What am I trying to punish with U2? With Blanka I feel he doesn’t even need to use his ball moves so it might not be worth it. Not sure about Zangief.
Mostly jump-ins and Lariat.
Okay, speaking of Zangief, I find this match-up really hard. He can mix me up if he knocks me down, yet if I knock him down I can barely do anything. His pokes are better too. How do you win this match-up?
zone him, dont let him get close. AA him all day, poke him from far away. Dont get knocked down like EVER. Dont pressure him on wakeup. Just zone him to death
Counterpick with Akuma :wgrin:
Seriously even J.Wong has a very hard time against a good Gief look at his recent matches against Vangief.
i was playing against the balrog computer. it was set the hardest and i cant even beat the computer balrog. so when i wanna try something diff, i go online and play against a human balrog. jeez he was good. i cant do anything. what are the general strat against balrog? any tips?
I generally try to zone him out until I can score a knockdown, then I get aggressive as he’s free on wakeup. If he tries to do a dash punch from a distance just Ex. Messiah. Other then that St.mp should be your poke of choice. It’s definitely in Rog’s favor though, so don’t feel bad you’re losing it. I usually do too.
If hes a turtle balrog, you should be able to win.
If he’s rushdown and its good…well then you’re in trouble.
Turtle Balrogs are focused on charging a lot and doing random dash punches, so its really easy to stay out of dash punch range, and s mp on reaction (or if you’re really brave or hes really dumb you can sweep as well). It also allows them to slowly push them into the corner, which is awesome for us. I do not like ex messiah’ing on reaction just because I prefer to save them for u1 setups, or throw/fake throw setups (walk forward walk back sweep to blow up crouch techs for example) plus it tends to make the opponent think twice about scrubbing out.
The rushdown balrogs are the ones that cause problems, the ones that know that any knockdown on rufus means he is COMPLETELY SAFE to any option on your wakeup if he does a well timed meaty jab. you also cannot push them into the corner like u can with turtle balrogs, and most of the time youre the one fighting for your life trying to get out. Against someone who is constantly in your face, ex messiah is a bad option. You have to block the meaty jab, (and you will eat a LOT of throws once the Balrog can see his jab is being blocked more often than not) but it is a much better option than anything else (crouch techs and reaction techs = jab hit confirm, jump back gets beat and ex messiah can be blocked) The only thing I can suggest would be to try to get the advg early, and to not double dive kick as much (jump back fierce is deadly and so is the jab if you cannot time it right)
The person above me is right tho, its a losing battle, however even the best turtle balrogs make it 5-5. Watch the way PR Rog played against JWong previous to NEC, compared to at NEC. when he was trying to turtle it was rape, and when he rushed that shit down he did a lot better.
So about that s.lk to s.mp frame trap that Ricky Ortiz was using pretty well against that Abel at west coast warzone 3, does it beat out the option select the Abel was using?
Frame trapping with close strong with the right timing will beat your opponent pressing buttons, yeah. You can get the same effect with a delayed st. fierce into fierce GT, but doing that is just going for it. With close strong, you can react to the counterhit and combo a low forward xx EX GT afterwards, or close fierce xx fierce gt if you’re close enough/character specific.
You can punish a whiffed jab straight and stuff turn punch and EX overhead with c.MK xx EX GT. This all works at roughly the same spacing (3/4 screen away). You can also punish a whiffed jab straight with fs.HK juggle into U1. I’m yet to see how useful they are in a match, though. I suck at this match-up.
What frame advantage is Rufus at after a blocked focus attack forward dash and back dash? Or is there a way to calculate frame advantage by looking at focus attack and dash frame data?
lvl 2 focus forward dash is +2.
lvl 1 focus forward dash is -4.
lvl 2 focus back dash is -5.
lvl 1 focus back dash is -11.
Not sure if wiki has the back dash stuff
Thanks guys.
Blanka is my toughest matchup
i liked U2 against blanka but in AE BUT i think U1 is best against blanka now. i honestly think Gief and blanka are his worst matchups. Rufus has to chase blanka IMHO
Huh?!?!?!
Blanka has been in Rufus’ favour since the beginning of time.
just do the bnb with mp instead of hp, hp sometimes misses.
Rainbow balls (the corner getaway) are beaten CLEAN by a well timed s hp AND keep him in the corner
Upballs even on hit can be punished, regular balls u can just stand block walk forward and c hp, which is a trade in your favour damage wise, ultra bar wise and position wise
If hes within sweep range then block low, he really cannot do anything outside of sweep range to hurt you. nothing at all.
You can also safe DK him on wakeup, to beat upballs, and punish with c hp.
Blanka is pretty free. U2 or not
i have great problems against akuma zoning and vortex(it’s reeeeeeealy hard to defend), i need help =|
What do you guys do to counter people that us Focus attack vs Dive kick pressure?
If i dive kick and they do a focus attack i usually block, but this kills my pressure game.
depends how deep/low you hit the dive kick. If you hit low enough where all they can do is really backdash (cause they dont have enough time to release) you can ex messiah or low jab or something. Of course you have to kind of anticipate the focus or have good reaction. It also depends on how quick their focus attack is, someone like fei or akuma is harder than ken or c viper.
