I doubt that’ll happen, it’d be an awesome mechanic to turn the tides of reversal. But can you imagine SF4 actually having such a good wakeup option for every character after a throw. Against newbie’s you’d just FA constantly over and over, they’d be at a loss if they didn’t know how to backdash on wakeup. Then again, that could be the secret reason to buffing Ken’s Fierce DP, oh the conspiracy!!
The attacks haven’t sped up. Its the crumple that has.
The FADC system made Ryu’s SRK a little too powerful. You could punish pokes from mid-screen >FACD > Ultra for big damage. You try that with anyone else and unless they use lp version, the last hits will whiff, leaving you open. Now you can argue about Sagat’s TU as you can punish pokes for big damage aswell, but Sagat already had weaknesses in Vanilla, and he suffered some added nerfs aswell.
Since Ryu has superior FB’s Ken should have the superior SRK. This is the way its always been. Ryu can afford to lose priority on normal SRK. The guy is still quite solid.
Not sure if this applies to everyone, but I thought it was stated that all FA’s come out faster. Its definietly been confirmed in some vids for certain characters. Unless they decided not to give it to Ryu aswell.
Ryu has always had a good dp so i dunno what u talking bout.
Cool story, when did I ever say his dp was bad?
yeah his dp is looking like ass. That alone is going to hurt him a lot.
It’ll hurt him but it’ll balance out his playstyle aswell. EX-SRK was rarely used in Vanila so now it will serve a higher purpous.
do u even play ryu?
Not sure how making it much easier to jump in on him is balancing him out but I hope someone can explain that. I would be interested in knowing because I am no where near good at this game.
Have you tried using Ken?
There’s a difference between easy to jump-in on and free on wake-up. Lp SRK is still a good AA that can lead into both ultra and super. You also still have Cr.F. As for wake-up you have EX-SRK. Decent players don’t spam SRK on wake-up anyway. Learn to crouch tech and master your spacing, like so many other players had to.
I understand trying to fix spamming srk but nerfing it to point where its a crappy anti air is retarded, right? C.hp sucks as an anti air and mostly works for predictable jump ins and you have to be spaced right. It also comes out slow.
I just think its going to be silly having an anti air such as a dp that constantly trades with normals even when timed correctly. I wish someone who has a good amount of experience with ryu can test it out or just wait 2 weeks
No one is saying it needs to be shitty as an AA, and it doesn’t even seem like a bad AA in Super, you just have to anticipate people more. Using a deep F.SRK to punish jump-ins is just not ideal anymore since it will trade.
This however does not mean he no longer has an AA, because he does, and its still great.
I don’t so much agree with making SRK trade with everything as much as I thought it needed to be 2 hits. 2-hits solves alot of problems. Invincibility being taken away? Not so much, it just cripples his wake-up options, which was not necessary.
I hope there is juggle abilities with his new srk. Maybe j.mp to F.SRk?
For real?It comes out slow?It has 4 frames of startup, aka THE FASTEST cr.fierce in the game.
If your basing your judgement on Ryu’s dp on that video of Ryu vs Juri then I suggest you dont. That Ryu was awful, so its likely his timing was just as bad. When you use a DP you should always attempt to hit the opponent during the invincibility frames. As you long as you hit them during these frames, you’ll be fine. If we discover that his invinci frames have been nerfed then we can say that his DP has been nerfed, until then, we just have to wait and see. There seems to be lots of new super sf4 videos of the new characters, but not many for Ryu.
Are you sure that fierce srk trades? You said deep, which I’m assuming you mean hitting the opponent during the invincibility frames (normally hitting them whilst Ryu is grounded).
Invincibility frames being taken away! where did you get your info from about this? As far as I know, the frame data hasnt been released yet.
The 2nd hit of the DP is simply there to spread the damage output of his fierce/medium dp’s over 2 hits and therefore if you fadc after the 1st hit, you lose out on the damage from the 2nd hit. I dont think the 2nd hit will have any upper body invincibility frames (maybe lower body invinci) as he is airbourne at that point.
However Ryu turns out, he wont be lower tier, prob mid tier, which is fine. A dp nerfe in terms of startup/invinci frames would completely change Ryu’s gameplay style, no more fireball into DP traps, his matches will depend solely on c.mk xx fireball. I dont think Capcom would nerf Ryu that much, he wasnt exactly exeptional in vanilla. Like I said somewhere before, Ryu’s nerfes are a result of Daigo’s success. Besides Daigo, how many other Ryu players get to major finals?
Alex Valle at Warzone
John Choi at Devastation
And 3 out of Korea’s top 4 at their nationals using ryu (including Poonko their champion) didn’t help either.
So yeah, I don’t think it’s entirely cuz of Daigo. I think it’s more of the stuff that was universally deemed stupid by default. And when you think about it, trade into ultra and random SRK FADC ultra were really the only two things about Ryu that you could argue was really stupid or too good. They decided to fix that. I may not agree with the magnitude at which they decided to fix it at, but it does remove anything that’s braindead about Ryu.
I agree that some things definately needed nerfing/removing. These are the only things I believe should have been removed:
- trade dp into ultra I (that should never have been allowed to begin with for any character)
- not being able to Super whilst a fireball was already on screen
- nerfing the dp damage output (considering damage output was nerfed across the board)
Making mp/hp dp 2 hits is a bit of an unusual one for me. On the one hand the damage output has been nerfed even further because if you decide to fadc after the 1st hit, you lose out on the damage output of the 2nd hit. On the other hand, because its now a 2 hit, it can be used to break focus attacks. There seems to be quite a long delay between the 1st and 2nd hit of the dp so maybe opponents will be able to focus absorb the 1st hit and still have time to dash cancel the 2nd hit.
If they removed/reduced the invincibility frames on the mp/hp dp’s then this would be a step too far. If a non-ex dp is not a reliable AA anymore then the only time I can see it being used is within combo’s. Maybe capcom want us to use ex DP’s as reliable AA’s! We’ll find out the extent of Ryu’s nerfs in a couple of weeks. I know Sagat got nerfed but he got a new move (angry scar), which hasnt been explored to its full potential yet and could potentially make him OP all over again. Ryu on the other hand got nothing new, just nerfs.
People that have tested the game stated that Ryu’s SRK’s traded with meaty jabs on wake-up, and overall notced that SRK got stuffed/traded alot more often.
If thats true then Ryu has been well and trully messed up.
