Safe to assume DLC for MvC3?

Allow me to say that I am all for DLC, even characters (although I can see how others would have problems with paying for them). In order to save money, I just won’t by $9 beers when I go to hockey games. Boom, problem solved.

Edit: I know I’m treating the issue simply and whimsically but it honestly just does not get to me like it seems to get to a lot of other people.

Let’s be realistic here for a second: the competitive and tournament scene is going to be a mess during the time period that Capcom is releasing DLC characters. There is probably a good chance that some character DLC will be released shortly before a major tournament, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Seth says in the interview below that there is always the possibility of a “Super” version (if MvC3 sells well enough). If you really don’t want to buy the DLC, I say hold off and see if we get the nearly inevitable upgraded version a year later that will have the DLC characters on a disc. That upgraded version will become the tournament standard version anyway, so if you are a competitive player you’ll have to buy it anyway.

Personally, I’m looking at MvC3 as “training wheels” until we get an upgraded version. I’ll buy it Day 1, practice and become proficient with all the on-disc characters, and cherry pick some DLC here and there if I really want it, all while biding my time until we get a new version. I can figure out match-ups somehow without resorting to purchasing characters I don’t want.

Sounds like what I plan to do.

A new character realistically would’t upset a tournament much since at that point in time, the character would be new and (unless they were mad broken) wouldn’t really be used since most players would likely be playing safe and sticking to the teams that they’ve been practicing with. Worst case, we see a few of new assists being used, which still bring the question, what happens when you’re down to that one new character facing off against a someone who’s practiced with his team for months.

As for a “Super MvC3” it should only be a disc copy with all the DLC content and nothing more. If it’s a big enough update to require a new disc release, they might as well call it MvC4 since that’s what it would be.

id rather them call it mvc4 than super mvc3. that shit just sounds gay

You may be right about how tournament play will be affected by DLC characters that are released shortly before, but I think your “worst case” scenario is too conservative. A worst case would be that a character is somewhat broken and certain exploits with that character are exposed during the tournament and it radically affects the outcome of that tournament. I’m not saying that is necessarily a bad thing in itself, but it can be possible for a DLC character to drastically shift the balance tournament play in the short-term (until after everyone else becomes more familiar with that character).

I also think your idea for a “Super” version is probably the best. It would be much like RE5 Gold: if you already have the disc, you can just buy any DLC you want. If you don’t, here is a disc with all DLC on it. It would also unite the community because all players could play against each other with either version and all DLC characters will be easily accessible.

I have a feeling that if they release a “Super”, they may try to add some balance tweaks and other goodies too just to make more people shell out $40 for the disc. If this game sells in a big way, Capcom is gonna milk it until its udders are saggy and deflated.

I don’t think there will be an updated re-release as none of the Marvel games before it never had one. The game itself is formatted to be updated with DLC so they don’t need to go the “Super” route and release it on a new disc. What I do see happening is the game receiving a “game of the year” edition a year after release with all the DLC on the disc. That’s standard for any game with heavy DLC support.

I doubt DLC characters will come off free if they decide to go for a Super. They can even be on the disc, but will remain DLC exclusive (like SF4 alternate costumes were kept). It’s more likely they become available in the case Capcom releases a GOTY edition one year later.

Some might cost a little
some might cost a lot

ahahahhaaa

I have no doubt there will be a MvC3 Gold edition, or whatever they decide to call it. I also have no doubt SSFIV will get the same treatment, a disc with all the costumes and whatever else comes with Arcade Edition.

TvC went from Cross generation of Heroes to Ultimate All Stars.

I assume MvC3 is going to be like…MvC3: fate of the two worlds! into MvC3: Dimensional Travesty or whatever.

I hate the fact that they pushed the released date forward JUST to make us pay extra for characters that were probably going to be in the final game anyway. You can’t tell me that its coincidence that it went from may, march, whatever it was to February and announce that we will have to pay for pieces of the game. DLC characters later in the year would have been fine, because they were not intended to be in the final game, but now they are basically saying “HEY, were not putting them in the final game, we are making you pay extra” I know Capcom saw $$, but the fact that they are purposely leaving them out is a big fuck you to the people who buy the game. They KNOW that they will not have the final version. I think they shoud create DLC for characters that aren’t already in the game, like X, or power stone characters, rather than making us pay for those intended to be in the final game anyway.

I’ll LOL if every character that was announce from nycc and up end up being DLC characters.

I sorry, but WHERE THE FUCK ARE PEOPLE GETTING THESE RETARDED RATIONALIZATIONS FROM.

Tell me, when has Capcom EVER released multiple versions of a game in the vs series besides TVC ( Which by the way was to get people who imported the game already to buy it again)

You’re talking as if they wouldn’t even consider it. Unless you’re on that executive board you can’t say with certainty they won’t even if they never have in the past.

CvS2?

Wait…wtf? So your telling me to hold of until Super MVC3 comes out? Thats retarded. They made a game. Stick with. Now im worried how both games will be treated like patches and shizz. But thats kind of weird they would do that. so now im assuming they wont have alot of dlc. was hoping they would break the amount mvc2 had. so now what do i do? wait or buy…

Even if that’s the case, i’d gladly pay extra to get the game two months earlier than originally anticipated. Hell, if I was approached by capcom and they said I could have the game right now if I paid $200 instead of $60, i’d fucking do it.

Lol Shoutzula is right. Some of the posts in this forum about “Super MVC3” <Most retarded shit i’ve ever seen by the way, you guys are asking for Capcom to nickel and dime you.

Stay free SRK

It was actually a heavily rebalanced and updated port.

A lot of people don’t know this but the original TvC was just as “broken” as MvC2 in terms of infinites and high, low, and cross-under mixups.

We never got a release from Capcom until now. Those other dates came from retailers. Release date info from a retailer is highly unreliable.

Your jumping to conclusions with the DLC. Can’t say for sure until it becomes available
