Sabin, you commented on the comparative difference between American vs. Japan with certain characters. I know you probably don’t fight that many Guiles over there, but for the ones you’ve faced, what are they doing that we aren’t. I know you’ve faced Dagger G, would you say that he is on the same level as Japanese Guiles? I’ve noticed that they play far more defensively in Japan, and American Guiles tend to be more aggressive. Is this a misinterpretation of match videos, or is there some truism to this observation. Thanks in advance, hope you answer.
I don’t blame Sanford for quitting. Game needs work and he’s already done what he’s needed to. He’s looking for a game that will exercise his mind a little more and I think Tekken 6 is gonna do that for him.
Why would you quit when you’re winning tournaments and making money? Nobody in the US stacks up to the 3 NY MvC2 players cept Chunksta/Soo and T6 is not out for another 2 solid months.
Don’t hold out son, wtf did they learn? What was so different from Japanese Vipers to say Marns & Flashs?
AFAIK Flash plays a really Japanese like Viper, Marn abuses the shit out of FFF and relies on it heavily, while Combofiend plays a more Uryo like Viper, fundamentals only and no need for big combos they keep it simple.
I’ve yet to see a U.S. Viper on Dashio’s level though, IMHO he’s a step above Uryo he just doesn’t put in the time to get dat BP so he’s overlooked, but he’s beaten Daigo and Mago more convincingly than Uryo ever has.
i just wanted to say…I ALWAYS watch ctf videos…and i think the ny players are so cool…and it’s awesome to see you and this thread…answering questions legitamately like your not even one of the best in the us…possibly even the world
Wait, T6 is brain surgery now? When did it level up from rocket science? Why wasn’t I informed?
[/sarcasm]
Actually, no.
Turn that ish back on.
[sarcasm]
NEVER turn it off.
Can’t wait to giant swing kangaroo into each other online with a friend. King and Armor King co-op FTW. And, oh yeah…there’s a fighting game in there, too, somewhere…
aside from matchup experience and execution, the game boils down to guessing right and taking the right amounts of risks. how do you train for that? how do you learn how to read people better? how to set up baits? how to apply mindgames?
*The Tekken community welcomes Sanford if he decides to pick the game up. The closest character to Ken is Steve Fox. Top tier, blonde, and even has a shoryuken to boot. That decision wouldn’t surprise me at all.
To keep my post relevant:
Are there any unknown to SRK Chun Li players doing well, or are only her best players able to make her shine?*
Every now and then the Kansai crew will get together for some console SFIV and pizza, and I was thinking of having another go sometime in September. You’re welcome to come, and it’ll be a good opportunity to play Seth (I need to learn how to fight this bastard too).
Sabin, I’ve been meaning to ask you for a update on your Ryu. I know you’ve been working on him and using him in smaller tournaments. Have you been using him in Japan, and if you have how well have you done. And do you have the confidence yet to bust him out in a major tournament.
plz someone tell me where the vids are that everybody is talking about. i would like to see these but dont know where to find them. thanks!!!
sabin i would like to know your personal tier list of all the arcade characters in a list from who you think is the best to the worst. and next to the character put the name of your favorite pro that uses that character (one pro for each character would be fine but if you would like to add more names i would like to know them too).
oh and one more thing… STREET FIGHTER 4 IS GOD LIKE!!!
ahahahaha i cant believe you guys are getting baited by sanford kelly…and actually believing that hes quitting sf4. except for pieguy. rofl. he always does this whenever he takes a tough loss. claims hes gonna quit, then people reassure his ego by saying ‘dont quit sanford ur so good!!!’ i assure you its 100% bs that hes quitting, dont fall for the sanford pattern, hes done this for years. T6 aint out until the fall anyways, and why would you give up on free money? Dont fuel his ego, lol! in case you read this kells i <3 you guy and dont be saltyyyyyy
normal hours it closes at 12am…i think youre confusing the all nighters with versus arcade at nishi-nippori
i only played daggerG one game but his guile was solid from what i remember.
also, i dont know if i would say guiles in usa are more aggressive id say both jpn and usa guiles do similar things. they turtle until its advantageous for guile to attack then they rush that shit down…what guile player wouldnt rush that shit down in the corner?
i havent seen mago and umehara around as much, or iyo i think theyre taking a break after that pre-sbo grind. im sure theyll be back. havent seen them since the americans left.
thanks for the props man but im not a god just like the japanese arent gods either were just normal dudes that happen to nejoy sf
im not at a hotel lol
oh shit its LBEYOTCH
vortex means 3-4 way option select post knockdown that is a straight up guess when ur defending, lol i cant tell if youre joking or not, anyway, did you wanna know the vortex for specific chars
she made me promise not to post sagatte pics of her and i know japanese 2ch people are following my every word if i post them ill start another internet shitstorm hah
this is kind of a broad question…i dont know how to answer this. honestly it depends on the char. basically they try to put you in frametraps and put you in advantageous situations before they attack. like for example with sagat, smart use of his f. lk on block, gives you frame advantage, then if you try to interrupt with a non-invincible move, you get counterhit every time. stuff like that.
or stuff like intelligent kara-tiger shotos to stop neutral jumps or when you do neutral jump over a fb and think yorue safe, theyll kara dp and itll go like 70% of the screen into your death, such bs hah. or using kara tiger knee at EXACTLY the right spacing to go over fireballs. basically the more i get fucked up here the better my mindgames are forced to get or i keep losing.
well since ive played umehara and fuudo already, im desensitized to the crazy stuff…i cant think of anythign that made me drop my jaw. pretty much umehara fireball game is crazy, when he gets mindfucked tho, he throws out fbs like crazy lol. fuudo rushdown game is very very solid, good at guessing and making the right decisions everytime. japanese players dont always do anything crazy, cause sf4 is not that complicated, mainly they have a better grasp of the spacing game and are better decision makers since they are grinding out the matchups more.
yes
Does the Tekken Community forget that Sanford won at least 1 T5DR major (Evo East :p) hes not new to the game dont get baited!!!
tentatively im coming on 9/12-9/15 and im staying for a month, i might get a apartment in osaka for a 1 month contract or something…or stay with HeartNana where he lives and come down to Osaka on the weekends, still deciding. I might have a apartment near denden town lol. where do you guys usually hold your console sessions at. i wanna kidnap uryo for a seth/viper runback too!
im too scared to pick my ryu here people are too good…so I havent played him at all since ive been out here.
there are no vids, people are asking me to take vids etc.
id prefer to do that list after i play osaka people though, i havent played all of japan yet.
to the player that asked about viper, i dont know viper like that to really answer you well, basically what i mean is, overall, marn and flash tightened up their game. i wouldnt say they are on uryos level yet but they definitely saw the light and are becoming much stronger with viper - USA was lacking in the viper department so its good that they brought that shit back. basically their game got tightened up.
i mean when i get back, its not like i will start playing crazier or anything, especially since sim is not a combo heavy char, basically ill be aware more of spacing and situations and how to play better defense, sometimes its not always about the crazy parlor tricks.
I was actually just randomly checking top player records today at lunch. Looks like most of them have played at least recently. I think Daigo played last night and Mago around the same. I think Momochi hasn’t played his Akuma since SBO but he has been playing Ryu/Ken. Iyo hasn’t shown any activity since SBO though.
We had one at Reno’s place and so far 2 at mine. My place isn’t that big (lol Japan) but we can get 5-6 people in there. I live in Kyoto, so its kinda a trek from Osaka and the outlying areas but close to the station once you get here.
