Ding ding ding ding ding. Give this man a slurpee.
Good lord, I was going to ask a question, but Art has a queue of like 50 questions already.
Subscribed for the interesting information that may arise.
Sabin, in your opinion, how do America’s top players stack up in the Japanese scene? Are there any interesting or niche aspects of the game that America/Japan has more development in than the other? What do you think of Japanese Boxers compared to American Boxers in terms of style/skill?
lol this
Sim mirror matches sure do show who’s the better Sim.
:xeye:
Yo Art…
They got Pringles in any of the vending machines out there?
Hey Art, why are you so fucking hype? I mean, what’s good? What’s really good?
Are the Japanese Rogs as bad as they say? somehow i dont believe that theyre worse than our rogs
hell yeah they do
they also have cheese dog flavor
ok before everyone asks…no japan doesnt play console mostly and we DO have a shitton of arcades. its not that japan doesnt want to play console, but why play console when theres 1029298829x arcades here? keep in mind i do want to play my seth here but its really hard to set it up for the aforementioned reasons above.
mostly they are pulling tricks i havent seen yet…unless you are here to see them. see, i dont really like when people judge japanese play based off vids because they represent like 1% of japanese play overall and its like 1 match.
because theyre just as good as us if not better? justin and marn didnt get raped at first round @ sbo, but its really tough to win here.
send me a camera and i will be happy to record matches
us players dont share info. japan players talk about why said playr lost and how they can lose, thats the main difference.
cause i have yellow fever. gonna cockblock marn and get her to be wifey status. IM IN THAT ASS
ameriken is black and hangs with a lot of the top players.
guile is a tough match for sim in general, the match is really grueling. they will match fireballs with me and get edge closer to me and tain me to throw fireballs…then they get 1 combo on me and turtle the rest of the round lol
didnt talk to them, i need a translator to really ask them questions.
i do good against all abels here except ac revenger. imo ac revenger > VER > shiro
damn right
iyo has more experince matchup wise than i do. he has more exp fighting low tiers which is the main difference. he got sonned by viper @ sbo which made me hella sad, though
japanese boxers are better than ppl think they are. like i said people base TOO much off match vids.
played against aojiru guile and hes not far behind compared to say justins boxer.
lol exactly. i always thought iyo was better than me and i feel hes the most skillful player in sf4 period.
no but they have them at convenience stores.
i gotta keep it hype to keep shit interesting. btw i saw kyle in japan and told him to tell u guys whats up! when u coming to japan sir?
they hella arent. were probably a mont h behind them (talking top players vs ours obviously.) the gap doesnt feel as impossible as say, 3s. people super good here but not unbeatable
This and what you said earlier about momochi’s Akuma made me realize why videos don’t tell the whole story. Like in your earlier post you mentioned after a knockdown momochi goes for a 3-way mixup. If one match of you between momochi and akuma were uploaded, we wouldn’t see the 3-way. We’d see him doing a crossup and that’s that. I’m sure great players would see the possibility of different mixups but scrubs (and visual learners) like me will just be like oh okay go for crossup after a knockdown, got it.
I now see how gaining info first hand and sharing them takes precedence over watching matches, Justin probably learned more about Ryu playing vs him in the EVO finals than anyone has watching 100+ Daigo vids.
Hey Arturo, what’s the japanese Honda gameplan vs Sim? Anything interesting in that match?
How good are Japan’s Honda’s? Is the Sim vs Honda free for Sim over there or do they have the match-up pretty figured out?
Hey Arturo, you think you could give me a ride to the break when you get back to amerika?
Sure! Its open to anyone of course.
I?m not Sabin of course, but maybe I can answer a few of these, help take the load off.
From what I?ve heard, most of the top players do own the game on 360 at least. I?m sure they use training mode or whatever, but since the arcade is still the standard most of them just keep going to the arcades. They play the home version when the arcade is closed or they can?t go for whatever reason.
But a lot of tactics and strategies were developed in the arcade before the home version was even available. Just think about Viper - all those ultra setups and cancel combos and juggles and super-jump burning kick strats were developed with no home version. Kinda crazy.
I got to play against Nuki at casuals at SBO, and I played next to Nemo for a few rounds at casual before the Shiozawa Cup.
SFIV Chun actually has a great toolset. She?s got a great mixup game, can get in fairly easily, can also play keep-away fairly well. The main difficulty with the character is that her options are all very specific to certain situations. For example, if Ryu jumps in at Chun with J.RH, depending on the distance and timing of the jump, Chun?s best options may change from S.MK, C.RH, C.MP, EX SBK, FA dash backwards, or just block it. As a Chun player, you have like half a second to figure out which option is best and use it.
Nemo and Nuki, they just knew. No hesistation, no mistakes. In this situation, use this. It?s the kind of knowledge you can only gain from a lot of experience with the character, as they have. Like many other Japanese players, they?re also really good at reading their opponents, as well as setting them up - baiting them into a specific response, and then countering with the best possible option. When I fought against Nuki, he kept getting me with sweep a lot. I had to take a moment and figure out that he was reading exactly when I was going to get up off DB and try to move forwards or backwards, and that?s when I was getting hit with sweep. He?d then safe jump in, and with my AA options pretty much null I tried backdashing to safety, but he?d already anticipated that and hit me with sweep as he landed.
They?re also really smart about meter usage. Meterless combos to start the fight, and so if they need to use it in clutch situations later on they have plenty. Plus, Chun with a full super bar takes away a LOT of options.
Nuki is really solid with his fundamentals, footsies, and spacing. He will just beat you methodically. Nemo is more or a risk taker. Chun has low vitality, so many people will try to be somewhat defensive with her late in the round to conserve health. Nemo will just go at you. Its not completely reckless - he does set up a lot of his attacks beforehand. I also noticed that Nemo will kind of take a beating for the entire first half of the round, and then just unleash a string of successful attacks and before you know it the round is his.
EDIT
Re: the post below, how did that rumor even start? I didn?t hear anything about any supposed announcement at SBO. SBO isn?t even a Capcom event, and there were plenty of other companies/games there, so it would have been weird/bad form for Capcom to take the stage there and be like ?Hey ya?ll! New game!?
The only thing Ono has said in recent weeks was at EVO, when he said ?I?d like to give you all a nice announcement, but we just finished the PC port, so give us a little more time.?
Sabin: What’s up man? I just wanted to ask you about the rumored announcement by Yoshinori Ono that never came to be this past weekend at Tougeki. Is there a sense by the fans/players that even though there was a possible change of plans by Capcom to announce a revision that there is indeed a SFIV dash in development currently? Where people surprised that nothing was announced? There doesn’t seem to be any interest in discussing why the promised announcement wasn’t made afterall, and what the implications of that are. Considering that SRK for one was intrigued about the announcement, Im surprised there really isn’t a main thread were people are mauling it over. Im wondering what people think about it over there, if at all.
yo Sabin, do the players over there blitz n shit all the time before they play like you do? How hard is it to find herb over there?
What’s the scene like in Japan? Like I know this isn’t to do with the game itself but like is there anyone or a group of people who you get the feelin isn’t very well liked over there? Like just generally rubs people the wrong way by being loud or egotistical or w/e. Lookin at it from an outsiders view arcades in Japan just seem like a civil area where not much hostility goes on since they don’t have many egos and don’t talk shit like the rest of the world. Like idk maybe you watch the screen and not how people were interacting with each other but I always wondered how much the environment has an impact on their commitment, knowledge and other stuff.
Theres always screaming and yelling around my local arcade. I’m not really into the SF4 scene(I occasionally play, but I’m mainly loyal to Tekken) and its so small compared to other scenes. But yea, people act loud, get mad, shout just like any other place you’d find some competition going on.
