Two words: Lightning Thrust. Agreed on the leveling up, though. In the late game, it takes way too long to level up since you get so little EXP that you have to rely on the metal slimes. There was no way I was going to level up to 65 just to get the Dragon Soul ability.
Agreed.
And a number of likable characters.
That’d piss me off too. Oh well. At least Rikku can still look forward to getting rage-fucked by Paine on a nightly basis. She had that before Yuna even showed, though.
Off the top of my head:
- The Witcher: Enhanced Edition
- Vampire the MAsquerade: BLoodlines
- Avernum 5 (and 4, 3, 2, 1, Exile, BLades of Avernum, the Geneforge series, I’ll just play fair and just list the one cause that’s the one I played the most)
- Eschalon: Book 1
- Gothic 2
- Planescape: Torment
- Fallout 2 (and 1)
- Wizardy 8 (and Tale of the Forsaken Land, etc)
- Arx Fatalis
- Mount and Blade
- Superhero League of Hoboken (I’m just putting this here to remind myself to play this, but it’s really fun and unique)
Oh, and stuff others liked but I didn’t:
- Fallout 3
- Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2
- Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2
- Mass Effect
- KOTOR
- Fable…? (this one reminds me of the FFVII “fanbase”)
That’s easily more than 10, especially if I were to count individual games rather than just dumping series’ together.
Also, there’s more obscure stuff. Perihelion, Darklands, Gorki 17, etc.
Also, you said “some” of the main reasons. The actual game would be the other main reason, I imagine, which I can knock quite a chunk of the JRPG genre for.
Also, I have no idea where you got “more detailed storylines” from and then mention world building, which I find WRPGs to be better at . Particularly Witcher and Gothic. Do you mean more linear or cinematic perhaps? I can see either of those. But I really cannot agree to “more detailed storylines” unless we’re picking the cream of the crop (in which case WRPGs should also be given the chance to represent their cream of the crop)
Also, I keep saying also.
EDIT: I forgot, some people are crazy enough to like Oblivion too.
EDIT EDIT: Just a bunch of other stuff I forgot to list like DIABLO 2, Divine Divinity, Temple of Elemental Evil, Nox…like I said, off the top of my head, so whatever I think of first.
Yuna’s response was even better. It was essentially “Yeah I’d rather get some from my boyfriend than go adventuring in skimpy outfits with you motherfuckers, you mad?”
Reminds me of MapleStory. I used to play that game in my down time when I was younger and it first came out. After about level 50 it starts taking twice as long to level up. And yea its a “free” game, but passing up 4x exp by not buying a 2x card was basically asking to hit 4th job after about a year and a half of grinding
I stopped playing but at heart it is a solid MMORPG. Especially if your guild was strong. My guild was one of the best in Broa and its just absolutely awesome taking down the big bosses in half the time it takes other guilds. Hell Zakum takes some guilds 30 people going at it for about 25~30 mins. With a 6 man squad we down it in 15. Good times
I retract my statement then. I was wrong
I really can’t believe how many people in here have failed to say Chrono Cross. FOR SHAME.
You mentioned it in your first post. Why would someone recommend you a game you’re already playing? Also, that game’s got more haters then all the Final Fantasies combined.
What a bitch.
Trigger > Cross
Also why mention a game you’ve already played?
Shenmue 1 and 2 if those are considered RPG’s I guess it’s a adventure RPG or something.
Grandia 2
More than one person has said Mass Effect. So why would my post stop people from posting CC?
Also, who hates CC? I’m pretty sure you can go to hell for that.
Do you really want your thread to get derailed that bad, because Specs will do it for you.
Should I start typing /sarcasm at the end of all my posts so people don’t take them the wrong way?
EDIT: Whats the deal with The Last Remnant? Or Infinite Undiscovery? Are either of those any good?
You seemed honestly surprised the game got hate, and it seemed like a legitimate question. Why would I assume you were being sarcastic?
Because I said you can go to hell for not liking a play station game? Doesn’t seem too serious of a statement.
Ive heard mixed reviews about both, they have both high and low points but my friends have said more low ones than high
I started playing this and it felt samey. Character-wise it felt so been there done that(if you’ve played more than 3 JRPGs before). Then I stopped when the kids showed up.
That’s disappointing to hear. The more and more reviews I read for games like this, the more and more I realize that 90% of the flak they get are from things that make it a JRPG. I guess there just isn’t room in modern gaming for old school rpgs.
