Sabin SF4 Japan Q/A - match of the day: Barfights II

I’ve definitely seen both Chari and AC Revenger in plenty of match vids. I’ve only seen Chari a bunch since my friend who played Blanka in Japan for a showed me a bunch of Japanese Blanka vids off Youtube. AC Revenger is easy to find on youtube. I’ve seen Kenpippi once I think and would like to see more of Makoto.

Heh…Joe retired a while ago. Apparently he put some message on his cell phone (you can look up battle card data and notes on cell phones in Japan) and he posted a message basically saying he was losing interest in playing. So I’m assuming real life took over and he died off subsequently. Now Uryo is the new king of Viper (or may have always been). Kaqn probably moved on to Blazblue or went back to Guilty Gear to train for SBO. There isn’t any video of him anymore and he used to be one of the “stars” on gamechariot.

Anyone have any vids of these Kens? I have a few of wao’s already and a few others, not sure if I have any of Emilio, Ive seen some tho. I want to save them to the collection I have on my phone. DevilJin knows that I have a ton of vids saved in my pocket, lol.

Ken is that dude, I like him as a character & I kind of like how I have to work for my wins, makes me feel like I accomplished something.

Off the X30 for some training for an hr or so.

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Don’t know if you know this but there’s a French commentator who is seemingly a one-man Masatsugu fan club, and calls him the French national mascot for SFIV. His Youtube channel is here: http://www.youtube.com/user/Puyo432343

I think Strike-san is best Ken Player.

every char gives me trouble here if they are good with the char.
the chars that have been giving me trouble the most off the top of my head are goukis, abel, and sagat. i havent fought enough of my counterfights (viper, rufus to really say they give me trouble, or i might be getting better at those matches.

my matchup theories are slowly falling in line with the japanese the more i play here. mago said sagat/sim is 6-4 and i kind of agree with that now.
i used to think honda was 6-4 sim now i think its 5-5.

i played another grand master honda at shinjuku sportsland tonight…honda is actually a really really good char and i leanred some things behind the obvious hhs setups

first, super invinciblity is more than his ultra, when honda gets a super, i cant throw a fireball, even from 3/4th screen super will go right through that shit free (he has to predict i will throw a fireball though.)

2ndly, his antiair options vs sim are very similar to zangiefs…meaning he has a wheel of options he can use for antiair vs sim if he guesses right. neutral fierce, and honda j. strong i believe will beat sim j. strong, j. far RH in the air

at specific angles j. fierce, j. rh, j. strong (when i throw a fireball) all beat sims b. rh antiair options from afar and trade at worst.
so then i tried using slide to tripguard this, but they will just delay the j. strong to hit my slide.

so, i have to treat this match like zangief kind of. rarely try to antiair him, instead, just let him whiff his antiair and whiff punish his normal in the air…and iat barckwards a lot, dont let him even get close to you. i was able to fuck up a grandmaster honda once i figured out to whiff punish his jumpins instead of trying to beat them straight up. this match is actually very grueling cause if he hits you once, its soooo much life…but i think i can beat akimos honda if i play him next week at trf if i play well.

nope that was the one and only time. i wanted t oplay him more, i was using a semitsu hrap ex which is kind of unfamiliar for me to use, so i missed some crucial links. and plus other dudes wanted to play. hopefully i can set up something when im in osaka.

okonomiyaki, gyoza, beef bowls…goign to izakaya restaurants a lot…japanese food is pretty good. sometimes when i dont have someone japanese to be with ill just americanize it out lol. me gunter and kim went to tgifridays the other day lol! but yeah overall im eating well lol.

top 8…hmm…well you have to understand of course im from ec so thats my bias when i make the list
in no order (based off tourney results) i think its justin, marn, sanford, myself, iloveujoe edma then the last 2 are really hard. i cant guess the last 2 since i dont know about cali scene that well and more importantly, nothing was settled at evo since ec and wc never really played. theres a lot of good players but those are who stand out in my mind overall, but i feel that at this point in the game ec is a bit ahead of wc right now especially after japan leveling up. sorry i wasnt able to give you a complete answer and sorry if my list sounds kinda random/biased.

half colombian

i think the low tier chars in the game are very good compared to chars from other games. guile fights my 2 chars REALLY well, and hes at the bottom…plus sim is a low tier char himself. of course he doesnt have comeback potential but at the same time its difficult to actually mount a offense on him, his defense is beastly plus he has a good airthrow to boot and sonic boom is godlike.

see quote above where i answer this. i still think hes low but that doesnt mean hes horrible.

sf4 stimulus package, thats how. also, im like a few credits away from graduation, i delayed a semester since i feel this is one of the few chances ill get to play sf4 in japan so i wanted to take the opportunity.

havent seen any

kim feels sim wins, but thats cause he plays iyo. i think its 5-5, im leaning slightly torwards bison having advantage, cause once he gets knocked down, he can eat scissor loop for days. kim told me something that might change the match dramatically though…on block sim can interrupt in between low short scissors…which means u can do ultra…teleport…super anything…it doesnt naturally combo. i have yet to incorporate it into my game though so i cant comment too much on how this changes the match. back in the usa the best bison in the USA imo is twistedjago (andre) and he gives me a really hard time, min didnt know the match at that point in time so thats why it looked free.

when i have some spare time and im in a good mood, sure ill update np.

i dont think its a good idea because if i accept money from the community, or a camera, i will be held to a higher standard than everyone else, and you see how much glovegirl got ripped on for her sbo photos and what she did and didnt do…so im kind of reluctant to accept this offer. i know at alpha station, and a few other arcades, they have direct feed recording, ie i put in a blank dvd and just play, i did this 2 years ago when i used to play arcana, id prefer to take this route. of course i wanna record and show nigs whats up though, well have to see what happens.

and actually, youre right, since japan is only single elim tourney, casual play over long sets takes more precedence than 1 match in tournament, of couse not to the fans but to the players anyway, you know what i mean? but yeah maybe we can try to find some compromise. im down but again im very reluctant, i dont wanna get ripped on by the community/

read above, also, i dont even have internet at my apartment right now to upload videos like that. i wont have internet on a daily basis until i move to osaka which will be in mid sepetember.

yes their execution is fucking crazy, and yeah, lots of usa players try to run before they can crawl, trying to learn tricks and shit before learning fundamentals is not the way to go imo.

i agree with this in this day and age, its simply retarded imo, but thats japan for ya

okay, i know english is not ur main language…
but you REALLY need to watch my trf match again…
when i came on the mic, did i say anything after i lost to akimo? no, i didnt. youre REALLY being stupid now, man.

and you werent even there, sometimes i took the mic, and just said random shit, cause i know it would piss you and other idiots off. you dont see anyone complaining here, do you? and sometimes they would hand me the mic to say something, and i would say ‘free!!!’ like i always do back at home. so deal with it, its how i roll.

also, youre telling me not to interpret a favorable situation for me? I GIVE PLAYERS THAT ARE GOOD, AND OTHER TOP JAPANESE PLAYERS MAD PROPS, but you always ignore what i write. STOP. BEING. RETARDED.

So when are you going to come to play me face to face? if you respond again, I will just reply with the same question.

hoping we can do this at alpha station or somewhere where we can record guys.

oh yeah, last few days ive been playing ameriken. first day, he was really impressed with my sim, said i fight hella diff than iyo since we were going back and forth. dude really thought i was at tougeki for press and thought i was a justin wong fanboy or something…thats how little he knows about the scene lol. said if he knew i was serious he would have made a effort to wake up on time at tougeki lol, stop making me sad Ken!! today though he had my number! he played against a lot of sims today at shinjuku sportsland and learned the match a little better. i think i only beat him like 3 games out of like 10 tonight so good shit to him. sagat damage is just too much sometimes for me, but it helps me get better since i dont like to lose to ameriken or anyone.

this guy is hella funny btw, he beats a lot of japanese players on a regular basis, streaks more than me actually and talks shit and has fun while doing it…i like it.

OH YEAH!! also, me, Ameriken, and maybe ohayo1234 (if hes down) will be at TRF again this friday so get hype!

more later

lolol nice, i like how they show only the replay where we got raped, not the first part of the match when we were beating that shit out of that team…but apparently we are wrong for being upset about the do over according to anonymous 2ch posters.

Sabin - You mentioned U.S. Balrogs being about 1 month behind Japanese Balrogs. Could you also tell us how many months behind (or ahead even) we are for other characters?

Also could you comment on the skill level of the Taiwanese and Korean SF4 qualifiers.

yeah, shit got controversial on that day (you can check the shiozawa cup thread for info) because they changed members and characters, which is a no-no in standard japan tourney rules.

Wow what a lame story about Ameriken. He was like “this American kid wants to play” LOL. Ya’ll would have won at least a match or 2 easy there.

Wow, that set up with the DVD recorder sounds awesome.

We misinterpreted his quote earlier. He said America in general is at least 1 month behind Japan overall. He also said that we don’t give japanese boxers enough credit. Aojiru guile money matched sabin, marn, jwong and floe for 100 yen each, and beat them all (1 game, 2/3).

I think Sabin said that we just pull way too much from videos and form biased opinions that aren’t really true. We comment only about things Japanese players do, and not things they don’t do. What I mean by that is we don’t understand what potential traps they’re avoiding, how they’re correctly guessing against mix-up and how they’re holding their spacing to prevent unfavorable situatoins.

were obviously lightyears ahead with the console chars for obvious reason, its almost like a different game heh.

were way behind when it comes to gouki. edma, sanford, etc are really good gouki players, but they dont do the jab -> rh loop consistently like the japanese do. They also dont abuse the gouki vortex bs mixup that he has after a tatsu -> sweep combo either.

basically a lot of combos that we thought were impractical in general, are quite practical here.

were a bit behind on viper too, but i know marn/flashmetroid took that cheap shit back to the US…hmm now that i think about it…blanka as well, havent played a blanka like mizoterus in the us ever.

iirc our boxers, sims, ryus are roughly around the same level. iyo is better than me, but thats roughly because of his mindset when it comes to sf in general. i feel if i keep playing here i can get as good as him provided my execution gets better

fuerte, were not too far behind, they have some parlor tricks that we dont do, but i think if they we were SO far behind, i wouldnt be able to fight vs fuerte as well as i do here. its roughly the same. of course i can only count the number of good fuerte players in the us on one hand

sagat…way behind, usa sagats are not abusing the cheap shit like mago, ojisanboy, even ameriken/sagat girl (lol) does.

youre right about the latter, but when i say were only a month behind, im referring to top players, which might really be only 10-15 players max in the USA. the average player in USA is obviously way behind the average japanese player here. and keep in mind that im speaking only potentially and in theory. there are some top players in the us that would really be able to push their game to the next level if they played over here but cant for obvious reasons.

Fuck that pacific ocean :annoy:

Elaborate on the cheap shit the King of Muay Thai possesses.

Kara option-selects , kara fb , kara dp ,kara knee ,zoning etc…

alioune coined it perfectly

So basically US Sagats need to kara everything they do and use s.LK and they’ll be tops!

well they need fundamendals first, then add the stuff alioune mentioend to their game and then yeah theyll be on top

edit i also forgot to answer boxs question. i didnt play laugh with my serious chars at evo so i cant say. only played him with ryu. and i didnt see his partner play so i have no comment.

as for the taiwanese sf4 players…didnt they get past first round at shizowa cup or whatever? good shit either way, i didnt see their match cause right after we lost we stormed the fuck out.

LOL US got MAD!

What are the operating hours of Big Box anyway? I remember hearing stories of 3s players spending absolute ridiculous amounts of time at the arcade, sleeping overnight in those little cubbies even in order to get as much game time in as possible. Wish we could do that in the states xD.
