You guys aren’t thinking hard enough when you make these posts. Of course Boxer can make his Ultra set up safe on block. JAB JAB JAB anyone (the best hit confirm using normals in SFIV). What good Boxer player ever relies on naked headbutt to start ultra? That’s right none. Puerto Rico Balrog surely isn’t just throwing out EX headbutts like messiah kicks to combo into Ultra. That shit’s for BalrogPlayerXBL. Boxer easily makes his headbutt safe by only using it after hit confirming jabs. So rog can just throw jabs on the screen that poking wise beat everything in the game and then when 2 or more hit press buttons into ultra that you’ll never miss. Though at least with rog u are forced to hit confirm and you can’t use jabs to reverse out of blockstrings. Either way rog gets to use a mechanic that people have been using for years to combo into his ultra safely. Which for anyone who was playing SF seriously before SF Lego Edition…is easy as fuck. You can’t play ST, 3rd Strike and CVS2 competitively and look at that combo and go “man he really had to put shit together on that”. The problem is characters like ryu and sagat have ways to combo into ultra that are unbelievably even easier.
I mean this game is literally the Smash Bros. of SF with how easy it is to just spin shit around on the stick and make things happen and how long you get to hit confirm things after the situation. Like Uppercut FADC Ultra isn’t even a hit confirm. Especially with Sagat. U just mash and u get three years to tack on Ultra. Like that shit was difficult when people didn’t understand all of the game’s shortcuts when the game first came out. Now that people know they can Mortal Kombat input uppercuts and mash in the FADC command with it the shit is too free especially when you get 9 years to hit Ultra afterwards.
I have a problem with Rog too. His jabs are crazy vicious. But I really don’t like getting hit by that EX lunge punch where he hits with the bottom of his fists and links into jabs->Headbutt->Ultra. That’s just nonsense IMO. I’m always blocking high now against Balrog once he gets Ultra lol…
I dunno how you really nerf rog though. He’s not op, but some stuff does feel really really easy. Everyone’s input is gonna be relatively easy compared to older games, so I’m just waiting to see what crazy stuff other characters get. Sagat/Ryu/Rog/Gouki/Rufus are gonna stay monsters no doubt. Easy combos, easy ultra setups, simple to get really good with in general. Gouki is just had so many tools so his mix-up is heavenly.
More specialized characters like Gen or Viper or Guile need IMO to have a really really good goto move. Every character can’t be as well balanced as the top 4, and have these amazing hit confirm/easy ultra setups. So I’m think that the lower tier crowd should get a specialized buff in there move set. Viper of course would become a much more rewarded attacker. Guile having his Blade kick not suck/Ultra not suck, and being more rewarded for patiently tearing his opponents to pieces. I think Ken falls here to, why pick Ken when you have Ryu and Akuma? He should be a quicker, weaker Ryu specialized in something. If it’s not gonna be his srk, then buff his mix-ups and Tatsu.

To improve sagat, he needs to be toned down slightly, as i hear they are doing. This would make him fair and therefore a better character in my opinion. I mained sagat for a month or two but changed because the wins weren’t mine, they were sagats.

As a Chun player, the insane window given to shoto players on their ultra juggles is beyond stupid.
At the least, the juggle timing should require more precise timing (see Abel’s ultra juggle of c.fierce) to hit correctly.
^^^ That’d be nice. They really need to make DP’s unsafe if blocked though even if they’re FADC’d. Having safe invincible reversals that can lead to ultra is pretty stupid. They should be more punishable if anything.

Also make sagat’s s.hk hit 10 times, with NO scaling. Yeah…yeah thats it…and make his ultra like the one in sf ex, where it branches out into multiple animations and finishes. And a tatsu knee type move that is unblockable while he’s firing out tigershots. And make cyclops his assistant character that finishes his ultraa with Optic Array. Then he will be improved in my eyes. Also give him fei’s dash. And abels TT. And give him the strength gem.
Sagat should get the laser beam from Street fighter the movie arcade game. It would help him be very balanced.:tup:

I don’t really think the difficulty in timing an ultra is that much a problem. I used to miss Chun’s ultra like, 80% of the time but the more you play, the more you’re just gonna do it without thinking.
Besides, that’s not even looking at the problem correctly. Say Metsu Hadouken or Tiger Rape Your Bitch Ass had stricter timing. It doesn’t stop the fact that it and probably most of its applications are still possible. Making it harder might seem like you’re giving the character “depth” but really, you’re just dealing with the same shit.
I get the feeling that people bitching about these juggles just want to find more reasons to hate on FADC ultra (I don’t condone it but let’s not waste our time on criticizing things that really don’t matter)
Well the timing to set up Ultra after a hit confirm combo/special is superfluous at this point because a new game is coming out and a lot of things regarding the timing/hit boxes for hitting Ultras after combos will be changed. No one’s arguing that stricter Ultra timing after FADC would make the game any better. That’s a retarted argument. Obviously the shit to set up the Ultra is so braindead easy that the easy timing to land the Ultra is icing on the cake and really doesn’t fucking matter. Your character was already better when he got a safe shoryu that landed into Ultra to begin with.
FADC Ultra is fine. Shoryu FADC Ultra is stupid ass shit no matter how much meter it requires. It’s not game breaking but that’s where SFIV fails. Everyone sees balance as “none of the characters are broken so it’s good”. SFIV with Ryu being the only selectable character would be a perfectly balanced game. Doesn’t mean it’s good. When the potential exists to limit pretty much all characters’ options to block or turtle for the remainder of the time you’re sitting on meter…that isn’t allowing smart play. If the opponent knows you have an option that will beat everything you do and will set them up for Ultra they aren’t going to do anything but sit back at the far end of the screen and hope you waste your meter on something else.
Though again…Super could change that. Really interested in what Capcom has done to fix the shoryu FADC.
They’ll probably fix it by giving it to everyone.
People are saying that Sagat has lost 50 HP and his tiger uppercut does slightly less damage. I watched the stream and laughed my ass off when people picked Sagat, because all the scrubs were screaming shit like “FUCK YOU SCRUB!” and “DSP IS PISSED!” and stuff like that, but I watched Sagat closely and I admit, it seems that the damage output on his TU is slightly, I mean slightly toned down, but all of his bnb combos including his fadc, step kick, ultra work and do a ton of damage.
I couldnt tell if he had lost 50 HP, not that 50 HP matters anyways. But as far as I can tell based off the stream, until I get the game or Capcom themselves declare otherwise, Sagat is still Sagat. So I expect an entire year more of scrub rage about Sagat…and perhaps Adon.

Anyoone knows what happened? It looks like he is going for the ultra cause the screen goes darker and then nothing happens and it uses 1 stock. Can you bait your opp by having him think you are going to ultra and then punnish. Does any other character have this in SSF4?

I think it’s called Tiger Balm. I don’t know what stat it actually boost though. Still a stat boost for the cost of one ex bar is a small price to pay IMO. This has me intrigued.
Might be similar to Tiger Charge in Alpha 3 where he could buff the power of his Tiger Uppercut in which case it wouldn’t be worth it. An overall stat boost would be much better.
