It’s only a dumb idea if you’re only looking at how good the game will be. I’m sure the game will break a million or two in sales based on the concept alone.
If they can make the game fluid and actually allow them to jump ( not little air hop shit) . I could see them making a decent 3d or 2.5 d game . Akuma vs Bryan Fury would be a sick ass matchup . I could play theory fighter all day with this game in question.
I come up with a list of twenty SSFIV characters and their possible Tekken 6 rivals. Anyone care to make alterations?
Ryu…Jin Kazama
Ken…Lars
Chun-Li…Asuka Kazama
Guile…Paul Phoenix
Zangeif…Jack
Dee-Jay…Eddy Gordo
Cammy…Nina Williams
Fei-Long…Marshall Law
Vega…Yoshimitsu
Sagat…Bruce Irvin
M. Bison…Heihachi Mishima
Akuma…Bryan Fury
Sakura…Ling Xiaoyu
Gen…Feng Wei
Dudley…Steve Fox
Guy…Raven
Juri…Hwoarang
Hakan…King
C. Viper…Anna Williams
Seth…Kazuya Mishima
Bryan can’t handle Akuma, sry.
If Capcom makes it, hurf durf
If Namco makes it, blah blah blah
hella stupid posts in this thread.
Yeah. My first thought was Kazuya as Akuma’s rival. But then I needed someone appropriate for Seth. Probably easier just to drop Seth and think of another SFIV newcomer.
For me it’s Jin vs Ryu, Kazuya vs Sagat, Heihachi vs Bison, Dan vs Paul, and Chun vs Jun (hey that rhymes).
Also, I’ll believe this when I see it. Tekken head guy Harada talked about the possibility of Tekken vs VF a lot more often than this.
Ganryu vs Honda
Jin Kazama vs Ryu
Kazuya vs Akuma
Heihachi vs Bison
Seth vs Mokujin
Kagekiyo/Yoshimitsu vs (insert character) Onimusha
Marshall Law vs Feil Long
Lei Wulong vs Gen
T.Hawk vs Julia Chang
Christie vs Elena
Needs more Yun/Yang.
Lol, so it’s official, then?
Jin has replaced Kazuya as the Ryu of the series in people’s minds…so sad. I remember whn Kaz and Paul were the Ryu and Ken of Tekken…they were even rivals and stuff. Now, look at em. Paul is now a joke character screwing around with bears, Law and Steve (Law is another fallen former bad@$$). Kazuya’s getting punked out by his father and his son every other game.
But, I guess being paired up with Akuma isn’t too shabby…
The real question is why The Simpsons Arcade Game isn’t on my PSN in 2010.
Fixed
I would prefer a Street Fighter style 2D game, because I enjoy Street Fighter far more than Tekken, but I think that would be more of a stretch than making it more like a Tekken game. The Tekken fans would be completely alienated.
Instead, I think a Tekken style game with the non projectile Street Fighter characters added would fit better. I’d rather see picks along the lines of Alex, Abel, Yun/Yang, Karen etc. I don’t think the shotos would really have a place there, the Hadoken/Shoryuken is their trademark and I’d rather not see the characters if their trademarks were removed or “Tekkenized”.
Despite what many people think, I believe Street Fighter can exist without Ryu/Ken. But then you alienate the casuals too…
This whole discussion is silly…
It can be balanced even with fireballs.
Not all SF characters have projectiles and some Tekken characters can have projectiles, e.g. Bryan/Shotgun, Alisa/Rocket, Devil Jin/Laser, Bruce/Chickens. Also, a sidestep manoeuvre would make fireballs a lot less effective, instead, they may become a part of a combo as opposed to being used solely for zoning purposes. Also, the advantage SF characters may have with projectiles will be balanced by the HUGE movelists of Tekken characters as well as their ability to do multi-hit juggles.
Question is, will there be a ‘Jump’ motion as this is vital for SF characters but has been removed from Tekken sine its second instalment…

You can’t do it. It’s not possible. If you put Tekken characters in a SF engine they wouldn’t play anything like they should and players would be turned off, if you put SF characters in Tekken they’ll play nothing like what they do in Street Fighter. It’s just not going to work.
winner.
if the topic turns out to be true, whoever suggested tekken vs sf at the board meeting should have gotten a shoe thrown at their forehead. whoever green lit the project should have been held out of the window suge knight/vanilla ice style.
id rather see sf vs kof.
This is just crazy enough, that I would like to actually see what Namco and Capcom could do with such a thing.
To me, possibly the best way to compromise would be to do more to make a “new” style of fighting game, utilizing some aspects of the individual source material from each series, but not explicitly tied to it either. That way, both sides of the aisle would have to accept the new game for what it is, instead of it being an “extension” of what they may have been expecting.
I mean, making a SF game with Tekken characters, or a Tekken game with SF characters, wouldn’t mean much at this rate. If that’s the best they can do, they might as well just push on, business as usual, with making Tekken 7 and SF5. But a brand new fighting game, that forces both the Tekken and the SF player alike to “learn” a whole new game? That much might actually be interesting. And hell, it’s not like Bandai-Namco and Capcom don’t see the value in making money together already: the Gundam Vs. series is more than adequate proof of that!
CVS1 was a great game.
You honestly thing Virtua Fighter players wouldn’t have a cow if you simplified their game onto the level that Tekken is?
