Everything I said about the character is pretty much on point. I bet if you were to poll the community the majority would feel similarly about Rufus if they’re unbiased(aka don’t main Rufus). He isn’t broken by the way. A character with like 5 disadvantageous match ups can’t be broken.
rufus isnt broken, but he kinda breaks all character archtypes.
rushdown character who is almost always safe usually isnt the type to get heavy damage output and above average health. like bison is almost always safe, but he dosent hit very hard at all. and characters with the most health are usually the slower characters, like honda or gief.
i dont know how you could make it right tho without really fucking rufus up as a character. maybe make his stun even lower?
Wanting Galactic Tornado to be unsafe on block is HELLA ridiculous. Its like wanting fireballs to be unsafe on block.
Rufus can only make you block a Tornado in 2 ways. (A) by Tornadoing from a distance. (B) by doing it after a close heavy or middle attack. If Rufus does (A) and you anticipate this correctly, you can be punish him for big damage by just jumping up and coming down with a full combo. If Rufus does (B), you already screwed up by failing to keep a rushdown character out, so its rightfully safe.
I would argue until my face is blue that Ex Snake Strike damage is okay, but SRK thinks its conventional knowledge that “Ex Snake Strike does too much damage”. Well, we’ll see… if Capcom decides that Ex Snake Strike damage shouldn’t be nerfed in Super, then I’m sure its because Capcom is biased and lurrrves Rufus too much as a character, right?
Rufus v Akuma is a 5/5 match up. This much shouldn’t be argued.
I don’t believe he’s easy mode. I think that the statement “We want scrubs to have a chance too” is a but much. But I do agree he needs less health and some damage reduction on Ultra I considering how many set-ups he has. Not much, but some. So I agree he needs some tweaks , but I don’t think he’s easy mode or broken.
I wasn’t saying that Rufus was an easy match for Akuma, and in no way is Akuma an easy match for Rufus. It is even because Rufus has a hell of a time getting in on Akuma, but when he does he is rewarded heavily for it. And how is Akuma going to get j.rh’d if he has the fireball to cover him? Maybe you aren’t doing the air fireballs at the right distance/time? The ways I (and I see other Rufus players) get around air fireballs is either do do his rolling low kick or c.fp which results in a trade. If Rufus gets a j.rh on Akuma it is usually from a mistake by the Akuma.
I don’t think Rufus needs a spammable, completely safe move that goes through projectiles, does mad chip damage, and allows you to continue your offense. I still think with an unsafe galactic tornado Rufus would be a very good character.
I’ve never seen someone try to justify ex snake strike being fine the way it is either. Interesting stuff, but I’m not going to spazz because I can tel you’re passionate about your character and truly believe the move is fine the way it is, and I’ll respect that.
If you don’t think Rufus is clearly the easiest character to play and defines what easy mode is in a fighting game I don’t know what to say lol. He’s the perfect character to teach your girlfriend to ease her into fighting games and really make her feel like she’s getting somewhere pretty quickly.
Wow lots of rufus hate in here. If he was as easy to play as some of you guys think, wouldn’t there be way more rufus players online? He’s bottom 2 right next to dhalsim on the ffa cab.
back in line with the original topic. I would like the following…
Fix dive dick to not whiff certain characters when they stand (Gief/Boxer/etc)
Fix EX.Messiah not fully connecting on certain characters when crouching (or when they do a move that makes them slightly lower then crouching)
Fragrance palm made a bit more useful (it’s very slow, not much range, knocks enemy much too far away). Not asking for it to be overpowered, but just warrant more use
Target combo whiffing on some crouching characters. Can understand if it misses if you do an extra S.LK, but not when you do one
EX.Snake Strike. From my experience, I find people get hit by it clean because they either don’t know the safe setups against Rufus, or make poor jump in decisions. Otherwise it doesn’t get much use. I guess people don’t think the reward Rufus is getting for that mistake is fair, so I don’t see a problem with the nerf.
Ultra setups. I think the number of ultra setups is fine, thats a defining part of Rufus to me, perhaps just tone down the damage of Ultra instead
back in my super scrub days no fireball and no dp meant bad character. im sure that logic is still aplicable here. plus hes fat as fuck. but im sure its the lack of a flaming fist of “get the fuck off me” more than anything that makes people not play him
He’s not popular because he can’t jump back fireball and mash dp.
Rufus shouldn’t even have an antiair (snake strike). Why should a character with that kind of rushdown + health have such a powerful defensive option? At the very least the damage for EX snake strike needs to be toned way down, but honestly he shouldn’t even really have it. I also think his c.strong is a bit quicker than it should be. In addition to that bs he has ex messiah which is probably the best overall reversal. It uses meter but it’s almost always safe and does decent damage.
to the dude who said ex messiah is the best reversal is wrong. dp is first second is ex dp. seriously tho. Its only safe is you don’t do anythihng about it.
cr strong too fast? i feel like you jump in to much if that give you a problem. every character needs a good anti air
im not a rufus main but I play him enough in sf4 to have a valid oppinion IMO lol. I think they should make him less vulenarable on meterless wake up and give him another option to get past fireballs but in return lower his health from 1150 to avg. and make some of his specials do less damage. this way he is a more solid character overall but his offense isnt too godlike. he would be 60% offense/40% defense instead of his regular 70% offense 30% defense.
