Hi, I’m totally new to SSF4, and I was wondering If Sagat is a good starting character for noobs?
If he’s not, what character would you guys recommend?
Thanks.

Ryu is where most start, but Sagat has a pretty simple move set to learn. I think most characters are noob friendly. My suggestion is to go through the trial mode and whoever you can complete the most challenges with would be a good start. Or whoever you like their move set is one you should stick to for a while.
Wouldn’t recommend him, slow movement which takes a while to get used to, kara shotting, his footsies really need work. As already recommended Ryu is the ideal starter. If you’re very comfortable with Ryu then move on to other characters. That’s what I did when I first played SF. Many people started out from Ryu and branched onto others.
A lot of pro players suggest Ryu and Bison. Ryu forces you to use all your tools to succeed, which Sagat needs badly. Bison FORCES you to learn footsie’s.
Hope this helps
Aside from Hakan Sagat is the hardest character to play in the game period. Every other character in the game is going to have fast high priority normals for to use while you learn the timing and spacing for your specials. Sagat’s best normal moves are average compared to what others have the rest are slow and low priority.
Do not start with him to learn the game
Hmm he’s slow but his moves/health/damage output make up for it i believe.
One of the harder characters are probably Viper and Gen imo.
he is a decent beginning character. start out with him if you like.
Sagat’s damage is low in this game. In a aggressive poking and anti fireball game like this is Gen and Viper are far easier choices to learn and win with.
go with ryu i think, he has alot of tools he can use.
What the fuck have you been smoking? Gen and viper? Viper the most executional character in the game and gen with his low health and stun plus stance changes in mid combos that require mastering? Both the hardest characters in the game to play/master
Seriously, think a little about what you post before doing it.
I play Gen and hell no he is not hard to win with. Part of the reason I play Sagat is because is the most challenging character to play I don’t do because its easy.
As far as Viper she is execution based but atleast her specials work and not just work link together for combos. Sagat on the other hand sees people dash, roll, and teleport through his fireballs all the time they might as well not even be there
I tried to read and make sense of your post, but i failed.
Im sorry, im just gonna open the door and step out quietely…
Geese stop posting please, I have been lurking this forum for a bit and the misinformation you post is garbage and annoying.
Sorry, what?
sagat guide?
just spam tiger shots n shit…you know…check youtube
Sagat is a really effective zoner. There was a match on cross counter when a Sagat player totally shut down a top SSFIV palyer Ill see if I can find it
Here is the video
i am sry but as a gen player who played gen since vanilla, what you are saying is wrong.
anyway i am also thinking of picking up sagat as a alt since i wanted a change of pace from gen. so far the matches i played have been rather fun. somehow it feels really good tricking people to jump or having them run into a tiger shot. also which sagat should i learn from watching videos. i know there is sanford but who else should i take a look at.
Huhu, Gen and Viper easy to play ? You’r trolling right ? They are soo difficult to play with (Gen in particular) (or maybe you are a golden handed guy, but note that the majority don’t have 3 hands and 25 fingers…)
Sagat is not so hard to beguin with, and his fire ball are extremly usefull. (But they tend to be less usefull when your opponent is good) You says that a lot of people can pass through it, but, if you are not predictable, you can punish easily all of them.
And I think his dragon is good : good anti-air and punish easily un-safe move. And cause his dragon is very more unsafe that ryu’s or ken’s, you learn to not spam it ^^
But I agree with il0veb00ty : trial mode for try a little every char and play which you prefert. (you learn to play, and that give information about the othe chars for the match up)
Can someone literally teach me to understand how to play as Sagat? I can’t play well with him, and would like to get better.
