Ryu Tutorial Video

not to beat the topic to death, but in pianoing you can line up 6 inputs across 6 consecutive frames, ensuring that you hit that tiny window. Even when double-tapping with two fingers, how many frames do you think it would take after the first press before the button is raised and pressed again? I’d be very surprised to see anything under 5 frames - and if you’re trying to hit a 1 or 2 frame window with two inputs 5 frames apart, it’s like trying to hit a bullseye with a shotgun. Sure you might succeed, but you will never be consistent as you would be in just timing one input correctly.

It’s a matter of practice. And not that much really.

If you think of the whole sequence as a rhythm, then you only need to work out that rhythm, then practice it a bit. The good news is that the rhythm is an uniform one.
For me, the best way to link consistently is to space the hits in the chain before the link, so that the interval between them is the same as the link interval.

Take cr.lp, cr.hp for example. cr. lp is 11 frames total and has +5 advantage. cr.hp is 4 frames startup. This means you need to press the HP button 11 or 12 frames after pressing the LP button.
Now consider cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.hp.
cr.lk is 15 frames with +2 advantage on hit, but it doesn’t matter because you will always chain (and not link) from it. So there is a huge window in which you can hit cr.lp and still chain.
This means that you can do cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.hp with 11 frames between the hits, or with 12 frames between them and still get an uniform rhythm. In the first case you have 1 frame leeway for hitting later, as opposed to 1 frame leeway for hitting earlier in the other case (the first one is better in my case; your mileage may vary). The 11 frames rhythm also has the advantage that it is the same for strings involving cr.lp, cr.mk links (like cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.lp, cr.mk - here we have three 11 frames intervals for an uniform rhythm).

@SiYkO:
I double tap. It works. And I am not even very dexterous. shrug
You should just make sure to remove the first finger promptly. Once you do this, it is EXACTLY like pianoing on two buttons.
If you’ve never used it though, it is probably a better idea to start directly with p-linking, I give you that.

Another way is to just get a feel for timing of the character you play. For example, do f.HP > c.LP > c.HP over and over and over again in training mode with sound on, eventually, you just ~know~ how your combo is supposed to sound and feel… which is the first step of becoming a piano player and never messing up those combos again

ya well I got kicked out of the piano class in high school because I couldnt follow the beat (which was a good thing I prefer drawing).

I tryed to play without sound yesterday and just listen to my buttons will try that again tonight but still … when timing is a matter of frame/s its a bit insane for a game … just my opinion

2 frames at most…it’s very fast once you learn it.

P-linking and double-tap both work, though…it comes down to preference.

oh so thats how it looks like I was tapping them way too fast thanks

Yup. Double tapping is way faster than 5 frames. I’d say 1 or 2.

wow man… great post… i’ve watched almost all the videos in this thread… and they have helped alot! i really appreciate it… hopefully once i get firmiliar with the site and when my playing gets better… i will be able to help out other folks too…

These are great videos! I never noticed them. Thanks a lot for taking the time!

Hey Mickey D’ did you ever decide whether you were going to do a button press video for those of us having trouble pulling off some of the harder combos? Thanks in advance!

Mickey great job and effort to the rise of the community skills with Ryu. Guess I don’t need to say that it helped me out a lot lol !
I hope that you are planning some good stuff for tutorial pt. 5 !
Anyway good job man. What a shame that u don’t have PS3 so that I can spare with you. :frowning:

Hey guys, I just wanted to say that I’m real sorry for not making a video for awhile. My girly is using the computer a lot for law school, so I don’t really get time to capture anything. It’s been more then 2 months since I threw out a video, and once again, I’d just like to apologize for that. I’ve intended to come out with video 5 for a VERY long time.

Other then that, video 5 is about momentum and applying pressure, and pressing the advantage. As yall know, video 4 was about spacing/zoning, so video 5 is supposed to take the other direction on that.

I can’t give you any idea as to when the video will come out, but I can say that it will definitely be a lot like video 4 in that it’ll have really good insight.

All in all, I’ll keep ya updated as to what’s happening to video 5

Sweet! I’m definitely fiending for another video hehe

nice tutorial man!

Hey, Mickey D’ your tutorial video has great tips n insights especially Video 4. I still struggle with spacing, ground games, and pressuring my opponents. But with ur video I could say that i’ve improve.

Hoping to see ur next tutorial video soon, as i could learn alil sumthing about pressuring ur opponent. It would be really useful.

Thanks for the great videos. It definitely helped me think about my game more. Can’t wait for the next video.

It IS possible my freind, it takes a lot of practise and the worst thing is the way the buttons for the triple punch and triple kick are assigned which makes it awkward to connect the ultra sometimes because a Shoryuken/EX Shoryuken comes out. Try assigning the buttons to how you feel comfortable.

I can do it 100% all the time on the 360 pad now. Sticks are not for everyone though so just think hard before getting one.

Nice videos… Ive seen them before but didn’t pay much attention to them until now…

I noticed p-linking is a lot easier and more consistent then double tapping for me. Specially if you have long fingers it just feels awkward trying to piano on 1 button.

thanks for the video!
