there’s a vid that shows that trade srk in corner to ultra doesn’t connect. also, sagat’s tu can still trade into f.rh ultra anywhere on the screen, but “supposedly” it’s only off of an early trade. i wish i had the vid now… but it’s in a vid of a pirated copy of ssf4.

I’m not really sure what to tell you. Ryu is in tourny finals pretty often, there’s nothing to argue here. He’s a good character, deal wit it.
I’d think it was pretty obvious. Daigo won because he’s a good player, not because Ryu’s a good character.
No, there isn’t anything to argue. Define “pretty often”, and exactly what tournaments you’re talking about, and then you’re actually saying something worth anybody’s time. Looking at all the major and local tournaments I see, I don’t see Ryu winning many at all.

with sagat your goal is to avoid playing footsies, you should not have footsies in your game or very few.
just avoiding and dealing with st mk st lk into TS or TK to push back your opponment.
with ryu you have to play footsies, walk forward to able to pressure with cr mk hado cr mk SLS. so you have to care about this part.

I see a lot of Sagat. I see Rufus if Justin Wong or Marn was involved. In my local scene, we’ve got this beast Ken player that goes by the name of Dr. Chaos. Then there’s this Honda player that calls himself Skye T. Usually it’s one of them, and Philly-One (Cammy), now and again. Sanford Kelly came down to one of our bi-monthlys and bodied us all with Sagat. Him and Andre (Bison).
Ryu’s a great character, but for somebody who’s supposed to be so easy mode powerful, I sure don’t see a whole lot of top players using him, much less winning with him.

Been shit a long time. Whenever you get a good discussion in here, in come the naysayers, haters, and trolls. Hell, if it wasn’t for that sticky saying not to create any more character threads, I’d suggest starting a proper thread to talk about Ryu changes, as this one started off on the wrong foot and hasn’t been right since.
Ryu is easy to use and powerful. Who gives a fuck about tournament placings. He doesn’t place top often because everyone knows the Ryu match up best and he has a bad match up with Sagat. Also, No body, or at least me, would try to say that anyone can pick him up and beat someone like Wong.

Point being “easy to use” is not the same as “easy to win with”. While you can say all you want about him being the former, it doesn’t matter if he’s not the latter, which he definitely isn’t.
