I agree that Ryu doesn’t need weaknesses even though every other character has them. The way to balance that out is to make sure nothing he has is that great either since he has so much. That is where the devs failed because, much as you seem to deny it, he definitely has a lot of the best things in the game. Whether its damage or speed or stamina or special properties or normals or pokes or footsies or ultra or super or escape tactics or difficulty to use or anything else you can think of, there isn’t a single thing that you can point out as bad, or even decent for that matter. In every one of these things he either ranks as the flat out best or top tier.
Again, that is not balance. Not when everyone else (save one character) is inferior in some way. Balance also isn’t having half even match-ups and half favorable match-ups. Simple math tells you why that puts Ryu top tier in the game.
And just fyi, none of this comes from any sort of “I lose to Ryu so I want him nerfed” place, so none of those typical “step your game up” responses apply. These are just objective comments on how the game is designed and what can be improved.

I’m not here to bitch, in fact, I play Sagat, so I essentially am unable to bitch. I just want to say Ryu’s match ups are really understated, he does not have 5:5’s across the board. Most of his match ups in reality are more like 5.5-4.5’s and 6-4’s. This is excluding Sagat who has the advantage on Ryu and Dhalsim as well. The current tier list has his match up with Vega and Rose at 6-4, that’s fucking laughable. He’s a monster of a character, he’s definitely not balanced.

Same for vega…knock him down, then option select meaty jumpin + red fireball if he hops back = round is OVER and there isn’t a goddamn thing claw can do about it.

ryu is good, but not OP. is cr.mk is really good, is walking speed is good, is stamina is normal, then is FA is normal is back dash is less than average is forward dash is less than average. he have nop set up as gessing game like abel or zanghief or even akuma with tatsu except with air tatsu to super. is throw is normal.
he have good combo and eally he can answer all situation , but don t make it sound like it easy. it s not.

ryu have mostly 5 5 match up, some 6 4 and some 4 6. if you think some match up should ne listed worst, there is some that should also be rated beter( chun li is defenetly no more 5 5 against ryu, even more with the GARANTED combo in the corner when ryu wake up).
stop bitchimg about ryu, having answer to every thing and tools doesn t make you OP as long as you have to react or create the situation. that basically what the game should be…
any way after seeing some of ssf4 footage, it s already seems that ryu haven t change a lot so he should be ok.

I would guess that Valle and Choi are the top two Ryu players. But I know of a whole group of solid Ryu players who are very very good but maybe not taking top three at Evo.

about sagat, i m not doing trashtalk, but let s be honest compare to how tp japanese player play sagat us player are still far.
I was speaking with sabin when he came in japan, and he was thinking the same.
Its not about speaking bad, is just that japanese top sagat players are a way of playing him muchh more elaborate.
even French player Alioune with sagat seems quite better than US one( and this comment is not coming from me but from many top US player after playing against him.)
my point is just that many people complain against ryu, but few have ever pklayed against a really strong one, and very few people manage to become really strong with him.
ryu is strong and defenetly don t need any buff up. he just need some change to make hoim more fun or more elabiorate to play. f.mk will be a great add .

Exactly, Ryu is fucking powerful as fuck, so is Akuma, but those two are REALLY understated in their match ups. Akuma is a god damned monster of of a character and he’s considered even more balanced than Ryu. It’s a joke, they’re being really conservative when estimating the match ups.
I find it funny that when people point out how amazing Ryu and Akuma are the Ryu and Akuma apologists either say “look at Sagat,” or “the match up chart says that they have 5-5’s across the board,” as a way of deflecting any kind of scrutiny on how amazing those character’s options are. Most likely, in the future we’ll get a match up chart that show’s the reality of how unbalanced this game actually is. Sagat, Ryu, and Akuma will be at the top, dominating most of the cast. I’m not saying that low tier can’t compete, this game is pretty balanced but not as much so as people think.
Oh, and to further sement that fucking joke of a match up chart, Rose has a 6-4 match up with Sagat. EL OH EL. That match up is closer to an 8-2 possibly a 9-1 when the match up gets fleshed out more. 6-4 my fucking cock.
Honestly, I have believed for a while now that Akuma is the best pound-for-pound character in the game, no questions.
I don’t want anyone to be nerfed, and I even don’t want any of Sagats options to be taken away trust me. I just want his damage on his ultra to get nerfed and his jump in combos (he can do 516 damage with three bars of ex meter). I want everyone to be as good as Sagat, Ryu, and Akuma. Those characters are fucking awesome specifically BECAUSE they are over powered. Their games are deep as a result of their awesome tools, I want EVERYONE in the game to be like them. The game would be much, much more fun that way. My only thing is that you shouldn’t go around saying that Ryu is sooooo balanced, that’s bullshit. He’s not, nor is Akuma, nor is Sagat.
Akuma is fucking God like. He’s almost as good as Sagat. People underestimate him because he’s hard to use, but I’ve followed a lot of japanese akuma’s for a while and holy shit when they play him you really see his power as a character.

Every character has a chance of winning no matter who you pick outside of Vega. Wasn’t everyone bitching about how Fei was ass and then Justin raped face with him? Now lots of people want to play Fei, a low tiered character, who was thought to be ass, and now is nasty. LEARN YOUR CHARACTER.
