That would be negated by a freeze unless there was a nice amount of invincibility after the freeze; which makes no sense. I think Ryu is going to be just fine. He is like a rich kid that did poorly on a math test. he will be grounded for a week, and then realize that he can afford to have a pile of jet-skis catapulted into a man-made volcano while his servants bring him snacks. Yeah I’m liking the change of trades to Super Turbo status. Both characters just recover from an air to ground trade at the exact same time like in ST so the trade only favors whoever did the more damaging move or evens out if both moves did the same damage and giving a slight advantage to whoever has more health. Viper has so many ways to land ultra once you learn her execution that trade to Ultra isn’t going to be a big deal.
You’re a fucking idiot if you don’t see Ryu’s nerfs severely hurting his game against Sagat. Sagat lost nothing against Ryu from Tiger knee blockstrings since Mago doesn’t even use them anymore against Ryu. Sagat lost, what, 100 stamina? Ryu lost DP priority which makes the “SRK > Ultra” threat almost non-existant unless its EX SRK > Ultra, and even then you’re spending 3 bars for mediocre damage.
Just to add this in…in the stream Mr.Wiz confirmed that a HUGE part of SFIV (especially Ryu and Sagat) is now gone. People worried about Sagat or Ryu still sitting on trade shoryus into whatever or into ultra or the usual is now done for. Air to ground/AA trades have been reduced to Super Turbo status. No more juggling during trades. Both people recover at the same time from an air to ground trade so the trade is just a matter of who did the higher damage move or who has more health.
You don’t play the character, you don’t know anything about the character. Who’s the idiot? Noone who can play ryu really gives a damn about any of that at all.
Oh? And why the hell doesn’t he do that? Probably because he played a ryu who actually knew the deal and not a vega player who picked him up for two minutes. Now, without a cancel off of standing lk, sagat has basically next to no pressure on ryu from close or midrange, and an EXTREMELY negligible “advantage” at far range depending on how much meter ryu has.
You say that like it’s not a big fucking deal when you’re playing against someone who can land an ultra as easy as ryu can, has ryu links, has ryus ambiguous crossups, has ryu’s escapes, has ryu’s zoning, and don’t forget his amazing super that sagat can’t do anything about.
Pretty sure you don’t know about any of those things, but yea, 100 health is HUGE. Give ryu 100 extra health and see if it doesn’t make a difference.
Like sagat needing to power up his uppercut and then pray for the same against ryu? No…that doesn’t count…
I really think there is no hope for you. The fact that you suggested that Sagat cant do anything about Ryu’s super, acting like its free damage, is astounding. Also, Good Ryu and Sagat matches usually result in Ryu landing an ultra because A) SRK FADC or B) Trade. How often do you see good Sagats get hit with j.mp or EX tatsu in corner? Rarely. Even thugh Ryu can connect ultra off alot of scenarios doesn’t mean all of them are useful in high-level play.
Like how Sagat doesn’t need to power up his TU to still have great priority, and how it can still FADC > F+HK > Ultra for good damage? Ryu can do that t- oh wait…Ryu’s SRK is now ass and trades with no option to ultra afterwards.
Negligible? Sagat has faster fireballs, a normal Anti-Air that combos into ultra, and a bigger punish area for jump-ins thanks to Kara TU. What’s Ryu’s answer for jump-ins? Early timed DP for 50 damage max? Unless Ryu has atleast 3 bars and ultra he won’t be able to do anything compared to what Sagat can.
Ah yea, i totally forgot sagat has the fastest jump in the game, fastest overall movement, and massive ability to change his air trajectory so that he can dodge such a fast fireball anytime he wants.

Meanwhile, ryu’s crossup, close, mid, and even far range game are destroying sagat for the rest of the match. If you’re really quiet…you can hear praying.
Yea,ryu can simply duck sagats high fireballs. You ever try ducking genius? You ever watch a Guile vs sagat video? Well just so you know, Guile is a charge character and sagat can’t even destroy a competent GUILE like that so how the fuck is he gonna do it to ryu? GUILE can outfootsy sagat so how the fuck is he gonna outfootsy ryu? I mean i know you play vega and all, but wow. I can go to training mode and in 30 seconds i can find out whether or not ryus tatsu flies over low tiger shot to smack sagat in the face for more pain than he’s felt in more than 11 years.

What about the damage of his DP? I understand the first hit does very poor damage, but does the 2nd make up for it? As in does the damage of both hits add up to what it is in SF4? (or does anyone know yet)
Yeah the damage of both hits should add up to what it was in SFIV. Though the trade off if you’re trying to combo into Ultra is that the first hit of Ryu’s shoryu is the only one that can FADC into Ultra and the first hit only does like 80 damage. So that will nerf his overall damage on shoryuing into Ultra.
I’m pretty sure Ryu is still going to be able to do deep DP’s against jump ins. It’s just trade into Ultra doesn’t work anymore since both characters recover at the same time now.
