Ryu changes in SSFIV thread

Daigo has always used shotos in games where there’s been a shoto capable of winning tournaments, which just happens to be most of them. He didn’t use shotos a great deal in CvS2 where, although Ken was good, there were many better options. He didn’t use shotos in CFJ either. And the fact that he used a shoto in 3S is almost irrelevant since 3S shotos have pretty much nothing in common with shotos in every other game

I meant if he turns out better in SSF4 than ryu given the nerfs they gave ryu and the speculations of buffs on ken, then yes he will switch to ken, I know ken is ass in SF4 now.

Why you making a list where none of it is gonna happen, you’re just wasting your time.

if you guys want to split hairs Ryu let me rephrase this: he is in the ST equivalent of B tier. He’s not in S tier like Akuma nor in A like boxer and sim.
he’s in the same tier as Dictator and Chun. (see below).
As a Chun and Dictator main I can tell you that those in the B tier can do fairly well but really have to work against some people and tend to have a couple of of less than favorable matchups. This is what I mean by far from Top. He’s generally placed a little bit above the midpoint ( if you do the math he’s 7th from the top which means he’s the 10th out of 17 which means he ranks in the 58th percentile… that’s far from TOP IMHO).

Broken:
Akuma

Top:
O.Sagat
Dhalsim
Boxer
Claw

Upper:
Chun
Ryu
Dictator

Middle:
Deejay
Guile
Ken

Lower-Mid:
Honda (he gets killed by fireballs, but does OK against Sim, and does well against everyone without one)
Fei-Long
Zangief

Bottom:
Old Hawk
Blanka
Cammy

I don’t even know why I’m arguing this… like dwd said this is pretty goddamn arbitrary.

What nerfs? Dp hitting twice now, that’s about it.

Not really a wish list,

These moves already existed in past SF games so who knows.

But it lost invincibility on every one except ex. Or so we’re hearing.

He will stick with Ryu because he’s still top 5.

Who knows what, the game is already finished

If Supers do more damage across the board then that’d be a decent buff for Ryu as we all know his Super is very good. Bumping the damage up to 350 would be welcome addition and considering Supers don’t suffer from extra damage scaling like Ultras he’d actually deal more damage from a juggle into Super then into full Ultra(if that stays the same)

As for Ultras don’t less damage across the board. Well I hope they leave Ryu’s Ultra 1 damage output alone. It’s already one of the weakest Ultras in the game and since he’s losing damage from his DP when FADC’d into Ultra I don’t think it’s necessary to weaken it even more. If Fierce SRK does 100 damage now on first hit and you FADC into Ultra that’s 418 damage at most. I think that’s fair damage for using up 2 bars and having your Ultra meter maxed out.

Who won the first national A3 tourny and beat Alex Valle with V-Akuma? Daigo. Until then, it was all A-ism Dhals and X-ism rolento. I agree BAS took Akuma to the next level but it was the beast who initially made everyone realise he’s top.

But bas created the v-ism combos. Didnt daigo have to beat bas in a v-akuma mirror to play valle? Thats like saying because subaru makes rly good cars that means they predate GM. And daigo only picked up guile after swagger jacking john choi in cvs2(prob before 90% of you posters time).

I just noticed in the sagat thread people are saying ryu destroys him now and in thhe ryu thhread you guys are saying sagat rapes ryu now…hah.

well, technically no. what he said is more like “while Magnavox made the first video game console (the Odyssey) it wasn’t until Atari that consoles were seen as a solid business plan and it wasn’t until the NES that consoles became mass market”.

Oh ok the “Led Zepplin is one of the greatest band of all time even though they stole verbatum from other bands and blues musicians.” Stuff only counts when its from a name eh?

I’d like to say no but sometimes people don’t pay attention to the smaller guys. For a lot of players Japanese SF scene is basically Daigo, Mago and Momochi but there are scores of really really good players there. Thing is most people don’t know this and they get drawn to the big guys. It sort of applies here as well, regrettably.
As for the whole Zepplin thing it’s probably more appropriate… in many ways SF is like music - there are notes and chords to learn and there’s a great deal of improvisation and inspiration from other players. Unfortunately yeah, sometimes an artist will do a cover of a much more obscure song and people will associate the song with that musician rather than the original composer. Similarly it’s probably true that Daigo was inspired by bas’s Akuma and used it as the foundation on which to build his v-akuma. The thing is Daigo was the one to bring the style to prominence by sheer virtue of how well he adapted and applied the style. It sucks but it’s the way it is.

We should merge the threads.

The ensuing flame-war would be legendary.

Oh my lord, this isn’t on topic but that would be the greatest thread ever.

well this is way off topic but if youre going to say someone “invented” v-akuma that is literally bas. it doesnt matter who won the first national tournament. bas discovered like all v-akuma’s shit and then daigo won a tournament with it. bear in mind that’s only one single elimination tournament though, that doesn’t really even prove that daigo was better than bas.

Maybe they’ll find a way to e-kill each other and the world will be a better place.
