If the notes are accurate, it does seem like certain light reversals will blow up meaty grabs. Adds a little bit more of a guess on our part, but certainly nothing like season one where invincible DP beat everything. I would imagine this could blow up ex grab > ex grab loop.
Quite honestly I am not bothered by this change. Since S1 Laura has received significant buffs, especially her command grab. It was a bit too easy to just dial the lp bolt in trigger, now we have to think a little bit more. For instance you can walk forward and setup a clap with cr.mk etc. Delaying the bolt manually will be a bit annoying but Laura still has A) low confirm, B.) improved momentum when inside, because of the DP nerf since S1, C) improved command grab and a powerful mixup after your opponent blocks st.lk from close range, D) nice amount of health among other things.
On the bright side now we can just watch from the sidelines as people complain about Cammy
Yeah she’s still definitely much better than before and the other nerf is not even a real nerf because cr. LK still retains the short hitstop and you will chain it into cr. LP anyway, it’s just annoying that they remove one of the main rewards for spending meter and we also lose the medium link on meaty. It makes wake-up pressure a little more boring and adds the risk of getting fucked up for trying.
I don’t even get why they would keep the +15 on KD at this point other than for the EX grab loop shenanigans.
Yeah I see this happen to alot of pros even. You see them try to walk back or come up for crouching, but when they try to use st.mp to AA theyll get her fb. It’s extremely annoying.
I don’t know about you guys, but I think removing the jump back option select (if it truly works out) is going to be big for Laura. Of course there were ways to blow it up (YOLO overhead is my fave) but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone for a grab only to see that derpy looking jump back LK. More guessing on their part= good for mixup characters like Laura.
I think I need a secondary, not only cause I keep losing to characters like Birdie. My local is Laura central at top 8. If I use my other character? Mika? Same thing. 1 Birdie, 1 Karin, 1 Cammy then remaining 5 is a toss up between Laura and Mikas between us all.
Ugh God the Laura mirror is truly horrendous. You both know her game-changing weaknesses, it makes either play scared to move. One blocked overhead spells disaster. lol
Btw I am truly loving her EX Grab through projectiles. I dont see alot of Lauras use it at all though even when their in range.
Laura mirrors are those moments where you discover that things you thought they were reactable (see command dash cancels) aren’t really as reactable as you thought.
Yeah its becoming an army. Ibuki, Balrog, and Urien are taking up the majority of the ranked matches. There are more Lauras but you can tell who just picked her up and whose actually been with her since the beginning.
Anyone else gone back to USF4? I mean of course I continue to play SF5, but I played a few matches and it is extremely live there, surprisingly. Seems like more and more people are going back to it. I hate to say it…but even using Poison, I actually do have alot more fun in USF4 than SF5, even when losing.
Certain things are frustrating and I think I was better at 4, but I’m still enjoying 5 and think I like it better overall. I was fine with it at the time, but jab, jab into your character’s most damaging special over and over again seems so derpy now. That’s one thing I’m glad is mostly gone.
Tried USF4 once after a few months of playing SF5, found out how horrible the netcode really was and then uninstalled it definitely. I’d rather play anime fighters than go back to that game.
Yeah, I honestly don’t miss the old game. I just miss the larger player base and easier matchmaking. SFV takes forever and half of the lobbies I join are someone idle or someone who runs or someone who kicks me just for showing up. Or someone whose 5 bar connection suddenly becomes 3 when you enter the room. I really hate that you can’t search by location.
SF4s net code was not great either, but at least you couldn’t get all the lag on one side. Or see a move connect and then go back in time lol.
