if you try it, b/c you’re jumping away, only like 1 or 2 hits of messiah kick w/out the extensions will hit
Did we discuss ?
nice tutorial, but he forgot to mention that Hp tornado indeed combes from s.HP by holding the stick where the opp is and its projectile negating abilities too
and if you hit someone with lp snake when the opp is standing (I think it doesnt hit everyone when crouching) , you can do cr.LP and after that one of 2 things:
1-. cancel into EX tornado and ultra if youre in the corner
2-. another cr.lp, then s.lp then s.mp
but nice overall
I didn’t know that about hitting with an LP Snake Strike on a standing opponent! That’s useful, I’ll often hit an opponent on wake-up with one of those if I’m anticipating a cross-up. Also (I’m assuming this works) but wouldn’t cr.LP, cr.LP, s.LP, cr.MK xx EX Tornado (does cr.MK combo into any of the regular tornadoes I can’t remember) be better?
that is good to know. when i think back to all the ryu’s, who’ve tried to s.F+mp me, and instead had me tag them w/ lp snakestrike, well… i missed out on alot of damage potential… lol
LP snake strike is one of Rufus’ best moves, actually, alongside ex messiah.
It defends against crossups.
It defends against ALL throw attempts. (very good against gief and Abel and you can use it instead of teching!)
It beats gief’s Lariat.
It defends against standard jumping attacks.
You can link c.jab from it (which means you can go into ex messiah!)
I use it often and it works. Just be careful to not spam it since it’s not safe (unlike fierce Galactic Tornado!)
One thing I’ve started to do to mix up things a bit is do a dive kick -> c.jab. If I get blocked, I go into fierce Galactic Tornado. It applies pressure differently, is pretty good against a lot of things (I’ve never got thrown out of it, so I guess the first frames have throw invul) and breaks armor. I’ve seen a lot of players who like to FA after a few jabs, expecting something (either a dive kick or something similar).
lp snake is +2 on block and Hp tornado is -1 on block
Yes the problem is that +2 on block only applies if the opponent is forced to block it. LP snake strike will totally whiff against everyone if they’re crouching and doing nothing. Then he can be punished.
ah yeah I didnt think of that one, but if you do 2 cr.lp you wont get a cr.mk after the std. so do this, its works anywhere if you feel like using an Ex meter (does good damage btw)
lp snake, cr.lp, std.lp, cr.mk xx EX tornado
add an ultra at the end if youre in the corner
Acidenema: aah right, silly me. but does it whiff even on crouching gief and sagat?
Ninja edit: since the 80% combo thread was closed, I want to say that, j.RH (2 hits) EX snake, ultra (a bit near corner) works so far against:
shotos (whiff srk I guess)
zangief (he will have to jump at you at some point or else he loses)
fuerte
blanka (blocked ultra = win)
Sagat (omg yeah!!!)
Dictator
Ill do more testing, but so far I couldnt do it against Chun and Boxer
LP snake strike is especially effective against Zangief. MP Snake strike he lariats, you’ll go over the lariat and bypass his invincibility frames and come down and smack him with the strike.
changuillo, you’re spot on, I tested that myself after I’d posted and forgot to update my post
oh shi- about those j.HK > EX Snake Strike > Ultra findings. I’m gunna peace out so many Blankas now.
Problem I find is most Blanka’s never jump =/.
They don’t need to. If you block their Ultra near the corner, you can punish with j.HK > EX Snake Strike > Ultra.
Don’t forget blocked Rainbow Rolls > j.HK combo.
I also like to give the Blanka a throw or two if they don’t like jumping, depending on how often they electric.

AFAIK it still whiffs. The only defense against it is crouching though - part of why I said not to spam it since it’s incredibly unsafe on whiffs.
HP tornado being -1 though isn’t so bad - I’ve never gotten hit out of it from anybody online. Is there anything in the game that will punish 1 frame? So far the only “counter” I’ve gotten from that is walk up throw attempt (which you can lp snake strike, lol)
I have a quick question and I apologize in advance if someone already touched on this. I was just curious what the viability was of doing a LP Snakes on wake-up as a type of pseudo-wake up SRK like move for times when I don’t have meter for EX Messiah and someone is trying to do some wake-up Shenanigans/cross-ups? I’ve been experimenting with HP Snake on wake-up, especially for Giefs that try wake-up/cross-up body splashes and it’s been doing pretty well so far however it is obviously punishable if blocked. I’m wondering if LP Snakes can serve as both a wake-up move and be safe.
Part of me thinks my entire rationale is wrong :-/
if they go for a meaty crossup, you get stuffed, and if they anticipate it and crouch, you get punished.
otherwise, mp and hp are great for the late/sloppy/high crossups. lp gets the job for the lower crossups. your rational has all the right thinkings, good and bad
there are a few other things i want to talk about. tho atm, i can only remember corner glitch. little tidbit of the entire game;s mechanics worth knowing, but most applicable towards rufus(b/c of dive kick).
so basic scenario is: opponent is as close & directly against the corner of the screen as possible. rufus jumps, at the apex of his jump, he’s directly over the opponent, and does a dive kick. different things happen on different sides of the screen:
on the right side- you get a crossup, and rufus’s fat ass magically squeezes to the other side.
on the left side- rufus’s dive kinda slides in front of the opponent, and he lands in front of the opponent.
doing this on a knocked down, or waking up opponent will have you cross up no matter what(provided you do it right)
its late, and my thoughts on applications are dying, but. this is good to know i thinks
Ok, I have a bit of a noob question here. I looked at the Rufus frame data and they didn’t have anything for block stun for his dive kick (the box was empty). Is there a reason why this info isn’t available? What happens to me ALOT is that I’ll have a dive kick blocked and then I’ll go straight for a grab but somehow the other person will always grab me with no tech or anything. I find this a bit odd because I was thinking AT WORST I would just tech THEIR throw by throwing immediately after divekick block but that doesn’t seem to be the case. This happens with more than one character (but I notice it the most with Sagat’s throws). Any help much appreciated.
Does this work: if Ryu/Ken does cr.MK xx Hadoken, you can FADC the fireball and punish with Ultra?
I think it works against Ken, but not ryu because his fireball is 1 frame faster than kens but im not sure, I know that if Ken does cr.mk xx EX hadoken you can EX messiah in the middle (not against ryu because again, his EX hado is faster)
