Ryu changes in SSFIV thread

Why would any bison player spam scissors when they can hit confirm it with his 3frame cr.lk or throw mixup?

honda has great aa defense. the last thing you want to do against a charged honda is jump.

what are you talking about? by saying this, you’re implying that you can tell when bison’s lk scissor kick will come out and hit him before it hits you. it’s a fast move and you can’t react to it fast enough. it’s also 0 on block, and puts vega (dictator) in a range he’s best at.

9272, i don’t think you really watched the video. i think you more, looked at it and made assumptions that fit your pre-existing point of view. because from what i saw mike ross (:pray:) wasn’t getting jumped in on by ryu cuz he was honda, he was getting jumped in on by valle because he was mike ross.

Looks like 9272 could get what he wants two ways:

a) Continue arguing with a legion of people who disagree with him, convincing everyone in the end because of his godlike logic until even capcom becomes convinced that they need to make drastic changes to things that the majority of people don’t have any real issues about because one clear thinking individual managed to see what all the unwashed masses never cottoned on to.

or

b) Make sure Capcom enables custom lobby titles and set his to “Please don’t hit me back :sad: … P.S. I know frame data!”

Option b) seems soooo much simpler and more sensible to me… but I might be wrong - I don’t have the frame data.

Its pretty pointless to even debate this, there is no denying that ryu is one beastly char in this game. Its like capcom saw 3S and saw how really good Ken players were doing in tourneys while hardly anyone picked Ryu besides a few players. lol They definitely went out of there way to really make Ryu good in this game. To good? Well thats debatable for the last 36 pages.

This reminds me of AAALLLL MvC2 balance debates that happened yrs ago. MvC2 players vs the MvC2 haters. All the classic posts saying MvC2 is BALANCED and all that stuff while all the mvc2 haters said it was pretty much always magnus/sent/storm/cable the entire time. This thread almost seems like the exact same thing!

I’m not sure exactly what you are talking about here, maybe I missed the context, but there ARE 100% safe jump setups against Ryu.

Chun has one guaranteed safe jump on him from anywhere on the screen after a forward throw, and she has an UNBLOCKABLE on ryu in the corner after a forward throw.

Also, I’m almost positive that others exist, I only know the ones for Chunner since she is my main and I always end up facing Ryus in tourney.

Cammy can do a few good trades wif ryu. I usually just build up special then use ex 2 close in. I usually don’t jump @ a ryu til he throws a hadou.

Not taking sides in this whole major Ryu argument between Redrapper and the troll, but does not having any bad matchups still show balance? Wouldn’t overall balance mean that every character has a few match-ups in their favor, a bunch of pretty straight up dead even matches and a few that aren’t in their favor?

I just don’t see how a character with zero bad match-ups can be called balanced. Sakura’s match-ups are all pretty much 5:5 or 4:6 with a few 6:4 even, is she well balanced?

I guess I am more curious about how balance is being used; because to me it seems like a character with no bad match-ups is stronger (i.e. not balanced). Just my opinion.

My personal feeling of “ideal” balance is when a character goes 5-5 on AVERAGE against the entire cast, but still has a few 4-6 and 6-4 matches.

Anything out into the 7-3 range is way out of balance.

By mathematical definition, if a character has NO bad matches then the only way he would be technically balanced is if EVERY match was 5-5.

In this topic: 9272 posts idiocy, and ignores all valid counterpoints to his ridiculous arguments.

Let’s move on to SSFIV Ryu.

I’d still like feedback on the changes I think he should have:

  • cr.MP 4 frame startup, make it even on block, and 1 more frame recovery.

  • SRK doesn’t trade. Either they beat out clean if done correctly, or get stuffed. (I don’t agree with being unable to link it to Ultra. The Metsu Hadoken would become near useless outside the corner were that the case. )

  • Fix EX Tatsu glitch, -5 on block. (Punishable, yes. Highly punishable, no. Spending 1/4 meter shouldn’t be a liability.)

  • Joudan Sokutou Geri, HCF+K. EX Wall bounces, Dmg scales 25% Automatically. Juggle properties on wall bounce, of course (I’d say EX takes 50% meter, but looking at Juri that doesn’t seem necessary. Just damage scale combos after that heavily.)

  • New Ultra, higher dmg, fewer (if any) combo options. (Metsu SRK?)

  • Shorten all reversal windows to 3 frames. (Not a Ryu nerf, but Ryu benefits from the 4 frame window as it is)

As for balance, Ryu’s not PERFECTLY balanced, but he’s a balanced character in general. Sure, he has no bad matchups, but he has no overwhelming advantages either, besides on Dan (which is Dan’s fault).

Plus, he’s just basic and well-rounded. He’s solid in all areas. Generally speaking, any disadvantage a character has on Ryu is due to that character’s shortcomings, not Ryu being overpowered.

i was under the impression that you couldn’t safe jump 3-frame moves (ryu srk) because you have 3 (or was it 4?) vulnerable frames on the ground if you threw out a jumping move?

I can see that. I would love to see characters strengthened instead of nerfing anyone. Although the general consensus amongst Guile (my main) players in the tourney scene is that Ryu/Guile is a solid 7:3, so I have a vested interest in how much certain characters get brought up. Personally, I like having bad match-ups. Fighting Sagat is fun as hell.

iirc it’s only 3 frame moves. The recovery from jumping normals is 3 frames.
