Sagat Improvement Thread

how about juggleable specials that trade will get knocked down. :coffee: pretty hard to combo an ultra if your back is on the ground. Could kill some momentum though… how about increase their hit stun so it’s harder to ultra after if at all?

I think Cammy can ultra off a traded cannon spike but I’ve never seen it in a match, cannon spike seems to trade for less and the timing to get her ultra out is far stricter. It would be good if Ryu/Sagat etc. had similar properties for their trades into ultra.

lol of course it can. Just a matter of the devs programming the code to recognize the situation. This could be accomplished any number of ways… either the opponent gets reset instead of juggle state, or the fighter that is srk’ing gets knocked down on trade, or even simply disabling the hitbox of the fighter in a juggle state on trade the same way the game does if a move that normally has juggle properties happens to dizzy the opponent.

I like how ts has the title “scrub killer” and yet he comes here and does a sagat buff thread…did I just get mindfucked?

Now look here, if you’re going to take away Sagat’s Ultra setup (which actually takes a little skill to pull off), then you’re going to also have to pull Rufus’s * -> Ultra, Ryu’s Easy-Mode SRK -> Ultra, and Balrog’s braindead Headbutt -> Ultra.

I will agree on modifying f. LK and f. HK a bit, but just enough to make two in the same combo for the latter difficult. And kara-knees, kara uppercuts and kara-shots are just ludicrous with the former. Allowing him that much range is just… NOT what Sagat’s about (though if they remove this, I would want a… maybe 10% increase to walk speed. Even Zangief gets away faster than Sagat can walk in).

2 problems with this:

1.) it takes no skill. any idiot who takes the game seriously enough to be able to hit combos and not mash like a moron can do it.

2.) the main difference between what sagat can do compared to all those characters is one very large factor: damage.

imho the main difference between Boxer’s ultra setup and Ryu’s/Sagat’s imho is a combination of damage and safety with the FADC. Rufus has to spend three bars to make his completely safe which definitely hurts considering how much he relies on having meter, and Boxer can’t even make his safe on block.

The “issue” isn’t how hard these things are to do, it’s what leads into them and how much damage they do. For example, if you make it so that Boxer has to FADC his headbutt in order to combo into ulta and make it slightly harder, you’ve just given him a safe(er) reversal!

Having a safe DP that leads to at least 40% damage in a game with a large reversal window = $$$

Just change the TU so that on trade, both players get knocked down.

Sagat would be able to quickstand immediately, so he’d still have the advantage of the opponent’s knockdown, but he wouldn’t be able to juggle with ultra.

Problem solved.

It’s really hard to reply to this thread without being very sarcastic.

I’m so tempted to a make a very long list of buffs that would make Sagat have nothing but 10-0 match ups, but I’m sure that somewhere in the almost 400 posts before me on this thread that it has been done before. Probably several times.

My honest suggestions:

  1. Tone down the damage of forward Heavy Kick and J.Fierce.
  2. Foward Heavy Kick shouldn’t juggle into another forward Heavy Kick, but if the damage is reduced it can stay.
  3. Make his health 1000 and stun 1000 or increase each other character’s health a bit. I think the fact Sagat has 10% more health is the most homo thing ever.

As far as his specials go, they should stay the way they are. It takes higher level Sagat play to keep Tiger knee safe. He should remain a tiered character without a doubt.

The issue I think while in this game every character can win, the learning curve with Sagat is so low that a decent player who’s never touched Sagat can consistantly 5/5 another player’s main character just from higher damage and health ratings.

Sagat is just awesome to newbies, awesome to intermediate, and awesome to experts. I think that’s why he has so much hate. I really did hate him when I first started playing. But going regularly with Emblem Lord, I beat most of the scubby sagats with ease. I’, still not comfortable fighting a Sagat at all, and I’m usually playing defensively trying to capitalize n a mistake which is just boring. Sagat really limits lower tier characters options, (I’m a Ken btw) and I’m just hoping he gets those slight nerfs that Ultradave mentioned.

Ryu is almost equally as good, he has a great tool for just about every situation. But my palms are sweating for fear of messing up when I’m playing Ryu lol. The room for error is so small, you have to play a boring Ken against Sagat, so for the sake of me having a good time, I hope he’s a little nerfed;) n

No disrespect to Sagat players. I’m not saying he doesn’t require skill. but he doesn’t have a “win” button. He is the freakin button lol…

Just give hime one 0-10 matchup with dan, and people can just counter pick him. Then it doesn’t matter if he beats everyone else, since he can’t beat the orginal SF joke character. :smile:

The fact you can trade SRK, go make a cup of coffee, take a shit and read the paper, walk the dog, then come pack to your stick and input the Ultra and still have it land is the problem. The window is way too long.

Oh and Sagat needs more SRK > FADC > Cait Sith’s Game Over Limit Break.

Give him a jet pack and a bazooka.

Give Sagat more laughing taunts like his #5.
