RPGs that are worth playing

In regards to the last remnant. The gameplay is turnbased with no random encounters. It has Kessen/romance of the three kingdoms thing going on as well with morale. One of my gripes is that their is no customization at all for the supporting cast. Only the main hero in the game can get new weapons to purchase from the shop. Story wise it is ok but the game just got boring to me. I just couldn’t play it.

Here is a sum from wiki

Ew, Chrono Cross sucked.

Don’t put it in the same category as Trigger.

What didn’t you like about Chrono Cross? I’m not asking so I can tell you that you should like it, I’m just curious. I’ve never heard of somebody not liking it.

Ah, that game was amazing. I never beat the last boss. I think it was lavos right? That’s pretty epic considering he was the last boss of CT, and all the CT tie in.

Ok, so did anybody play and like Soul Nomad: Rise of the world eaters? I could not get 30 min into it. Pls tell me it is a great game so I can get my $15 worth.

I’ve never even heard of that game. What is it on? PC?

The part in CC when you meat Miguel and Crono, Lucca, and Marle are there. My god that is soooooo good. I forget who the last boss is, I haven’t played the game in like 7 years. I remember it looking like Lavos.

Could it be because you’re not playing Mass Effect and you’re already playing CC?

No one mentioned Chrono Cross cause it sucks. Just play Radiata Stories. It’s what Chrono Cross should have been.

MY bf says that it was mediocre. I watched him play a bit and it seemed to have an interesting battle system, but I dont think he beat it.

I have a question to ask what was the highest amount of total hours you have placed in a RPG? For me it is about 230-240 when I was playing Star Ocean: Till the end of time.

Its for ps2. It’s made the same people that made the Disgea series. Nipon Ichi. It seems like everything that made that series good is exempt from Soul Nomad however. Somebody prove me wrong?

Chrono Trigger is always the first answer to this question.

Holy god. holy god…

Epic game but i had no idea that many hours coul dbe put into it. I think my record is like 150ish on disgea 2 last year. 120hrs in I learned of the lvl. 9999 neko trick though and the game lost all meaning. Plus, I researched how to get robo armor and what it takes to get to the baal fight and I was like fing no way am I doing that much.

I have star ocean second story for ps2. I haven’t played it in 8 months , though I keep on thinking about resuming my game. Making items/armors is fun stuff.

You suck at sarcasm.

I made it to the big plot twist in that game and just lost all interest. Hows the newest Star Ocean?

No, that’s horribly wrong.

The supporting cast has customisation in regards to how to upgrade their equipment in one of 2 ways:

  1. THey will see that the hero has an item they want that the hero is not equipping, and will ask for it. This includes purchased items from the shop.
  2. They will occassionally ask for items when loot drops in the game. This goes to upgrading their equipment.

In addition to that, you can upgrade them to go for a physical focus, a magic focus, or a balanced focus (they will ask for your advice). Furthermore, they will ask to learn new skills if they should or not, and this will in turn dictate what class they are, which will then dictate the kind of actions they are likely to do.

As for me, I like it. The battles are a bit too frequent in terms of critter encounters though (I mean weaklings), however the huge battles are awesome.

There’s also tons of quests to do, tons of characters to find, tons of formations for your unions, etc. If you want gameplay heavy, TLR delivers.

The story is okay, probably the weakest part of the game. It can be abrupt in its presentation of the story at times, which hurts it.

One thing to note is that you can play it however you wish, and by that I mean you can play it like a linear RPG, so you just play the main story segments which probably won’t take too long (average RPG length) or you can do all the sidequests, which lead to other sidequests, which will flesh out characters and the world, and you will be much more powerful and well equipped to handle the more dangerous threats that are present in the sidequest, as well as the “ultimate” final boss should you fulfill the conditions to get him.

EDIT: I don’t like CC. To be fair, I don’t like CT either. CC iirc was waaay too easy overall, so not much motivation to play.

And I found Soul Nomad interesting, more interesting than the other N1 games, mostly due to how your characters were actually a bunch of characters put into formations (this is like the Unions of The Last Remnant). However, I still don’t like it enough to recommend it. Just not that interesting to me. I didn’t like the other N1 games though, except for Prinny Can I Be THe Hero because that game has some imaginative level design.

I think I’ve clocked in about half my life on Star Ocean 2.

The Last Remnant is beastly. Get it for PC though, much better than the 360 version.

And in case nobody mentioned it, Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter. And Xenogears (but I’m sure someone got this, it’s like required playing for RPG fans).

Xenogears isn’t all that great. :\

But Last Remnant and Dragon Quarter ARE.

But for reals, it is.
