You knew how to play Ryu, but just wasn’t anti-airing and punishing hard enough. Also, you never backdashed or used tactics to escape his command throw. Don’t worry, you can get much better once you learn how to escape situations.
yeah I didnt expect his throw that many times lol.i tried neutral jumping a few times but ate hits because of it
I am on PJS right now playing aquasilk
I also just fought Valle!
lol, I’m jealous man. You got to play some big hitters all in one night.
I will show you the replays next time you are on man
I watched the vids and felt sad for you man :(. Have you played on the stream before or was it a case of stage fright? I usually love fighting Honda so I’m not sure how I would have done against Jewelmans Honda. What you got to realise is that Jewelman will usually play Valle and other top rank players so he’s got high competition. If you keep playing good players and are confident in your execution than you’ll get better, its simple really. The fact that you stayed on the stream and kept on trying reflects your character, others would have disconnected, so bravo for you for staying in there. I remember in one of the rounds, you threw a fireball, Honda jumped at you, you tried to AA and you got a standing MP >:( (I realised it was gonna be one of those days).
I remember you AA’ing Honda Headbutt followed by FADC Ultra, but the Ultra missed >:(. Its hard enough landing the AA, but you got all of it out only for the Ultra to miss.
How did your matches against Valle go? He’s my favourite Ryu at the moment.
thanks. The sad thing is that we have never played against each other online. I think we tried and it was a really bad connection :(. I like playing against fellow ryu’s from this forum because I know that they will attempt the things that we discuss on here rather than just random shit.
Yeah I am pretty mellow when it comes to gaming and such usually.I welcome good competition.I did poorly against him but oh well,I just gotta keep at it and get better to get up to jewelmans level.
My matches against valle went pretty well actually, close games for the most part,I was happy with it.If you can get on xbox now I will show them to you.
also i think that was my first time on PJS but I wasnt nervous which is far call from normal for me.lol I am usually really nervous on stream.
I’m at work so I cant get on xbl right now :(. If you did ok with Valle than thats saying something! I remember playing on the srklive stream, it was really laggy and I was nervous as hell cause it was a full lobby + everybody else who was watching. I think I won the first couple, but didnt AA cause of the lag and played safe. I’m guessing the Peaceful Jay Stream will prob be just as laggy for me. I’ll prob be on xbl later tonight (+12 hours from now) so if I see you, I’ll PM you to see the Valle fights.
okay man,you are 5 hours ahead of me I presume,is it nearly 10 AM there?
yes, actually 10:30am in the UK right now.
Not sure if this is widely known, but Ryu can land a lvl 2 focus after canceling a fireball against Guile. Most successful ways I’ve found to land it are:
j. HP/HK, cr. MP, cr. MK xx Fireball, lvl 2 focus
f. HP, cr. MP, cr. MK xx Fireball, lvl 2 focus
Damage scaling doesn’t justify the meter trade off, but it’s there for anyone who’s interested.
EDIT: I meant in the corner, sorry for leaving out this important piece of info. :looney: Noticed DreamKing did something similar in his Silent Film combo vid against Sim.
Even RYU has been a legendary characters… I really love this guy and every Street Fighter Series, i use him as my ultimate one. Thanks for the hints and discussion about my favorite one.
Does anybody know any set up with Ryu base on counter-hit. Ive never explored this side of Ryu and know little about it.
Whats the best way to see a counter-hit ? Do you react to the animation of a stuffed move or you look for it on the screen
for the counter-hit message.
Personally I look for the counter-hit message on screen.Ryu has a lot of different frme traps he can use depending on who he is fighting but his most used is probably cr.MP,cr.MP.It only leaves a 2 frame gap iirc.He can also use other things against characters depending on how fast their cr.LP/cr.LK comes out, using moves like close HP.His frame traps with larger gaps can lead to bigger damage. You can figure out things like what moves you can use to setup a counter hit by looking at frame data and figuring out the gaps that are left by doing X move followed by Y move.To calculate the gap you see what the advantage on hit is then subtract it from the startup of the move you would do after. For example, say you do cr.LP followed by cl.HP,cr.LP is +2 on block and cl.HP starts up in 5 frames. Therefore using that as a frame trap leaves a 3 frame gap because 5-2=3.Of course this is only accurate if you did the cl.HP on the first frame you were capable of doing a move after recovering from the cr.LP.
Thx I already know all this information.
I am more interested in knowing if Ryu can land special combo when he get a counter-hit.
For example Fei long can land a Ultra 1 if he get a counter-hit cl.mp.
Cody can land Ultra 2 from a counter hit foward mp.
For Ryu only thing counter-hit help me was give me more frame to confirm a sweep or c.mk
after a counter hit c.mp.
I remember Daigo landing 2 c.mk in a row I think thx to a counter hit. This kind of stuff I am
looking for if there is anything meningfull for Ryu.
Well if you can land a counter hit far fierce you can link into super or sweep, but I think that may be corner only. Also of course if you land a CH cl.HK you can link to sweep, this is actually a decent frame trap,I think jab into cl.HK leaves a 5 frame gap so not too bad. Those are the only CH set-ups I can think of,mayeb someone else can tell you others.
Tested a Playerjun’s Ken trick to reset dmg scaling after hard stun, with Ryu:

You can actually land a sweep or cr.MK off of cl.HK without counterhit, but only if they got hit while crouching instead of standing.
