Ryu Combo Thread

I don’t know if it’s me but my Joudan corner combo doesn’t work anymore, cr. hp joudan, cr hp tatsu, I get J.hk or tatsu and not the cr. hp.

I think that corner combo still works, lk Joudan is the new way to go now. You’re not missing out on damage either.

The Joudan has more recovery on hit and block now. I believe that was one of the changes, they altered it drastically. What are you doing for corner combos now? I’m trying to use Cr.Mp, Cr.Hp, Lk Tatsu, Cr.Mp, Cr.Hp, any Tatsu. His HK Tatsu seems to give the most float for tag in combos, mind.

Not sure if it’s new or not but ryu can land Jumping hp,cr.hp,tatsu after a ex joudan. Or you can replace the tatsu with another joudan. I was actually in recording mode and using the dummy when i did it so it didn’t register the damage. So i don’t know for sure if ex joudan,cr.hp,srk does more or less damage then the one that i mentioned above.

At least in short combos ex juodan, jumping hp, cr.hp,tatsu always does more damage then ex joudan,cr.hp, hp srk or ex joudan,jumping hk, hp srk. On top of that it builds more meter as it has more moves in it. So if you can do it the former combo is always the better option

Nice find, could you try and put that into his F+HP link? My arcade stick broke, and I’m finding it very difficult to do combos on pad. :frowning:

sure it only does about 5 percent more but more importantly it builds more meter and if you are ahead it takes more time off the clock

Is F+hp,CR.MP possible in this game? I know it was a 1 frame link in sf4 but i haven’t played sf4 since the original version

I’m sure the explanation is simple but why does the following combo do varying degrees of damage?
Clst.mp,st.hp,ex joudan,jumping hp,cr.hp,tatsu.
I’ve had to do as little as 387 and as much as 405. I’ve heard using a link instead of a chain will net you more damage but their are no possible links in that combo so that can’t be the reason.

How are you getting the jump punch?

It could be gems, do you use them? As I don’t when I record.

nah don’t use gems probably just missed a punch the one time. Any way Cr.mp,cr.hp ( must be linked to get full damage),ex joudan,jump punch,cr.hp,hk tatsu does 390 damage. As far as hitting the jump punch you have to delay for a sec and jump towards them. I’ll try to ul a vid later. You can actually replace it with jump kick which is easier to hit but using a jk actually makes the combos harder to finish. Assuming just frames work in this game you should be able to start a combo with F+mp,CR.mp but it would need perfect just frame timing.

does the lk tatsu, sweep link work if the tatsu hits them in the air or is it only viable versus grounded opponents.

Damn, Grumpy. You’re putting in so much work! :slight_smile: When I get my stick, or if I learn pad for the time being, I’ll create a Ryu combo video. As for F+MP in Cr.Mp, I couldn’t get it to hit, it seems it pushes them too far back. But, you can connect a St.Lp after F+MP.

What have you got for corner combos now? I mean off a Cr.Mp.

yea the whole f+mp,cr.mp was just theory fighting while looking at frame data. I did get a st.mp to land though but i’ve never been able to chain anything off of st.mp. Here is a vid of land a jumping hp after a ex joudan. It’s not a entire combo though.

Nice vid, you get a St.Mp off a F+MP? try and chain into St.Hp or Cr.Hk.

Combo off his overhead, it only works at close distances. F+MP, St.Lp, Cr.Mk, EX Joudan, Jp.Hp, St/Cr.Hp, HK Tatsu. Damage is 349 overall.

Most of Ryu’s easy-to-do combos with heavy damage are done in the corner. The usual ones that I know are:

Combo 1: jp.HK, cr.MK, lk.Tatsumaki Senpu Kyaku, hp xx hp.Shoryuken for 375 damage
Combo 2: jp.HK, cr.MK, EX Tatsumaki Senpu Kyaku, hp xx hp.Shoryuken for 399 damage
Combo 3. jp.HK, cr.MK, EX Tatsumaki Senpu Kyaku, hp xx EX Shoryuken for 423 damage
Combo 4: jp.HK, cr.MK, EX Tatsumaki Senpu Kyaku, cr.HP, Super Art for 510 damage
Combo 5: jp.HK, cr.MK, EX Tatsumaki Senpu Kyaku, cr.MK, HK.Tatsumaki Senpu Kyaku for 336 damage
Combo 6: jp.HK, cr.MK, EX Joudan Sokutou Geri, cr.HP, Super Art for 510 damage

As for non-corner combos, the ones I know are:

Combo 1: jp.MK/HK, cr.MK, lk.Joudan for 202/232 damage
Combo 2: jp.MK/HK, cr.HP, EX Joudan, jp.HK, HP.Shoryuken for 358/436 damage
Combo 3: jp.MK/HK, cr.MP, cr.MP, EX Joudan, jp.HK, HP.Shoryuken for 388/418 damage
Combo 4: jp.MK/HK, cr.MP, cr.MP, EX Joudan, jp.HK, cr.MK, HK.Tatsu for 374/404 damage
Combo 5: jp.MK/HK, cr.MP, cr.MP, EX Joudan, jp.HK, cr.MK, Super Art for 498/528 damage
