Safe Jump / Option Select Guide

Is there any safe jump setup useful against Yun?..

yea, yun has at best a 4 frame dp (EX) And if memory serves his Light DP is 5 frames, so at all times you are able to safe jump him.
his EX Grab also isn’t invincible like others so yeah go nuts. just make sure you’re nailing the timing

Just be careful with the OS Slide. U sorta gotta guess on whether he’s gonna backdash or DP, but the good news is you have a guaranteed punish if you do guess right, whereas some others can FADC their reversal if you block it.

I am pretty sure there is an os that beats both the block, dp, and backdash options, but it’s a 1f link IIRC.

if it’s anything it’s OS-ing EX FBA. I cant think of anything else that has enough range to catch backdash but still beat DP (and even EX FBA i doubt beats DP)

Against Joz, you have to constantly change your mindset. He adjusts too fucking fast for me. But if you’re going to beat him you have to play safe on defense, and safe on offense cause he wont miss a punish. And so far out of all the thing’s I’ve done against Joz at the start of a round. Sitting there has been the most successful.

Neutral jump into CH trying to catch a CH yourself- you get hit with CH
CH at the start - you get hit with CH
sMK - you get hit with CH

Eventually, I’ll find an answer without having to do random ST… Now i wonder if he takes a step back when doing that.

We live in the same city.
Our scene has like 2 tournies a week, and he takes it for a year straight now.

Applying couple of the things that jozhear mentioned here (thanks by the way) vs fei long:

  • bnb, ex fba, whiff crmp, jump hk os stand hk, combo.

Beats every wakeup option. Dp blocked. Backdash, ex chicken wing, lk chicken wing punished.

  • cosmic heel, hk st, immediate backdash, jump mp os far mk, combo.

Beats everything. Dp blocked. Ex chicken wing stuffed. Lk chicken wing trades 1st hit in ur favor.

Can you do a video of this?
I really want to use some OS.
I know how it works, but I just can’t pull it out.

Sorry vegaman, but ur statement doesnt make any sense. What I posted is a safe jump option select setup.

From setup1 that I mentioned:

On hit/block: bnb ending in ex fba,Whiff crmp, jump hk, combo of ur choice. (no combo if he dps, u block it)
On whiff (fei backdahses, ex chicken wing, lk chicken wing): bnb ending in ex fb, whiff crmp, jump hk, stand hk.

if you hit CH by the tip (from point blank crmk, crmp, to space it… cosmic heel), HK ST, immediate backdash, jump mp…

safe vs 3f reversals. tested all dps lp/mp/hp/ex (ken and ryu). :sweat:

i was actually showing the feilong setup that i mentioned in an ealier post to my bro (mains ken) and by just looking at it he said damn this looks safe vs 3fs. so we took out the OS part and tested vs ryu. and he was like damn this shouldnt work on ken too. lol.

maybe you should test wakeup crmk. ken could potentially avoid it (could be situational depends on the CH spacing).

other than cr mk, cr mk what else u use to set up the spacing…

First, thanks for the good work you have been pulling out here (or in your blogs), specially Francys Pai, Majin, Jozhear & Vegaman.

I’ve been using safe-jumps for quite a long time now, starting from Françys Pai’s blog’s setups, and was half satisfied with them. I mean, the setups were great, but i was wanting to use my safe-jumps on everyone, and not just on > 4, 5 or even 6 framers reversals.

So I modified the setups so that they would all fit to 4 framers, and so that it would be possible to « fake-jump » even 3 framers.

— cLK instead of cMK after an izuna drop
— sLP instead of cMK/backdash after an ST (or CH-ST most of the time)

The idea is that if you’re facing a shoto, you could choose during the jump either you want it to be a real jump (by late triggering the normal) or an empty one (by early triggering it). Like this, there wouldn’t be the 3 frames of recovery which prevents you to block a shoryuken. And for this i needed setups which really did hit on the last frames… which wasn’t the case with cMK (specially after ST).

I’ve made a video explaining it.

It’s not a lot of things compared to what you guys did before, but maybe it can help. =)
