Ryu changes in SSFIV thread

If you examine the frame data you can start to see why he’s not the most balanced character in the game. If he’s perfectly balanced, who isn’t? What’s wrong with akuma?

Does it really take everyone who doesn’t main ryu to see whats wrong with having a character with the ultimate reversal than can answer to just about anything, a super that’s so braindead it can be mashed even from jabs, travels fullscreen, has more setups than his ultra that also has a ridiculous amount of setups, has the best pokes, one of the best crossups himself, some of the easiest combos, most links, escape from the corner at will…

Yea, how is that balanced? Make sure you answer please, the game would be broken as fuck if everyone got all that ryu has ; and i don’t doubt alot of people would like to see the fake hadoken added ontop of all that.

9272: would you do us all a favor and explain to everyone all the necessary frame data behind wake-up mindgame blocking. i would really like to know how many frames it takes my blocking to come out and how it can’t beat wake-up reversal srk.

So because you can bait the move it’s perfectly fine that it’s the answer to everything right? Good players are really easy to bait afterall, that’s why it’s balanced and takes such incredible advantage of absolute block, auto-correction, incredible combo ability, 3 frame startup and FADC.

Everyone should have something like that in addition to all other things ryu has…because you can bait him

shoes.

The move is good, but there are ways around it. Blocking and punishing is one, there are some specials that can shut it out on wakeup like Elfs throw thing spaced correctly.

And actually good players do get baited pretty often, it’s a part of the game. No one can guess right every time.

You’re an idiot. Welcome to Street Fighter. SRK has ALWAYS been like this and if you’re pretty much asking to take away it’s reversal capability and it’s invincibility frames, you’re ruining the whole point of the fucking move. Guiles flash kick is supposed to be somewhat similar, as is the Tiger Uppercut, as is Ken’s shoryuken. Honda’s fucking Headbutt has insane auto correct as well, what about that?

And the super? Are you brain dead? BAIT IT. I’ve read frame data smart ass, and I also play Gouken, who has a disadvantageous matchup to Ryu. You know what I do every time he tries to do a random reversal SRK? I block… OR-- if he’s mashing it out, I stop my block string early and catch him on that shit. The SRK is blatantly easy to punish if you know what you’re doing. If you don’t, you come to forums and try to act all smart by asking us to read frame data and proving nothing.

If you’re getting hit by SRK’s that much you’re doing something wrong. Anybody will tell you this.

Gonna have to agree with redrapper here, even if his tone is harsh.

There’s a good reason why Ryus’ matchups are pretty much all 5:5 and 6:4. It’s because he’s balanced.

i.e. Next to nothing about him is too good.

i.e. If you’re having difficulty against him, it’s your fault.

i.e. Man up, level up.

so much truth in this

I didn’t ask for it. I said it would be fun to see.

Couldn’t have worded it better myself.

Alot of people in this thread say don’t buff Ryu, well he’s getting buffed regardless. It’s necessary if all the other characters are getting improvements. Tiers shouldn’t dramatically change due to the changes or lack of changes Capcom make to their characters.

We’ve confirmed that all characters will get a second Ultra, someone in this thread already said that this will change the gameplay of many if not all characters.

The thing people need to know is that we should suggest changes that improve our overall experience with the character. For example alot of Claw players are sick of getting knocked down and losing fights - improving Claw’s wakeup game makes the experience of playing him more enjoyable. It should be the same for every character including the tiered ones.

I do not play Ryu regularly but he is SFIV. This shouldn’t change, he should remain the benchmark of the SFIV system. He doesn’t deserve to be nerfed, he deserves to be fixed just like everyone else.

You’re an idiot. Ken is supposed to have a better SRK than ryu but his starts up a frame slower, he also can’t just fall ass backwards into super or ultra like ryu can, only some of them using this very move. SRK hasn’t always auto-corrected and it sure as hell didn’t cancel block strings…REALLY? Kiss my ass for mentioning flashkick in the same way, WOW. Sagat is supposedly broken and his doesn’t start up as fast as ryus does and he sure as hell doesn’t have THAT many advantages, he can’t get out of anything and he’s not amazing at any distance. Lol honda has a weakness, you could fake a crossup and bait that ultimate headbutt, probably why noone but you would dare compare these moves, does he get a free ultra if it hits? Nope. How about reading comprehension? The fucking move isn’t all that’s wrong, it’s just easy for trained monkeys to see what’s wrong with the character based on just how strong one move is. What was wrong with akuma again? Let’s hear it.

And the super? Are you brain dead? BAIT IT.

My eyes seriously went wide open here. How the fuck…lol…are you a comedian? It’s fair that it can combo from nearly anything,mashable,+11 on block and 3 frame startup…because you can bait it…WTF?! Were you high when you wrote this? I should quote this post in my forum sig if it was allowed…who the fuck is gonna be baited into using the super given that any braindead idiot can COMBO it.

The fact that you can bait out an army of idiots doesn’t make a move balanced buddy, maybe if it weren’t the same guys saying this character with about every advantage and NO disadvantage(not even by mistake) is perfectly balanced. Not only that, but you completely failed to answer important questions.

i.e. Next to nothing about him is too good.

Unless you actually go over the frame data, maybe go to practice, and then compare what you find to other characters; And that’s why i mentioned the frame data. Why is the one character in the game who’s elite at about everything balanced when everyone else has a clear weakness? If you don’t know about some of this then why oppose having it brought in line? Clearly you never took advantage of it to begin with so you won’t miss it.

I’m waiting for the wall bounce to an ultra through his SFIII mule kick, lol.

Fake hadoken.

2-frame crouching jab. One can dream.

ever since seth announced wall bounce i figured ryu would get his kick… but in all honesty he doesn’t need it so i hope there are buffs all around for balance… as for fake hadoken? doesn’t belong in this game

I don’t think I would mind the mule kick --> wall bounce --> ultra if there was a cost of meter behind it (like a FADC). I’ll be interested in capcom’s take on it (if they do implement the move)

Damn, that was brutal.

what about it was brutal? it’s an improvement thread isn’t it? this is how you improve ryu!

If most of his matchups are 5:5 and 6:4, that averages out to 5.5:4.5 (roughly), which is a sign that he’s a little too good compared to the rest of the cast- in SFIV. Not broken by any stretch, but that’s not perfectly balanced. There’s a reason he is considered #2 in the game.

That can be fixed without nerfs, though, or you can give him a mix of buffs and nerfs while giving weaker chars buffs, which is the best solution to high/top-tier chars.

To state an opinion, these are not sufficient reasons to keep a move or property the way it is now.

  1. That’s the way it’s always been.
  2. Get better at the game.
  3. As long as the opponent can be tricked into using it, it’s not overpowered.

The idea that anyone noting anything unusual out of the game is a scrub is a poor mentality. It prevents fair evolution of a fighting game series. Some people have dug their heels in so far into this mentality that “the game is the game and nothing can ever change that” that they’re willing to accept some of the most crazy and unintended components of a fighting game ever.
