i dont agree with this at all. predictability is something that can plague any person playing any character, and far more so with characters with linear games like balrog or guile. ‘tricks they haven’t seen before’ won’t cut it once a game’s been out for a number of years. are you really telling me that in that once sfiv has been out for five or so years that top players won’t have seen everything, or learned all their matchups?
ultimately what’s going to count in the end are your character’s options; either you have simple but effective ways of confirming a ton of health (3s chun), a deadly enough mixup that you’ll catch even top players (mvc2 magneto), or just absurdly solid offensive options (safe jump OS srk, srk fadc / sfiv ryu).
No, I don’t think so. Some, yes. A lot? No, and I think all the little “good” things and buffs they gave Ryu (combined with the game mechanics) add up to a great big pile of easy-mode. It reeks.
Doesn’t his tier placement speak for itself? Would you not rather he go down a few notches (along with the other top guys) to even things out a little?
As flattering as it is to hear you’re having wet dreams about me, if you’re a guy I’m sorry, but I don’t swing that way.
Meaning you’re mad because you have nothing to say? Can’t say I’m surprised.
Though you might be at how little time and effort it takes to respond to people here, especially if they’re as unoriginal as you are. I appreciate the concern, but my life is great. I don’t need another one.
Fixed game mechanics are all that’s necessary in that respect. The lower characters need to go up a few notches more than Ryu and the rest of the top need to come down. Those alone even things out by themselves.
All Ryu’s tools should be good, and worth using. So should everyone else’s. A tool not worth using is a tool not worth having, and as they are, none of Ryu’s tools are more than the rest of the cast can manage.
As for his tier placement, all that speaks for is that he’s a great character, and there’s only one in this game better than him. So? It’s a list; somebody’s going to be on top. And the breakdown yields nearly all 5-5s and 6-4s, with only one 7-3 (Dan), and only one 4-6 (Sagat).
I don’t know how many fighters you play, or how many tier lists you look at, but out of a 25 character roster, that’s really well-balanced.
I don’t see a point in complaining about the top tier just because they’re on top. Everybody can’t be on top.
The game machanics? Really? The rest of the top need to come down, but NOT Ryu? Just Ryu should remained completely untouched? Honestly, it really seems that you are just incredibly opposed to any changes to Ryu, regardless of anything else.
I guess you think he is absolute perfection, the pinnacle of character design? I would have to disagree, but to each his own.
…and I think his plethora of awesome tools should be tweaked a little to make them little less good, and I still believe that they would be **more **than adequate. He’d still be crazy good. Just a little more “honest”.
So, it means that he’s one of the best in the game, and deserves a couple little taps from the nerf bat to make him not so best-in-the-game-ish in the next iteration, to keep it interesting.
I said neither Ryu, nor the rest of the top need to come down as much as the lowers need to be brought up. You misread me. Sagat’s lower damage and health is more than enough of a nerf for him, and he’s on god tier. The top tiers need few changes, if any.
Why does he need to be made more “honest”? You still have to work for his wins, his tools aren’t OP, he’s not dominating the game, and the characters that he has advantages on are getting buffed for the most part. So why does he need to be nerfed in addition to that? Especially after the early looks at the new characters, like Dudley.
From a balance standpoint SFIV is already interesting. It’s balanced enough that any character is good enough to hang with the top tier. And if the other characters get the buffs they need to be completely good characters, Ryu’s already very balanced matchups balance out even more, even if you leave Ryu the same.
His 2-hit SRK is going to lead to lower damage output on his SRK > FADC > Ultra, and possibly get rid of trade Ultra. They tightened up the execution on his Ultra juggles. Why would he need any more nerfing than that? Especially if the game mechanics are tweaked to boot?
I don’t really care if they took that out but I just want someone to confirm if sagat’s trade into ultra was removed as well. I very much doubt it though since you can just F.hk into ultra after trade which is more BS…I think ryu got nerfed more than he should have but what’s done is done lol
Yeap, they should just make his f.HK not be able to connect from a TU trade/FADC and non-comboable into ultra.
Anyway, Ryu isn’t that godlike but he’s definitely high-tier and I disagree with most of the “buffs” the TS has mentioned that Ryu “needs”. Obvious troll is obvious tho.
With the roster getting 10 new characters, people are still going to pick Ryu (or Ken) 90% of the time. The size of this thread proves it. I don’t understand why he’s so popular.
Ryu: Ryu’s Medium and Hard Dragon Punches hit twice now. Damage is down on it, but if you Focus Attack Dash Cancel, you only get one hit from it, so damage is down even farther. Trades into Ultra from Dragon Punches are gone, and most trades into Ultra from Street Fighter 4 are gone, but not all. Puts you in a floaty state, and you can’t combo after wards
how come ryu’s srk fadc ultra is basically buried while sagat’s can still do his no problem?
i guess the silver lining here is that since ssf4 won’t be getting an arcade release, capcom is free to patch the game over the coming months/years after the game’s release.
Capcom has more sense than the people most of us have argued with in the thread it seems.
I heard sagat can no longer cancel some moves and has 100 less health so that’s the greater nerf. I wish capcom would just OFFICIALLY list the changes they made:(
dont be fooled by corparate doublespeak. at one point they were saying there wasnt going to be a super sf4 period. wait till after japanese nationals. its coming.
as far as fadc, they said ulta damage was reduced overall, so that means sagat too. also, you could safe jump sagat before, and you couldnt vs ryu
