Rufus Strategy/Combo Thread (because you can't poke forever...)

? Really?

Away to training mode I go!

Yeah, I was just fooling around with your findings, not that I don’t trust you, and randomly doing dive kicks into MP xx MP Tornado on the dudes I was testing on. I never tested it on all of them but I did on Gen and Ryu and it worked on the former and not the latter, despite MP xx HP Tornado not working on its own.

OK. here’s my problem. I was playing againist a scrubby akuma player last night. I got him first round, he got me second round and on third round I couldn’t do anything againist him. He jumped back spamming fireballs at randoms angles. I was consistently jumping over and ducking and ex focusing through them (except when he did EX double fireball I ate the second one). Then as I jump over air balls to get to him he’d throw out the occasional double roundhouse that hits once when I’m jumping at him from evading an air fireball. If I block it, he either does a throw, a sweep, teleport (if he’s backed in a corner) or just jump back and start it all over again. After chasing him down the whole match, I lost the third round with a perfect.

What am i suppose to do with jumpback fireball akuspam? Snake fist and Messiah kick can’t reach him and I couldn’t get my tonardo to nullify his air hado spam.

Edit: Note that this is online so input lag makes it hard to act on timing.

ragequit?

lol.

It’s a love/hate relationship with me and Akuma. What I like to do is roll a lot but you have to make sure you’re not a full screen (or even 4/5th screen) away or you’ll roll into it. Even though it’s a bit reckless I like to do 2 rolls in a row. It’s risky but if you succeed you’re closed in on him and can eat him alive.

NOW, I have a really stupid/basic question. I need to clarify the angles of the dive kicks because I feel like I get too many random results. So if I’m correct, you can only combo your divekicks if you hit around their FEET (then I usually do a cr.mk, HP Torn). HOWEVER, someone said that if you go at their feet it opens you up for reversal (like eating a SRK on wake-up). Is this information correct? And if so, what are my options on wake-up? A 50/50 if he does a wake-up move versus if he goes for a throw/normal? I feel like people are throwing me out of a lot of divekicks and I’m assuming it’s because I’m hitting them too high. Just wanted to check though.

someone pls refresh my memory quickly: what’s the punish for blanka’s blocked rainbow roll (w/not ultra available). just cr.HP? cr.MP stuffs them anyway but just in case.

didn’t you say you could j.rk those on the recovery? can you not do j.rk->snakestrike/divekick?

tht sounds right, I’m a moron. blanka gets me all flustered:sweat:

oh shi-! st.LK > st.MP xx HP Tornado is gdlk against Blanka. couple tht with j.HK to punish ultra and rainbow balls, I’m starting to appreciate why this is an even match. you can deal so much damage so easily

cross-up dive kick is gdlk against balrog, thanks whoever gave me that tip; it confuses him quite a lot. I have a question tho: if you cross-up dive kick him against the left wall and you get pushed back to his right due to the glitch, does he lose his horiz charge?

Hey Diveman, if you’re still hanging around, throw this into the first post. I did some testing with Rufus’ EX Tornado’s Nullification properties.

Originally posted this in the EX Compendium guide, but it’s also (sort of) good to know, even if projectile nullfication is pointless with Rufus’ rushdown style.

Data is data.

Rufus chip data
Ultra - 81
Super - 45
lp, mp, hp messiah - 20
Messiah + lk - 40
Messiah + mk - 45
Messiah + hk - 50
ex messiah - 32
ex messiah + lk - 52
ex messiah + mk - 57
ex messiah + hk - 62
lp tornado - 22

ex tornado - 40
snake strike - 10 per hit

note up close you can get 2 hits of the snake strike on average height characters. 1 hit on smaller characters. 5 hits on sagat.

My post from the matchup thread:

dude, srs, just block and punish with j.HK > lolumadd; the damage is too good to pass up then yr halfway to beating him already AND he’s now terrified to rainbow ball for the rest of the match.

tho if it’s the silly EX controllable version perhaps (judging by the “EX compendium”) you are best focussing it cos they land it ambiguously right on top of your head most times

agreed it’s the best tactic vs. buttslam tho, timing a cr.MP to snuff it seems fiddly esp. with all the different heights of its arcs

But if you don’t have any meter at all, then focus attacking would do more damage, wouldn’t it?

does the focus attack hit count as a counter hit?

good shit.

i nullified two hits last week, and was wondering wtf i’d done differently. to nullify two, you halfto be at the end of one spin right to the next.

and coz’ i got ragequit, and had a perfect no-lag game against some brit from the u.k. the other day. we’ll try casuals some time

nope.
i found that block then j.hk will not always hit. either will focus attacking it. what does seem to always work is focus attacking it but cancel the attack and dash forward THEN j.hk. tried at all angles. so from my testing,

lvl 3 focus attack (misses at certain angles) - free ground combo
FADC (all angles) - free j.hk combo
block then j.hk (misses at certain angles) - free j.hk combo

No.

Edit: whoops, forgot to check for posts before I posted, I just kept the tab open while I tested it. >_>

Double edit: Kururo, did you try changing the direction in which you aimed the focus attack? You can do so simply by delaying it.

yep. there is definitely some angles that after you absorb their attack blanka just lands outside of the range of his focus attack. it might be different for hitting them before they land. but there isnt really a point to that when you can just FADC into a free j.hk combo at all angles.

If you don’t have any meter, then the damage you can do from a j.rk is severely limited (unless there is a move that does more than a snake strikes which could be, I don’t really look at the Rufus boards that often), so you might be better off in that scenario to just do a focus attack and then a ground combo.

just for the rainbow ball

no meter
lvl3 FA (not all angles) -> s.hp xx hp tornado - 352
FADC (all angles) -> j.hk -> hp or mp snake strikes - 170

1 bar
FADC (all angles) -> j.hk -> ex snake strikes - 370
