Roundtable Discussion: Ways in which to expand the SFxT community

k that helps, i’ll look for that.

since this has kind of become a place to get the word out on streams and channels, I’d like to tell people about eccomancer’s channel on youtube. They just started posting videos but they have one of the most solid Poisons I have ever seen. Hope they make more.

Can we get an original post updated or a dedicated thread to listing all the SFxT Youtube Channels? It’s a great resource to all interested and beats trying to dig through the pages of this thread.

I dunno about putting fingercramp up in there… the few things they posted @ week 1 are now horribly out of date and their latest endeavor with SFxT just leaves me with the impression that Chris_G is trolling and trying to make the game look bad. Just my 2 cents.

Do not forget ssfevo.

Maximilian (miles923) has stuff up on youtube. YMMV with regards to quality/skill but he’s got vids on his channel as well.

The main thing I’ve tried to do in my local tournaments is to push the game. AE and Marvel dominate popularity at our tourneys but SFXT and SC5 are starting to boost up and that’s awesome.

Local scene? Would you happen to be from LI, based on your avatar? Id join if there was a scene there.

Have updated with those suggestions (had them but missed them in my draft). FC is terrible you’re right - unsubbed.

I have an SFxT stream that’s up once a week or so. Crimsonchild on twitch.

Yes, I am from LI. I play in tournaments at Play-n-Trade in Huntington. We have our monthly F.I.G.H.T. tourney (usually the second Wed. of the month) and casuals every Wednesday. We have a steady group that’s starting to grow. There’s a wide range of skill levels there (I’m scrubby) but we have an awesome time and the folks who play are really great people…it’s a fun night!!!

If you’re interested, there’s also casuals every Tuesday and Thursday night at FNC, a comic book store in West Islip. A lot of the high-skill players go there (LI Joe, Marvisto, Moons, TA Predator) and they stream every Thursday on twitch.tv/deadly_bison.

I think the game could see somewhat of a resurgence, but local places don’t seem to promote it. At next level for example, they WILL run a SFxT bracket if people sign up!..problem is that nobody knows that! Also the fact that when next level was running SFxT (before it died) they were running a “enter as a team or solo” option which in my opinion is how the game should be played competitively. Some people like playing this game with a friend, others like being in control the whole time. The beauty of that option was it was the best of both worlds! It’s not like playing as a team or solo has an advantage over the other so I really feel that we should push the “enter as a team or solo” option at ALL SFxT tourneys. Does anyone else agree, or am I alone here?

Here’s one issue that could really derail the game. The top players despise the game. The game is good don’t get me wrong but the nyc boys hate it. And because these top players have a “fanbase” these lemmings will listen to their word like it’s the best advise possible. IMO i saw a lot of people who wanted to play sfxt at the capcom free tourney this past weekend. But this is how it should be for locals and for other big tournies. Sfxt players need to come out. IF you really want to keep the game alive you need to be active not only from your home but outside of it. The next big event for sfxt is summer jam. There needs to be at least 150+ ppl doing it. And we need high level players to come out like tatsu and show off the game.

Summer jam? Is that in nyc too?

Summer Jam is in Philly. It takes place Aug 25-26th.

I agree we need a better turnout at majors, but I still think we need a strong showing at locals. Regardless of if they play the game or not people will enter at a major just because they are there. A huge step forward would be, in my opinion, getting SFxT to be run at Big Two.

Well this has probably been said a million times but I wanna chip in lol.

But anyways, I think I’d be best to try and create more comprehensive guides for the ‘underused characters’ especially the Tekken side of the cast. All these months in and barely any of the Tekken characters are used while very few of the Street fighter characters are used (frequently). It can get pretty discouraging and boring to play a game where people tend to hug to the more well known characters (more-so online than at tournaments). While I am aware that tournament support is highly important it is also important to see that more people play more characters. More characters means more tech; more tech makes the game more interesting. People learn tech and either use it online/ use it at a tournament/ make a video online.

People get more interested in a game when they see variety and that the game has deep, innovative system. As it stands, many people complain that SFXT is too simple. But that’s just what I see hear.

Check out my mini guides for Bob, Nina, Poison, and Paul and tell me what you think! I plan to write them for all the characters eventually, probably strip the in-character gimmick.

I use all Tekken character, and not the popular ones either. while this is mostly because the 3 Street Fighter characters i want to play as aren’t in the game (Rose, Ingrid and Oni). That being said, I doubt I’ll ever give up Asuka (who reminds me of Ingrid actually) now. I’m working on content for her and Bryan, but it’s coming along slowly, mostly due to the lack of time (schools about to start again) and my lack of video editing skills.

Even with that, all my sets are up on my youtube, i think i have around 50 matches total up there now. All of them having me using Asuka using verious different partners, I think the group is Hwoarang, Law, Alisa and Bryan, with Bryan being my main character to go with Asuka since he came out

I certainly will.

I wanted those characters too. Video guides are nice but having written guides are also really helpful. Theoretically you could just make a written guide and make videos showing specific setups and combos.

I have the written guide up on Rawtag, the block punish guides for Asuka, but i want to get the video done before i go to the next one. Really need someone who knows how to do it better than me to help. 100 minutes of footage is a lot. I may well just drop the video thing for now, but we’ll see
