I really only think they need to do two things to Sagat:
1 - lower his damage overall a little.
2 - take away the stupidity which is { st.HK | trade TU xx } -> f.HK -> Ultra. I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen Sagat outplayed only to win because of this alone.
YES!!! At least not when he can TU trade to ultra! So let me get your logic correct. You are playing against a sagat… for that matter, out playing him. He’s just standing there, and you then think, “Hmm, I see that he has full ultra, and so if I jump in at him, there is a good chance that not only will I eat an anti air, but it is likely that it could lead to over 500 damage if I do decide to jump in at this point.” So, you then decide to jump in.
Let me ask you this, aren’t you at least a little upset at yourself for making that stupid decision??? When you see that trade, don’t you think that maybe you should have just FADC through one of those tiger shots? or just blocked it and taken that chip damage? Or do you just say, “Well, he’s broken, there is nothing that I could have done differently/better there.” Don’t blame the character design when you make a bad choice.
That would be why Coth said 2 - take away the stupidity which is { st.HK | trade TU xx } -> f.HK -> Ultra.
Here’s what you just did.
“Sagat shouldn’t be able to trade TU into ultra.”
“Yes he should, because you shouldn’t be jumping at Sagat.”
“Why not?”
“Because he can trade TU into ultra.”
200 DMG uppercut that flys above the screen - check
2.500-600 dmg Ultra off trade tu, fadc tu, ex tu - check
a kick that covers a 1/3 of the screen - check
a kick that pulls you in for a free ultra - check
a move that flys halfway across the screen and bashes you in the nuts with his knees that never loses out if you are airborn…check
I personally, wouldn’t jump at this guy. Jumping at Sagat is like a last ditch effort, its like plan D. Plan D as in Plan Desperation. All characters have this and when it comes down to this its because he shut down A-C. I will jump at him only if hes gotten knocked down, and it will be safe or a cross up.
What ARE you talking about?? Both players make decisions that result in them taking damage all round long, they’re not by definition ‘bad’ decisions per se. Yes you should be punished for picking the losing option (that is the game after all) but not completely F’d in the A for it. Especially when a trade TU is a screw up on their execution any way jeez. That’s like saying if you walk into Ryu’s low forward you’re stupid and you deserve to eat 600 damage every time.
Now that is crazy talk. There are TONS of safe jump setups on Ryu off a forward throw for many characters. I think almost everyone in the cast has at least one off a forward throw. Shit, Chun has an UNBLOCKABLE safe jump setup with a guaranteed combo if she throws ryu in the corner and its not even hard to do.
Honestly I had kind of expected them to completely cut Sagats balls off. I mean, that’s what they did to Sean and Ibuki from 2i to 3s.
Seems they haven’t changed much.
Assuming they don’t change much else.
Not true to my understanding, there are safe jump setups where his SRK will whiff. Its not about 3 vs 4 frames its about hitting in an ambiguous fashion so that when his SRK comes out, it come out on the wrong side. If you look in the chun forums there are actually lots of these setups. You can also visit OHT’s youtube channel for a tutorial on some of the most useful ones. These are all Chun specific, but I know that there are some for other characters too.
In fact, Skatan just posted yet ANOTHER one today, that makes like 12 that I have seen.
