Sagat Changes should be posted tonight

Haha it’s cool, thanks for all the information you’ve posted so far, and quick reply. I thought you lived in japan for some reason, until I just looked at your location. I heard Viet was a sagat player, I don’t know if the people in the stream chat were trolling or not. If they weren’t, what does he think about sagat and his matchups?

I honestly think ken might end up a harder match than akuma. If not, just as hard. Although, with the added damage, who knows.

I can’t wait until sanford starts playing.

No he’s just a Ryu/Akuma player. He seems to deal with Sagat just fine considering how he dealt with Sanford in the earlier version of the game. No other Sagat players actually existed in Texas anymore after vanilla and for a while the closest thing to a solid Sagat was just Hsien playing casuals.

I main Sagat in Vanilla but not super sagat and I am still doing very well with him. To me the super Sagat is a waste of time, AE version is more similar to his Vanilla version. Vanilla release in 2008, and super release in April 2010. You really think those who are new to him a few months ago have more experience than those with at least 2 years experience?

I mean fundamentally his tool set is very similar to super, it’s just been buffed up to where shit doesn’t constantly get beat out. If you can manage to not play like an idiot/constant vanilla tiger knee pressure, then whatever you did in super should work now.

I think the only sagats who are going to be able to compete at the highest level from vanilla only to ae will be the japanese sagats who only played vanilla arcade and are grinding out ae in the arcades now .

A sagat with good SF fundamentals could make the jump from vanilla to AE.

All the people that played him on auto pilot in vanilla because of his tier would have to put in some real work if they want to play him successfully again.

Oh yeah I forgot one more thing that I noticed was really important. After reading how a lot of the people who played charge characters were complaining, I remembered something important against Guile. Upon my wake up game, if Guile threw out a sonic boom close by, my uppercut would go past him and would not be affected by the sonic boom behind my hitbox. Guile was also sent into a counterhit state. Now I already knew about how fireball characters would be sent into a counterhit state upon being hit on their recovery, but the fact that I didn’t get knocked out by the sonic boom behind the uppercut hitbox meant there’s more invincibility somewhere in it.

I do it all the time in vanilla and super LOL. Sagats just had that much invincibility on his uppercut from where the wakeup kinda state thingy. i know for sure i did it in vanilla, and im 95% sure i did it once or twice in super… LOLOL… but yeah thanks anyways

Eh, I remember being beaten out more often in Super with a set up like that. But yeah, played again today since I couldn’t get enough. The more and more I play the character, the more I believe he is top tier in this game. So many match ups that went from slightly towards the opponent or even are feeling like they are in my favor again such as Balrog.

damn lol… i main ryu and 2ndary sagat… and im like really leaning towards sagat in AE the more i play with RYU LOLOL in super… o.O and the more i hear about his nerfs in AE … >< all i can say is i wont know 100% till i actually get to play it huh… ><

ps, hows the ryu matchup for u in AE, shld be abit easier cuz of tatsu nerf and sagat buff lolol…

Can anyone who has been playing ae let me know their impression on his normals? I was really hoping that cl. st. mp would get buffed with better frame advantage. Does his oh feel the same or maybe faster? Does his oh have more hitstun? Less pushback? Can you cancel st. hk after more than one cr. lk? Just a few examples. It would be great to get an evaluation of his normals. Thanks.

Sagat is the fourth most played character in AE for Japan, so far. I believe he’s eighth for BP average.

What do y’all suppose the reason is? Is it 1) because so many vanilla arcade players played Sagat already, skipped super since it was on consoles, and now naturally make the jump to AE sagat or 2) because AE sagat is a lot higher tier than super sagat?

both theories are valid.

Those might work, but I doubt the first theory(on a larger scale).

If many people play a game religiously at the Arcades there is little doubt in my mind they wouldn’t pick up the latest iteration of the series. There are a number of amazing Sagat players in Japan from what i’ve seen in the replay channel, I’m sure they were also Arcade players.

In my honest opinion Super has a lot to do with the success of Sagat( in the early stages of AE). Sagat in Super forced you to learn every single tool at his disposal to be effective. You were literally forced to learn Sagat completely to compete with much of the caste. In AE everyone claims he is better, that added strength just piles on top of the knowledge gained by grinding it out with Sagat.

Just my two cents.

Sagat has a lot of good tools especially now that people are finding ways to use his angry scary in tricky ways to deal with certain matchups. Now that he actually does damage again and LK tiger knee is worth something he sounds like a solid pick for an arcade environment where not spending 10 dollars in the span of 2 hours is important.

Yeah… Angry scar so far is pretty much only good v Balrog for ex dash punches IMO… im sure the Japanese at AE will find out some more practical uses though.

Sagat is finally not pointless anymore… now for the UK to get their hands on AE!

I think canada should get it first hehehe. Btw i think ive seen u on YT a couple times man. Lovely sagat =]

did they make lk knee safe on block? or what change did they make?

I believe they shortened the distance for it. It doesn’t go as far as I remembered it did from SSFIV to AE. As for frame advantage, I’m not too sure since the knees are generally only good depending on the distance given for the block stun. All I know from testing it so far is that using light knee will generally hit at the tip in a short distance rather than going through the whole two hit string that leaves you in disadvantage.

Music, meet ears.

KSK: What about Dhalsim? His damage output seems to have been nerfed.

Nemo: Dhalsim is hurting too. His damage has been reduced, and his hit boxes have changed. It?s almost as if his jumping MP no longer has an active hit box.

Also, Mago said Sagat will definitely be top tier.
