Ryu Thread

Since it’s obvious, you need to retract this statement.

My original message on the subject was a response to otakugamer’s post, which mentioned that, for Fei Long,

a situation where it is clearly not a good idea to use a Jab Shoryuken. The same is valid when you are just in range of Claw’s cr.RH.

All my statements are correct. Even grammar becomes correct!

I know I talked about this before, but here is proof. Ryu can do cr lk into cr stand hp as a 2 hit combo. I managed to do a 3 hit by adding a fast fireball as well.

And here is cr lk into cr hk 2 hit combo. I guess blitz and ultracombo was right. Oldschool_br needs to update his frame data.

sorry the vid looks like shit, I had to hold teh camera with one hand, move the stick with my elbow, and push buttons with the other.

How consistently could you pull this off?

I’d say 60 to 70 percent. Interesting enough, last time when I tried to do this with oldschool_br on ggpo, it was 0 percent. Neither he nor I could do it once.

I haven’t tried it since last night because I don’t really use ryu. But for some reason last night, I remember DGV doing a cr jab into stand fierce into super on me a while back so I knew it had to work. He also does that combo when after button checking in tournies to kill off the previous character. So I threw on training mode last night and low and behold, worked like a charm.

There is a certain rhythm to it, kind of like playing the drums in that rock band game. Linking jab into cr hk seems to work a bit easier. Jab might have faster recovery frames. You can do that sf4 combo here too, cr jab -> stand jab -> cr hk. If your timing is nice, you can cr lk 3 times then cr hk for a 4 hit combo.

I call BS on that. I need video proof to believe it. Never seen anyone ever pull off standing FP to Super in a game not to mention off of a jab link. Show me please!

I wouldn’t call BS right away, because of a curious phenomenon which has happened while I was testing the impact freeze. It is mentioned in that thread which I had created, and then Ganelon gave suggestions on how to test things better. Well, I noticed that rarely, where rarely means only once among all tests, normals would come out when I pressed a button for a reversal throw attempt. It has happened for the whole round. In all other situations, a reversal throw attempt would be safe, in the sense that either you would obtain a throw, or no move would come out, leaving you vulnerable. Thus, perhaps there is some weird glitch which allows normals the first neutral state after moves, recovery of attacks, knockdowns and such. I have just tried cr.Short into cr.RH again and it still has not worked. I have tried with Ryu ahead in rounds and Ryu behind in rounds.

In addition to it, I recall once I would obtain reversal Flash Kicks in WW on wake-up. And then I have tried it recently, and only reversal throws would work. Reversal specials on wake-up failed every time. Curious. I may be an emulator glitch, but most such things, e.g. different speeds in different stages and screen shaking when you challenge in the vs screen, have also been observed in the real board.

Just ask him. When we used to play on HDR, he did it 2 me twice in 1 match with spectators in the room. Last night after training mode for about an hour I did it twice. I found that it only works for me if i hold down jab after so I don’t get a neg edge fireball when i buffer.

at 2:48 aniken does it in game. Aniken is playing n ryu.

2:48 is a kara cancel DP

edit
you mean the combo after the dizzy? Im lost lol. is it cr short to fierce or st fierce to super were talking about. I R slow

after the kara cancel dp, he jumps in with hp, then does stand hp into super. That’s the in game stand hp into super steve was asking about.

Steve: try this, this is how I did it last night. from 1p side.
cr lp -> hold down lp -> qcf -> neutral hp qcf mp(instead of mp, you could double tap hp, but its easier for me if I piano to mp for the super)

It works, I guaranty it works. If you want me to make a video, I’m going to have to find someone to help me hold a camera and watch me try for about an hour. I’ll see if moocus is busy this weekend.

The standing FP to super is impressive and I have done it training mode after a few tries, but I wanna see that with crouching light attack link to standing FPxxxsuper you said DGV did. Thats seems insanely difficult.

Edit: Although impractical as crouching FPxxsuper is easy, the fact the Aniken can do that standing cancel to super at will, makes me sick to my stomach, not to mention short, short,DP on rog.

the c.lk into stand fierce to dp or bomb you can do it all day in hyper street, actually is a nasty tecnique cuz when you hit cause dizzy and u can do it again, the stand hp into super in ST i have done it many times on practice , but the c.lk into fierce+super that move is not for st , you can get it 1 out 15-20 times at best so why try it, but anyway if you guys figured it out is all good.

I think you have severely underestimated the execution beast known as DGV.

I believe you, but still I need to see a video of it being done on an arcade cps2 system (or GGPO I guess), not HDremix.

I’ll try to get a vid done by sunday. And to be honest, high level combos like this are harder on HDR because of easy input windows. The easy inputs mess up your buffering by making fireballs or DP’s come out when in ST they would not have.

Gaiden’s Ryu is serious biznezz. He’s the only Ryu player that I have seen do crouch Strong, stand Fierce, Super on Zangief (I haven’t seen any Japanese players do this combo). I’ve tried that combo myself but it’s difficult cuz you have to negative edge the Strong so that you don’t get Hadoken or Shoryuken. DGV does it easily so I have no problems believing PAPER’s story of him doing crouch Jab, stand Fierce, Super.

But it would be nice to see it on video though.

plenty of Ryu players do it, u just dumb to execute it.

If a player can pull that combo against Chun or Bison, then that would be impressive

Anyways, in other news, I’m glad somebody finally posted a vid of the crouch Short, sweep combo. I knew I wasn’t on crack. Thanks PAPER.

I just did it 3 times. All I need is someone to help me record it for proof now. Its really hard, but there is a trick to it. Its very similar to the way I buffer for my 720 tricks.

give the camera to ur puppy n start recording, that or use a tripod
