Legit reason for ryu not getting fake fireball: it could accidentally make new combos, a la viper’s feint cancels.
close HP xx fake fireball -> c.HP could combo. And if that happened, screw this game. For real.
I guess the thread is called “changes” and not “buffs” for a reason lol. I don’t think Ryu could get any better than he already is. The guy links cr mp’s like jabs for goodness sakes lol. Just give him his kick he had from 3rd strike (the step kick that bounces you off the wall) and he’s pretty much on par with Shenron the Eternal Dragon from DBZ lol
Actually this is a valid assumption. Using HDR as a reference point, he can cancel a whiffed sweep into fake fireball and he recovers faster than if he let the sweep finish.
Yeah but Sirlin’s version of a fake fireball is more like a Roman Cancel. :lol: It wasn’t that bad in the Alphas.
Not that SF4 doesn’t have a dozen legit reasons why Ryu shouldn’t have it.
Ryu is the most played character, but doesn’t do much better in tournaments than Boxer or Rufus. “God Tier” means a character with multiple 10-0’s. Calling a character who’s only matchup better than 6-2 is Dan a God Tier character is a waste of thread space.
His normals are quite good, but they don’t stand out among other high tier characters. Akuma’s are better, and his range isn’t amazing. His fwd & hp is great for punishes/crumple, but his damage is otherwise just okay. His access to untechable knockdowns from a cr.lk is really good, but in many matchups his sweep is too unsafe to just throw out, meaning he loses access to midrange untechable knockdown, and has less range than the other Shotos. His early lp anti-air is second only to rufus, yes, but high level SF play often doesn’t involve much jumping anyway. The only thing he has which really stands out is his srk -> Ultra, which essentially means nobody gets to pressure him for free ever, under any circumstances.
It’s not like this conversation hasn’t been had 15 times in this thread before. He’s not God Tier. I would argue he’s not even S Tier. He’s A tier, with Akuma, and maybe Rog/Rufus, below Sagat who’s S tier.
I seriously though this tread and the Sagat, Rog, and Gief threads would have been closed along time ago. I remember when they were created last year, and the first 5 pages where people writing some of the most funniest, sarcastic comments I have read in a while. Why such characters of there abilities and talents need a thread? They don’t! And the actual people who seriously wanted buffs…awhhhhhhh…they got picked on for it. Haha I loved it. It’s still funny people wanted Ryu and the other’s to have MORE to the equation. Even with other character buff’s, Ryu is still going to have Top slots for go-to characters that rule the tier charts.
I just want Ryu to have the Joudan Geri because I like it. 
If they somehow threw it in for him before the final release, I wouldn’t want it to be overpowered considering Ryu is already extremely solid as it is.

Seriously, yeah ryu is strong, but he does not have an easy matchup nor a hard matchup.
If the first hit of Ryu’s HP SRK doesn’t launch the opponent, I wonder if the first hit has enough hitstun that you could FADC the first hit and metsu shoryuken.

I think they already tried that at CES and said that the Ultra doesn’t fully connect, just like Ken.
