Ryu Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

if you don’t know how to safe jump learn how to do that because that help a lot with gen,not only that it also is very useful against everyone else.There is a good write up in HERE.But against Gen,Ryu really kinda wants to get close,because zoning Gen is very difficult.Your goal should be to get an untechable knockdown and then get as much damage as possible with wakeup games,a few good guesses at close is all it takes.

Any ways Im having makato trouble any tips. I read the match up guide but i still have trouble with everyting.

Haha Thanks man,I just try to help the people here and share my knowledge as much as possible.As for,makoto,I am not very familiar with her,I think the best approach is obviously to zone her for as long as possible.Her instant air axe kick thing is hard to AA,but you can DP it and iirc far HP beats it as well.Try to keep yourself out of the corner as long as possible too,push her there if possible.If you manage to get an untechable knockdown try to take advantage of it as much as possible,as she should be pretty free on wakeup.However,I do think she can use EX chop to get out of at least some of your safe jump stuff,it has 12 frames on invincibility but 18 frames of startup so she should be able to get hit out of it before the actual chop.I am not sure which safe jump OS would shut her down but I would try OS sweep on her,if the chop gets you on that HP SRK should cover that but I am not sure if that will catch backdash,need to test that.I THINK OS sweep would hit her chop though.

Its probably better to Dash after an unteckable knowdown and put pressure from the ground vs Makoto safe jump can all be
Ex Karakusa for big dammage. Same as playing vs Abel where Ex TT deal 200 dammage vs your safe jump because its counterhit. In those 2 match up after Sweep , Dash is probably better but
after a throw going for an ambigious cross up set up is a fair alternative.

If Makoto has not ex bar than safe jumping should be prefered ( not sur if she can Karusa normal)

ahh okay thanks,I didn’t know she could EX command throw that.I think you can EX air tatsu to beat her command throw on a safe jump though,you can to abel.Not the most practical thing ever but it is a useful tool.

If you want to bait an anti safe jump grab, empty jump backdash is good. So is empty jump DP. Air tatsu can help too but you can’t cross up with tatsu off the safe jump timing I believe.

You can throw Makoto out of her EX command grab. She can axe kick you out of a throw. It’s a big dumb guessing game but if you mix up your timings and spacings you can still apply delayed pressure. Just don’t go for obvious crossup tatsus, they’re free lp+dp -> lol damage for Makoto.

Wassup guys, I’m having trouble doing ryu’s hit confirm into fadc ultra. I do cr.lk cr.lp shoryuken fadc into ultra. After the light punch I’m having trouble doing the shoryuken. Is there better hit confirm for ryu into the fadc ?.

the srk fadc is pretty much the standard, although the u1 itself can be hitconfirmed with ex tatsu in the corner or antiairing an opponent with lp srk or jumping mp, if memory servers correctly. The srk fadc gives me insane amounts of trouble, but the other hitconfirms I listed are pretty easy to do.

If it’s really problematic a good way to learn it is to just play IMHO. Get used to fadc-ing moves into backdash for safety and practice the other hitconfirms so you’re super familiar with the components of the combo. Then hit training mode and put the pieces together. But like I said, it’s a bitch. One of the main reasons I find Ryu annoying tbh :stuck_out_tongue: (been playing for three weeks or so)

Yea, tell me about it lol. I have another question to. In matches I have a tough time doing combo’s and that the part of my game that’s really lacking. I have no problem doing them in training mode but when it come’s to battle i freeze up a lil and get conservative and just stick to what I know. Any tip’s on this ?.

just naked DP FADC to ultra is a solid punish,or c.HP into it.I don’t use hit confirms into DP myslef but what is probably happening in your combos is you are chaining cLK into c.LP.You can’t cancel into special moves from chains so you have to link the jab.Also doing a deep DP as anti-air FADC into unltra is a useful way to land it.I personally don’t recommend using LP SP to anti air in most situations,a deep MP or HP DP is superior imo.To do them deep you have to do them from crouching,I use the shortcut down-forward,down,down-forward.

But you do need the fadc to make MP or HP DP => U1 possible, no? Which is precisely what was the problem here.

You cant link c.lk to c.lp, so the Srk has to be linked before FADC ultra 1.

An easier combo could be c.lp xx c.lp linked c.lp xx Srk FADC , ultra 1.

Hey guy’s I watch alot of good ryu players on youtube and try and study them but for the life of me I cant figure out why daigo or air will stand far range on the screen and do standing light kicks and sometimes light punches. I there a reason for whiffing the standing light kick at far range.

You use those to fake a fireball,you do like qcf LK or crouch then stand and light punch to make it look like oyu are inputting fireball.You can use it to bait jumps or ultras that go through projectiles.

Ryu meaty os sweep…

What’s the technique here? jab, plink lp~hk? That seems a little awkward.
or is it lp~hk?

Also is there any way to os a special move so that if a certain normal whiffs you get it right after? I don’t really think it’s possible but if it is, let me know. I’ve only seen this with ultras and that’s because normals can’t cancel into those.

It’s not even to directly bait a jump. It’s to stop the opponent from figuring out patterns. It also ‘controls space.’ It makes you look more offensive than just standing. No one actually jumps because you just throw a stand jab. It’s a way to say “I’m doing something” without actually doing anything.

cr.lp, cr.lp + hk. You are chaining the jabs. You have to delay the chain slightly to get the OS.

Jump in OS shoryuken is basically what you’re describing. It’s possible with other normal moves, but generally only if they’re not special cancellable.

I think you actually can set up OS on a special cancellable normal but it’s so timing intensive that it’s not worth it. Also even if you could it wouldn’t be much more useful than say OS sweep.

Can the execution technique pianoing be used for ryu or is it just for charge characters ?.
