actually a big deal and really adds to his pressure. As a poke it WOULD be fine, but by itself the damage isn’t threatening enough to deter an opponent from trying to just walk up into Sagat’s face or try to poke right back at him and get a little bit more bold then if he could cancel into it.

Also low strong? hahahha. That has the same range as Sagat’s low jab. In terms of range it doesn’t even come close. The next best thing is stand jab which has surprisingly good range, but it’s still less then stand short.

Also since someone asked for frame data, low strong is actually one frame faster then stand short when short is fully spaced. low strong being 5 frames adn fully spaced short being 6 frames. So lk isn’t all that fast. It’s mostly the range and cancelability that makes it good.

does anyone know or have a list so far for SSF4 Sagat changes?

I do, but it’s in the toilet with the rest of the things that come out of my ass.

All questions are answered, and debates settled there.

Stop Hating on Sagat

i usually don’t get involved with pettines but I had to get this off of my chest. I’m tired of all the crybabies who sit an take the time to **create threads ** in order to make Sagat players look bad or noobish. I am a Sagat player and I play him because I like him and I used to be a muy thai fighter so I like his style. Not just because he is strong.

Capcom is taking the concern about Sagat’s stamina and damage seriously and I don’t have a problem with that but his move set needs to remain the same. So I’m asking for all legit Sagat players who play him because they like him and not for any other reason to start standing up for Sagat. I would like to see a serious thread for the improvement of Sagat that doesn’t get overrun by trolls who cry because they can’t beat good sagat players.

As some players said, just because you use a low tier character doesn’t mean that you are not a noob or you have better skills than all Sagat player. Face it, most of you trolls use Sagat and other characters as an excuse for your constant failure in Street Fighter 4. When Super comes out I’ll still be Sagat he’ll be nerfed and you will still lose to me. What will you say then?! Capcom didn’t do their job?

So if there are any players that want to play against my Sagat hit me up. i don’t mind losing neither should you cause it will make us better.

SAGAT PLAYERS RISE!

cool story bro

brool story co.

the only impression you get of players that main sagat that come in here to whine about people whining is that they aren’t terribly talented with the character himself, or don’t care to be if some of his “top-tier” tools are removed

I think I might have played this guy a while back. If he’s the guy I played he was terrible. Not sure though.

I’m only in this thread because there is no Ibuki thread.

Not too much longer hopefully!

Looks like SSF4 Sagat will still dominate… Angry Scar is apparently a good trade off for having less damage/health lol. Keno says it gives him invincibility on ALL his moves. Take a second to think about that. Accoring to him Seth Killian says Sagat players will prefer SSF4 Sagat to Vanilla Sagat. Apparently two of the newly revealed characters are looking like they’ll hang with Sagat at the top.

I want vids of this Angry Scar in action… word of mouth is all well and good, but I wanna see how the properties of his moves change when he activates it.

At the vegas fightclub we saw it activated…and then nothing…no super armor, whatever. i dont get what invincibility on all his moves means. i cant block??? i mean if i just stand there a tiger shot will hit me no matter what. tiger uppercut already has invincibility on startup. if tiger knee got invincibility on startup, then maybe that’d be a good buff for him…but other than that i really dont see what invincibility on all of his moves even means. my only guess is that maybe his next uppercut is totally unpunishable or something…if i recall didnt s.kill say something along the lines of the stored EX bar simply boosting the damage of the next uppercut he lands? that makes more sense. in the fightclub footage i saw nothing different about sagat after angry scar, and it didnt seem like any of the players could tell either.

who knows though, its just that keno’s words were really vague and could basically mean anything.

You can see Sagat’s new move used throughout these two footage, but it’s not obvious what it does exactly. In the 2nd link at 2:24 mark you can see T.Hawk’s st.hk during startup frames right as Sagat does “Angry Scar” only to get hit by it as soon as the EX flash ends so it’s not clear whether this moves makes him invincible to attacks during its animation – if T.Hawk’s st.hk had been in its active frames when Sagat used the EX we would know for sure, but not from how it played out in that footage.

Also from that 2nd footage at 1:33 Sagat uses the Angry Scar and a second later tigeruppercuts T.Hawk out of the air; T.Hawk only had about 5 - 7% health left but the dmg from the Tigeruppercut still didn’t kill him. If Angry Scar powers up Sagat’s next Tigerupper, then the dmg boost is laughable if we’re going by this footage.

Reducing Sagat’s health and dmg output is a serious nerf and to think that somehow this new move of his can offset those … well it’s clearly not apparent from the footages floating around (although admittedly developers may have changed this since then as well as the people playing Sagat in said footages being pretty bad).

I’m more interested whether it’s 100% confirmed Sagat can/cannot cancel far st.lk into low TS.

Also Seth has said in the past that none of the characters were getting nerfed and that everyone would be getting buffed. We all know better by this point. As of now any statements regarding supposed nerfs not being bad at all I just take as a marketing ploy, and when players claim certain things it needs to be taken with a grain of salt as they aren’t afforded a huge amount of playtime and testing (let alone with any one particular character for any length).
