RPGs that are worth playing

I remember that battle, vs Miguel it came out of nowhere, and it was the hardest part up to that point by far, as a matter of fact most things that happened after that part was simpler, except that one battle for the masamune I think.

I really liked Chrono Cross. It was such a beautiful game, especially the music and presentation.

Oh yeah and Legend of Dragoon, that game was amazing as shit. I remember I tried to get it when it very first came out too, and it was sold out for like 2 weeks. I liked the battle system with the squares, and the story was good.

imo JRPGs though would benefit alot better if the main story of the games were told a lil more thorough and at a better pacing and not so long and drawn out. This is why I like FF4 the most, because it wasn’t so drawn out, it was at the right speed, so was 6.

Think about it. You ever find yourself just trying to skip by enemies, or running from battles, and skipping over dialogue nonstop cause of all that filler, or you spend forever somewhere with no advancement of any kind with no character development, until hours later at some random point in a town. Alot of these games do this. You play em and then you get close to the end and just give up or give up at some other random point, even if you really like the game, cause everything is so drawn out and the end result isn’t even built up right anymore you just give up playing.

Ppl raised their standards. That’s like saying World War II setting is what makes a FPS.

I guess. It just seems like everything now is dominated by fast action and shooters. Nobody wants to sit around and play a 50+ hour turn based RPG anymore.

It took me two plays to fully understand why Crono, Lucca, and Marle call you a murderer and say the world ended. When I figured it out I felt so stupid. -_-

Man, I forgot about this game! This game was the shit. First game I ever pre-ordered.

Lavitz = Owns yo bitch ass!

Anything from the Shin Megami Tensei series. I’ll warn you though, while these games are some of the best of the genre, some of them are hard and unforgiving. SMT is the only JRPG franchise that actually sticks to it’s roots, and doesn’t try to be something it’s not. They touch on subjects that no other rpgs try to touch on. BTW the music in these games are very unique, it’s no Nobuo Uematsu, but Shoji Meguro has his own distinct style that really sets the tone of these games that have a lot of detail in it’s world, and the atmosphere just flows so well with the music.

Here’s a 14 page article on the series as a whole. http://hg101.classicgaming.gamespy.com/megaten/megaten.htm It’s worth checking out if you actually want to learn about the series.

Also, Soul Hackers is being translated by the same people who fan translated the first Persona 2 game. So look out for that gem in the future.

Chrono Cross is garbage and doesn’t deserve to have the word “Chrono” in the title.

Everyone who actually loves Chrono Cross should just play Baten Kaitos instead, which does most of what Chrono Cross does except better (aside from some atrocious Voice Acting).

Xenogears would have been the best game ever if it wasn’t one of the sloppiest games ever built and if they actually put some thought into its battle system. It had bunch of great ideas, but terrible execution.

I agree. I actually pine for this now. I just want a 50+ turn based home console JRPG that lets me grind. I love grindan and then rolling in with overwhelming force.

This is why I love Disgaea, Phantom Brave, and Makai Kingdom so much. You can grind until you literally die of starvation or dehydration. Not enough people die playing RPGs anymore.

That reminds me. Have any of you guys played(and finished) Eternal Poison? Was it good? I had it but then I sold my PS2 for something so I sold that too.

Never heard of it. Is it a Nippon Ichi game?

You’re missing out, best one in the series gameplay wise. Awesome music, and it closes up the story pretty well. You have to sit through 30mins+ cutscenes though. But if you liked Ep. 1, that probably won’t be a problem.

Awh hell naw, 7 pages not one mention of Panzer Dragoon Saga!

Man… I gotta go buy a rca cable for my DC so I can play SoA again. It’s somewhere in a pile of mess in my basement… lol.

After playing Platinum for the past 2+ weeks, I’m beginning to realize that the Pokemon franchise are the only JRPGs that I’ve ever truly loved.

I can’t believe I forgot about VP. I always thought it was funny how hard mode was easy and easy mode was hard.

Funny thing is, XS 2 was the only one I actually liked. 1 and 3 were rubbish IMO.

All three suck compared to XG though so it’s a moot point.

I’ll probably get shot for saying this, but I liked XS more than XG.

I need something to play for the summer…while I have the time.
