i have to agree with his 'cMK avoids too many moves" comment. That shit is absurd.
What do you think about Chun’s crouching moves, or Akuma’s c.mk? Should they be raised as well?
how about blanka’s ducking hitbox?
Yes. It’s just stupid that a crouching kick at ground level should be a viable anti-air.
They’re nowhere near the same level as Ryu’s cMK, but yes, they do need tweaks as well. There are a ton of moves that get messed up hit boxes when used, and need minor fixes.
as for Blanka, that’s not an offensive move, so I’m okay with that one.
Nowhere near the same level? Akuma’s c.mk can duck projectiles. Chun’s c.mp is intentionally close to the ground. The hitboxes aren’t messed up. These moves were designed like that. I don’t understand this idea of balancing the cast by homogenizing their move sets.
This.
so allowing a move to dodge assloads of air moves (Bisons DR and Skulldriver come to mind right away) is completely fine, but tweaking a move so it no longer is immune to far too many moves (when it is already an amazing footsies tool, and links into many other moves) is fine…?
This is homogenizing characters movesets, this is balance pure and simple. Ryu has enough tools as is. Fixing his cMK so it is no longer the god of pokes isn’t going to kill him, and would help balance with the REST of the cast.
I love the mentality of some of the Ryu army. “Yeah, we’re fine with balancing the game, just so long as it doesn’t affect Ryu”
I wonder who this Ryu army is? Can’t say I’ve met any of them. Maybe they can give me some pointers.
I wanna see other characters brought up to the solid state Ryu currently is in their own particular gameplans. Right now, Ryu’s moves work well to serve the purpose of the character he’s supposed to be: fundamentally solid all around.
Basically, this:
I want to see my alternates, my soon to be alternates, and the rest of the cast in general, live up to the type of characters they’re supposed to be. I agree that Ryu has enough tools. Which is why he doesn’t need to lose any, and any new ones added shouldn’t be designed to do much more than switch up his playstyle a bit.
On the same token, the characters that don’t have enough tools need to be given enough to keep up with Ryu in SSFIV.
But Ryu does have retarded shit.
Press a button, now press another one. Did it combo? You bet your ass it did. Did it hurt? Hell yeah. And we all know some of the other things that have been mentioned non stop.
Personally i dont think balancing can be done in only one direction. There have to be nerfs and buffs, with a bit of each going into all characters.
My two cents.
If you give him more tools that don’t push any matchups further in his favour, you’re either the best game designer on the planet, or you’ve given him useless tools that were better left out.
If you give Ryu more tools, he has more options. More options means more power means further cementing him at A-tier above the rest of the cast. Since you’d have to buff the rest of the cast in relatively substantial proportions to overpass Ryu and bump him out of A-Tier, any further tools would be extraneous and seem like they’d cause a lot of balancing headaches.
IMO, there’s no reason to buff or nerf the A-Tier unless there’s severe, specific matchup discrepancies or moves not working as the developer intended (to a certain extent).
Clarify? I don’t know what you mean? All shotos are easy to combo with.
Nerfing Ryu doesn’t really sound right to me, since he’s pretty balanced. The only thing I would slightly adjust is lp DP. Trading and still getting Ultra is kinda ridiculous.
Other than that, I think other characters just need buffs to match Top A guys.
I do feel Sagat needs a nerf though…he’s just got some nonsense with him lol…
You actually discribed your beefs, at least I know what I am dealing with now. I’ve answered/responded to most of everything I deemed needing responding too, Who is hiding? I just hated and still hate how you don’t use quote cause the bold quoting is confusing to people just seeing your posts.
FADC on hit (not block, HIT) only effects completely how you would use DP FADC. You would HAVE to use it with some sense because you wouldn’t be able to cancel it into anything if blocked and get punished, like every other sf before this one with this system.
What other free set ups does Ryu have besides Trade/Early DP Ultra that is as useful as the mentioned? Fa xx ultra? Its ok, I guess. Same with j.mp xx ultra. Ok at best. Maybe you have some magic set up I don’t know about…but, I doubt it.
I didn’t mention RH Hurricane on block before cause, honestly, I wasn’t thinking about it. It was the least of my worries, so to speak. Not being able to block low inbetween is stupid. I would just change it so it is duckable after first hit, problem solved. As I said before, I really don’t care what happens to ex hurricane cause all its going to do is force me to combo it instead of it being thrown naked sometimes. Can I get it to be off the ground more on start up as a trade. not like asking you matters but, its shitty to have it stuffed by low moves sometimes. lol.
Why should he lose all of his decent pokes? I don’t understand that reasoning. Take the Hit Co dp or super off of c.mp. Otherwise its not that bad. If you played other sf’s, his c.mp has always been pretty good. St, 3s, sfa3, cvs2, ect. Hell even in xvs it was high priority starter into hop kick infinte lol. His sweep is not that bad either, its negative on block. He can’t 2 in 1 it into anything, if it didn’t give an untechable knockdown, I couldn’t see using it much. Sounds nitpicky. Make ken better vs making ryu weaker imo.
I don’t want Ryu to be better, I want him to be funner next revision. He is already fun, give him a Mule kick, take some shit, everyone hug and be merry. lol. I think I’m the most giving Ryu IN THIS THREAD by far, if you can’t agree with me on much of anything, you really aren’t going to get anywhere with anyone else hahah! We can play anything, what else you play? I can show you I know ryu across other games too
He’s probably referring to how Ryu has a bunch of links.
And err… hp DP also trades into ultra, and so does mp DP.
Ken can do it too btw :wgrin: lol.
This sounds good in theory if you don’t want characters to evolve or change in anyway. lol. Double post cause srk is funky posted from PS3 browser.
Dan can do it too, btw.
Trade DP > HK Danku > Crouching Taunt. The 600+ morale damage = Way too OP.
Well, it’d only be A-tier not changing.
Everyone else would be happy.
You raise a good point though. Not even I would want a character going stagnant.
Ken’s DP aren’t reliable as AA though, (MP is pretty good though) and as we all know his 2nd Ultra is :nono: lol…
But yeah, I dunno if that’s really good…If you miss your timing on DP a bit, you should be punished with no Ultra setups IMO. That seems a bit more balanced to me anyway.
I don’t like Ryu in that I don’t have fun playing him, but he’s a great character I think with one or two BS qualities. Here’s to hoping he’s more well rounded, that unpunishable Ex Tatsu is far from balanced. Give it invincible startup, not the other way around! It makes no sense that I can knock Ryu out of tatsu startup with any normal yet it is unpunishable on whiff. Maybe lk tatsu can be safe but not EX, that’s just ridiculous.
Also when I use DR as Bison, no crouching normal should make it whiff unless its a slide. What if I could just throw out a jab when you DP and you fly over me giving me a free combo? That’d be just as BS as the option Ryu has now.
Everyone is getting more stuff, according to Seth Killian.
Everyone is getting multiple Ultras. This is confirmed.
My suggestion:
Joudan Sokuto Geri (Mule Kick), HCF+K. Damage: 120,130,160. Only startup on LK and EX version are fast enough to combo into from fierces that are not counter hit or meaty. Leaves Ryu at disadvantage on block, with a decent punish window.
EX Version: Costs 50% meter. 140 damage. Wall bounces. Counts as 2 hits for damage scaling.
Metsu Shoryuken: More damage than Metsu Hadoken if landed fully (350-525 base damage). Full Ultra does not land on normal juggles. Full Ultra can only be combo’d into on crumple stun or wall bounce.
On juggle, block, or late hit, Ryu does a normal Metsu Shoryuken (sliding elbow followed by a Heavy SRK). 200-300 base damage. Weakest Ultra in the game.

No other changes.
Now, how does this push any matchup in his favor?
so you want single ex moves to take 2 ex stocks…
seems like you thought this one through…
