Ryu changes in SSFIV thread

A rufus player responded this way when asked whether or not they were “mad” that ultra 2 wouldn’t have the combo-ability of their 1st ultra. Just another look at why their thread for their top tier character is only 7 pages and this one is 120.

Yeah I agree, it’s really funny seeing Shoto’s do the easy input “bop” up and down hoping I do a Hassen Shu or Jump in. I don’t jump in on Shoto’s unless I can catch them off guard (Throw them off). I don’t think i’ve been AA DP in awhile. Quite awhile actually. People only get smarter.

Yeah, one Rufus player. That’s also because jump back fierce is a good option to stop or mitigate Rufus’ rushdown. An option that he can only stop with a yomi j.HK. Which isn’t entirely reliable if, as the Rufus player said, the normal his opponent is jumping back and mashing beats j.HK.

Not only does that mean that Rufus’ Ultra 2 may have a use for something he doesn’t normally have (unlike a 10 frame AA for Ryu), Rufus’ ultra 2 also apparently stays active for a comparatively long amount of time, and probably doesn’t need to hit on startup to deal good damage (unlike Metsu SRK).

Now, what was your point again?

U2 for Ryu is useless, imo. Would Rather have a Denjin that did 100dmg and 500-700 Stun depending on charge. Promotes a more aggressive Ryu play, which is what more people seem to want rather than turtle Ryu which people seem to hate???

2-Hit SRK is a nerf. Significantly reduces the damage that comb+SRK FADC does, without really affecting the core of Ryu play. This means that Ryu has to work a little extra hard to get that win, which is a good thing???

2-Hit SRK as a focus breaker is really dumb but genious at the same time since Ryu cannot FADC it, and would help score a knockdown on ex-armor pressure. Ryu does not need this.

SF2(which ever version Ken/Ryu split to SSFT2/HDR):

Ryu had an allround more solid set of normals
Ken had a faster Hurricane Kick, and more damaging SRK
Ryu’s SRK had much better priority than Kens
Ken’s throw game put Ryu to shame
Both Ryu and Ken walk, jump at the same rate

Where you Ken players get that Ken was faster than Ryu I do not know? Check SF2’s frame data and go to training mode instead of saying things that are untrue. I guess Ken’s hurricane kick gives him the illusion of being faster than Ryu…

SF3:

Capcom tried to make Ryu the Sagat of SF3, I am assuming all this talk of Ken’s faster than Ryu, had better normals than Ryu came from this. Which is not the way Ryu ever was until that time. SF2 Ryu is the way Ryu should be.

SF4 Ryu is SSF2T Ryu with a fireball nerf, a sweep nerf and a hurricane kick nerf. Add some cvs2 style links and chains and there you go. Maybe I am exaggerating, but to say that Ken was always better than Ryu in everything that is fundamental to Ryu play is kinda stretching it, especially when the tiers only reflect your statement in 1 game, SF33rd Strike.

For the Ryu Lovers:
Ryu needs nothing, absolutely nothing. To ask for more is silly.

2-Hit SRK addresses a number of your concerns

Are you sure about these? Ryu can FADC an EX shoryu after the second hit.

Can someone confirm that EX Shoryuken can be FADC’d after second hit? If thats the case that is broken.

Of corse you can. How is it broken? Is it just so amazingly good that nobody ever uses it because it’s just too godlike to witness without passing out? It cost 3 meters and does LESS damage than just using a HP SRK.

I know it’s going to be useless in the long run if start-up is slow as hell. I was just commenting on Trolle’s post that it would be easier to use as an AA for players who are just picking up the game. My point was, a noob who’s been playing the game for a week is probably going to have more success AAing with a slow-ass ultra 2 that can be mashed out, rather than with an SRK FADC ultra that he has absolutely no hope of pulling off outside of training mode. We all know a 3-frame SRK FADC ultra works a lot better, but only if the person playing can do it consistently.

That being said, it’s going to suck if its only use is as a crap anti-air.

I thought that sounded weird so I checked it out. Ken’s mp dp in HDR is completely invulnerable on the way up. Like the whole way up. His dps become active much faster than ryu’s and they recover quicker too.
I understand people don’t use HDR as canon but I thought I’d point that out.

I think the 2hit SRK actually helps ryu btw. He can now hit confirm into whatever he needs a little easier (either FADC to avoid a punish or to confirm into a combo).

About Ryu’s 2 hit SRK, I honestly don’t see how it’s a nerf unless you can’t FADC after the 2nd hit. It’ll armor break and allow you to hit confirm the SRK. People say it’ll do less damage unless you get both hits, this kind of boggles my mind. If your opponent jumps at you and you hit the SRK deep, it should still have invincibility so it won’t trade and you should get the 2 hits for full damage. Doing it too early for partial damage doesn’t mean anything because SF4 Ryu only does 70 damage if you SRK too early. If that and the full SRK damage stay the same then I guess it could be 90 damage on the 1st hit and 70 on the 2nd. Going by the footage we’ve seen so far, Ryu still has both feet planted after landing the 2nd hit of his fierce SRK. So I think it’ll work like his EX SRK which can be FADC’d after the 2nd hit. But who really knows until it’s confirmed. I can’t believe it’s stuff like this that we’re most eager for but they refuse to divulge the info.

…uh ya. you cant fadc after 2nd hit, at least in the current build, didnt mr. wong confirm this a while back

NO Armour breaking on first hit is the nerf from what I understand. It if you can fadc off the second hit then i guess it balances its self out.

Oh crap, man that kind of sucks. Well there is still MP SRK, unless that is also 2 hit and can’t be FADC’d after the 2nd hit.

It’s not really that big a deal. SRK only Armor breaks on reversal currently, and if reversals still break then SRK reversal will still break on hit 1. FADCing HP or Mp SRK will do less damage, because you have to do it on hit 1.

A damage nerf without being a real damage nerf.
