Its a subliminal public service announcement. Having sex in a gas chamber is incredibly dangerous
I cheated on xenogears with a gameshark and I still couldn’t finisht it. Way too long. Game should had been 10 hours. Unexpectedly boring battle system.
I dunno if it’s been named or not…
But Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts:covenant were top tier in my opinion. I havent played “To the New World” yet…
Also, Tales of Symphonia. That game was too damn good.
yeah beatrix’s theme was the shit, one of those “you getting yo ass kicked if not prepared” songs.
Okay, I can understand not liking Xenogears’ story, but talking shit on the music? That’s just…wow. That’s like not liking Chrono Cross’s music (same composer)…it’s just…wrong.
I can explain it to you. Close your eyes, now imagine the Xenogears music playing. Now imagine the cell door opening and Jack Black is coming in to tuck you that night, because that’s how Jack Black deals with all his new bitches. Now can you understand?
Nope, can’t comprehend it. It’s just wrong.
Makes no sense to me, either. If anything, I would’ve thought the soundtrack would’ve been the one thing even people who hated the game could give it credit for (never heard of anyone trashing it before now).
Eh, it’s not horrible, I just don’t find it spectacular either.
I didn’t like anything about Chrono Cross. Even the music.
To quote Septimus Prime in the 24 thread:
That I will agree with. I didn’t like EVERY theme but that composer (whose name escapes me) makes fantastic scores. I still have Id’s theme on a CDR somewhere, and as soon as I find that CDR it’s going straight to the iPod. CC’s Celtic inspirations also make me want to find its soundtrack.
Just to be safe
Spoiler
I kinda wish Id was the “main” personality.
I think the composer was Mitsuda, right?
The full name escapes me at the moment.
Yasunori Mitsuda.
I’d play Xenogears if the first 35 hours I put into it actually pushed the story forward.
The pacing in that game is atrocious.
I went out and got Blue Dragon today, it was only 15 bucks used so if it ends up being terrible I’m not out any money really. I haven’t started it yet because I want to finish up Chrono Trigger. The only thing I hate about the Chrono series story is…
Reptites and their empire.
You have all this stuff about time travel, alternate dimensions, fate, destiny, the destruction of TIME AND SPACE. It just seems sooo god damn lame.
I…agree with you. 100%.
Chrono Cross’ soundtrack is highly overrated.
That’s one of the biggest problems I keep saying, the storytelling and pace of JRPGs is all messed up the longer the game’s are, just because of the design. Yet long ass RPGs like that are what people want, but it ruins the story cause of that.
You have to basically play the entire game of Xenogears, in order to have a recollection of how good the game actually was on the whole. I played and beat it about 10 1/2 years ago, and haven’t had a full runback on it since then. Even though it’s one of my favorites of all time. I just don’t want to really play it ever again. I already know that the pacing and all that is terrible, but my nostalgia of the game pieced together fully is still fond.
A game’s main story with gameplay imo should TOP OUT at in or around 15 hours max, when you don’t skip scenes and dialogue, 20 pushin it. All the added stuff, if you choose to do it should be the lengthy and exploring stuff, that adds to a game. Things never makes sense if the pacing is all messed up, for example you’re playing and a character development is building, but then the game itself forces you on a tangent and all the build up and development of that character is lost, because they might end up being completely out of character for almost as long as the build up itself was. So then when the main story continues, it just doesn’t feel right anymore and it feels like shit is coming out of the blue. Also alot of the key stuff for a story should be there as the story progresses, not something you actually have to go hours out to look for, because when a story throws something in on you it’ll make sense and not come out of left field.
You then lose incentive to continue on because the story is lost, the pace is gone, and then you see the gameplay for alot of these games aren’t enough for you to even keep it going, especially when the gameplay isn’t challenging because your levels get built up so high in the process you can just keep using your strongest shit over and over, because it universally beats everything in it’s way. And then the gameplay gets repetitive and repetitive, and you’re doing it alot because these specific games are getting dragged on. Then don’t let me get started on the poor “AI” of the enemies in some of these games, one of your characters will be getting their HP beat down, but then all of a sudden they’re still standing and the foes start hitting other targets, or how they don’t specifically go after what would be deemed a threat to whatever their weakness is etc(how foes won’t start beating on your “white mage” first and foremost). it’s just random attacks on your party members.
I’m calling it now, FPSRPGs are the future of this genre, this shit is evolving, games like Fallout 3 and Mass Effect are paving the way you’ll see. Doesn’t have to involve “shooting” but you get the idea.
And also, I think it’s pretty cool and sad at the same time that a series like Metal Gear Solid, has a story that far eclipses any conventional JRPG I’ve ever played, and an RPG’s story is supposed to be one of it’s biggest strengths.
I’m not a JRPG hater, but I do know this shit is primitive now, it’s played out. And instead of improving stuff, games are just getting longer and more drawn out. You can tolerate a new Final Fantasy for awhile, because the presentation is through the roof, and the graphics are always at it’s best, and the same with the music and such, but sometimes you’ll get past that and then you might end up quitting the damn game before you finish and move onto something else. I really want to get FF13, but I’m almost seeing myself play it and then quit at some point in it.
Shmup like gradius and ikaruga and shit? I haven’t seen any trailers or anything, but it’s not tactic strategy like the others?
